Anyone else? I just don’t get their popularity.

A dressing gown, or any other hooded blanket will do the job of keeping you warm. Costs a lot less too.

Am I missing something here?

They’re going to destroy a lot of marriages….who wouldn’t immediately get the ick seeing their other half looking so hideous?!

I like a dressing down with a belt….couldn’t be doing with something flapping around.

Haha. That's a whole other thread about what keeps your marriage alive.

Hugasauras · 17/11/2022 18:34

Ooh I have that avocado one someone linked above as an example of how ridiculous they look Grin Bloody love it.

And all I can say is that if you would get the ick from your husband or partner wearing one then your relationship is pretty shite. My husband has seen my intestines during a c section. An oodie is the least of his worries (plus he has one too!).

And I don't care how I look in my own house. I care about being warm and comfy so I don't really want to ponce about in silk thermals whatever those are. I want a big cosy blanket that I can wear so there Biscuit

Underanothersky · 17/11/2022 18:14

How very dare someone wear something i will never see them in to keep themselves warm!

😂
quite!

Is it an age thing?
Are the people objecting over a certain age?

Soproudoflionesses · 17/11/2022 19:08

Also got a cheap Primark one. I prefer it to a dressing gown, never comes undone and l prefer it to a onesie as l don't get cold when l go to the loo. Not sure l would pay more than £20 for one

Chooksnroses · 17/11/2022 19:19

I bought (real) Oodies for my husband and me...and haven't put the heating on yet!

PinkSyCo · 17/11/2022 19:45

I got a cheaper version of the oodie for Christmas a couple of years ago and have worn only a handful on f times because it is just so unbelievably hot! Would be great for someone who really feels the cold though, but I can’t see the point of spending £100 for one when you can get decent versions so much cheaper.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 17/11/2022 19:47

They’re hideous but I want one!

Fairislefandango · 17/11/2022 19:56

Hmm Another one of these 'I don't get X' threads, where what people usually mean is actually 'I don't like X, so I judge other people for liking it'.

What is there to get?! It's a very comfortable, warm thing. People like that. Comparing an Oodie with a duvet is stupid. You can't walk around or do stuff with your hands etc if you're wrapped in a duvet! Also why does it matted what it looks like when you're just hanging around at home?

I don't think I'm unique in this - not dressing yourself can be an indicator for depression. (I'm not saying Oody wearers are depressed, just that plenty of people feel better when they are properly dressed.)

But surely it's not a sign of being depressed unless you slob around in loungewear or nightwear all the time. Actively choosing to wear comfy stuff at particular times, (e.g. when you've bern out at work all day and your house is chilly) is not failing to dress yourself.

hiredandsqueak · 17/11/2022 20:00

I wouldn't pay full price or wear one myself but bought two from 5pounds stuff and was lucky enough to get two Oodies one in packaging with tags and the other with half the tag cut off for £13 each. Ds and dd will be delighted with them.

DornChorus · 17/11/2022 20:02

I think with this and with the air fryers it's kind of a case of people wanting to do something positive rather than something negative. But doing something positive involves spending money, so it's kind of a false sense of security in a way.

But, whatever gets you through this godawful time.

fruktsoda · 17/11/2022 20:03

After reading people praising them to the skies on MN, I treated myself to a cheap version in a recent sale. I haven't had that many chances to use it, yet, but the time or two I have, I was impressed. Very soft and comfortable, and much warmer than my usual non-hooded fleece robe. Feels nicer to wear during the day than my fleece robe, which I associate with getting ready to sleep or being not quite awake in the morning.

PaperMonster · 17/11/2022 20:05

Love my Oodie - far better than a dressing gown! Much toastier!

SherbetDips · 17/11/2022 20:11

I felt like you, until I was bought one as a gift. And it’s so much more than a dressing gown. Keeps you so warm less heating etc

Fairislefandango · 17/11/2022 21:05

I don't think people are necessarily buying Oodies because they are having a godawful time ir to do do something positive. It's just a purchase. They are just a relatively new product that people like and that is popular atm.

phishy · 17/11/2022 21:08

YANBU, they seem hot and impractical to me. I don’t like they are so high necked.

And you can’t do housework in them because they look so bulky and hot, so you’s be forever taking it off and on.

paintitallover · 17/11/2022 22:23

We bought some from Amazon. £13-£17, depending on colour. And day of the week bought, I found out by accident. Very warm, and if warmer is needed we can wear long sleeve t shirts underneath. Although they seem fine home, and we're had some cold days.

allboysherebutme · 17/11/2022 22:25

They do love hideous, someone brought me one, I'd have never brought it myself, but I have to say they're extremely warm and cozy, saves on the heating, which is only a good thing nowadays. X

PeeJayDay · 17/11/2022 22:29

"I hate them. I prefer long woolly dresses and thick leggings for staying warm inside without the heating on. If it's really cold, I'll wear a thermal top, cotton leggings, woolly dress and long cardigan with fleecy slippers."

That sounds so uncomfortable though. Restrictive

PeeJayDay · 17/11/2022 22:33

"YANBU, they seem hot and impractical to me. I don’t like they are so high necked."

A proper oodie has loads of room at the neck. Mine sits nowhere near tbh

TruestRepairman · 17/11/2022 22:58

BamBamBilla · 17/11/2022 11:41

I don't see the attraction either. They look big bulky and cumbersome so I would imagine you'd need to take it off if you wanted to move around in the home, big sleeves getting in the way when making a cup of tea or cooking dinner.

I'd rather wear long johns and thermal vests under a close knit jumper so I could actually move around. If I wanted that snuggly feeling just sitting still like watching tv, I'd put a blanket over my legs.

I succumbed to the hype and bought one and you are right on every point.

It's huge and bulky and I feel like I'm wrestling myself in and out of the thing. I feel uncomfortably big, like it's a fat suit. I don't care about looking amazing all the time, and I love comfort clothes, but this is beyond.

And it is so warm, too warm for a UK winter. There are maybe a handful of days in a typical winter where I can see it getting cold enough to wear. And that's coming from someone who hates the central heating and only ever put it on occasionally to keep damp at bay.

I much prefer normal woollens or my fleece dressing gown.

TheLostNights · 17/11/2022 23:03

Like mine but been too mild to wear it of late, always end up taking it off as too warm. Weather finally seems to be turning though so sure I will be wearing it more.

stuntbubbles · 17/11/2022 16:47

These are not people who cook. Very much a “bag of Doritos dinner” outfit:

Well excuse you! I made Cajun style rice and salmon with Parmesan green beans for dinner tonight AND did it while wearing my blag Oodie!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 17/11/2022 23:41

My local qd store does a brand called toastie. I have no idea whether they are as good as oodies but I quietly roast in my hoodie, under my blanket. If I was really desperate I can get a duvet set and sheets.

Member869894 · 17/11/2022 23:52

I have got a cheap version from primark -a large mansize one - and I love it. I work from home and haven't felt the need to put the heating on yet

LikeTearsInRain · 18/11/2022 00:32

Have some respect OP

Oodies and their knock offs are keeping millions up and down the country warm without turning on their extortionate heating. They are so thick, fluffy and warm and are comfortable and designed for wearing around the house not just for when you’re out the shower like a dressing gown. They have proper sleeves so you can keep all parts of your arms warm whilst doing any activity unlike a hooded blanket where you have to stick them out the sides.
