Anyone else? I just don’t get their popularity.

A dressing gown, or any other hooded blanket will do the job of keeping you warm. Costs a lot less too.

Am I missing something here?

Yanbu, I got DD one but he much prefers his onesie, he says when he sits down in the oodie his legs feel cold on the chair.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 17/11/2022 12:12

I have a fake Oodie aka massive fleece lined sweatshirts with a big pocket. It's ugly (although not shiny) and I wear it while working so I can keep the heating low.

I can walk around in it safely, unlike a blanket. I can keep stuff in the pockets. I can go and make a cup of tea very easily and the sleeves don't get in the way as suggested by a pp. It has a hood, unlike my dressing gown. It feels fine over clothes, unlike my dressing gown. When I'm sitting down it goes over my knees like a lovely warm tent.

We have the real OODIE and they are amazing. We have had them a couple of years

They wash really well and remain soft and snuggly

The elasticated cuffs keep your wrists warm and do not flap around

They only cost £35 each (on offer) but we don't need the heating on so our gas bill is still low

They are not difficult to move around in at all and it doesn't matter how big or small you are - our DS is 6' and our DIL is 5' and we got them both one. They both love them

They have a huge "kangaroo type" pocket in the front for your iPad or phone to carry around

Seriously find someone who has a real OODIE and ask to borrow it and you will realise why they are amazing 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

stuntbubbles · 17/11/2022 12:23

They’re so, so hideous. Silk thermals under proper clothes, all the way.

Dreamsoffreedomjoyandpeace · 17/11/2022 12:25

They’re going to destroy a lot of marriages….who wouldn’t immediately get the ick seeing their other half looking so hideous?!

I like a dressing down with a belt….couldn’t be doing with something flapping around.

Agreed. They look like Homer Simpson's moo moo.

The idea of people sitting around at home in these things makes me feel I don't understand the world at all.

Bluevases · 17/11/2022 12:32

I have bought an Oodie brand one. I am a mature student, so spend a lot of time studying in a cold, north facing room. The Oodie is really good at being as comfortable to wear, as it is warm. I reckon I'll keep the heating off an additional 2 months if I keep wearing it. It looks terrible but my dog doesn't care!

Bronzeisthecolour · 17/11/2022 12:32

I don't get it either. My dd hates her and Apparently they're very last year!!

We shall be warmed by our elegance.

AriettyHomily · 17/11/2022 12:34

I hate dressing gowns, bought a primark cheapie version. It is very comfy but it way to warm to wear it yet.

Maybe you need to widen your understanding of what people need to do in their homes and how they might best meet those needs? Silk layers have their place, but on occasion, so do man-made fibres.

emptythelitterbox · 17/11/2022 12:44

It's a sensory thing.

The ultra soft fabric
The hood to cover my eyes.

TomTraubertsBlues · 17/11/2022 12:44

Same here, although each to their own! The world would be dull if we were all the same.

I am obviously very old fashioned as I don't tend to wear things during the day at home that I wouldn't be prepared to walk down the street in.

For warmth, I've been wearing thermal base layers, big woollen jumpers, and warm socks etc. They have the advantage that I can also wear them to the shops, so are more multi-purpose than an oodie would be.

Those who wear them - do you also wear them when you have visitors? Do you have to get changed every time you leave the house?

TomTraubertsBlues · 17/11/2022 12:46

I was intending to quote ToastAndJames

Shitfather · 17/11/2022 12:47

My cheapo Primark one has been my Best Buy of the year. It’s ugly as fuck, yes, but it’s indoor wear only. I can’t imagine I’ll switch on my heating as I’m sweating in it (also peri-menopausal, which is a blessing, I suppose).

TomTraubertsBlues · 17/11/2022 12:48

Yeah, I'd get the ick if DH wore one.

AffIt · 17/11/2022 12:49

I tried my cousin's on and felt like I was wearing a couch.

Not a fan.

Exactly this. Love my Dunelm "tent". If I wore my dressing gown while WFH it would only be a matter of time before I never got out of my PJ's !

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 17/11/2022 12:55

DH wearing something I didn't like wouldn't give me the ick because I'm not that shallow.

I adore my oodie. Didn't think I would but it has replaced my dressing gown for snuggling on the sofa. I like that I can tuck my legs up inside it and be completely covered. Sometimes I even add a hot water bottle.

PartyLikeItIs1999 · 17/11/2022 12:59

It keeps me from turning on the heat while working from home over winter. No one sees me in it except my cleaner and the postie and I don't think they care. 🤷🏻‍♀️

RichardMarxisinnocent · 17/11/2022 13:00

I've just looked at photos on the Oodie website. All the ones I saw only come down to the knees, how do you keep the lower part of your legs and feet warm? Or do you have to tuck your legs under you all the time? I tend to stretch my legs out on a footstool, so would need a separate blanket to cover them in addition to the Oodie.

Wannabegreenfingers · 17/11/2022 13:03

Super comfy and warm. No annoying belt.

I don't normally buy into brands, but I've had cheap and Oodies and the Oodie wins hands down

JustFree · 17/11/2022 13:06

😁

CJsGoldfish · 17/11/2022 13:08

I love mine. There is no comparison and I've tried a few.
Never, ever been cold in it. It's soft and fluffy and so so comfortable.

I'm a scruncher so sit balled up. If you're a stretcher they probably aren't ideal. I do tend to wear slipper socks for when my feet have to leave the protective oodie fortress
