To think Scotland should become independent?

As life continues to get worse in the UK, it is time for Scotland to go independent. We need to build a forward-looking country that invests in its future, rather than the backward-looking country the UK has become that prioritises the rich. It is time for Scotland to separate from the UK and become that country.

Laughing, I wish I was Nicola.
We have only lived in Scotland since the summer. I am so glad to be in Scotland rather than England. I do not think most Scottish people realise how bad things are in large parts of England now.

Then start an online position for Scotland to have the right to vote (AGAIN) to leave the UK @antelopevalley if you're THAT keen to leave. I'll sign it! And I am sure most other people in England will sign it too.

caringcarer · 17/11/2022 10:02

I live in England and wish I could vote to unload Scotland to be independent. It is a drain on the rest of our UK resources. The UK gives it a higher funding formula than England, N.I. or Wales. It is simply unfair.

Bossa09 · 17/11/2022 10:04

I was big on it first time around although naive. Don’t think I could bring myself to vote no though. Admittedly I’m no where near as tuned into things now as I was then (manifestos and debates). However, part of me feels it’s certainly not the right time after all the uncertainty of brexit, cost of living crisis, etc. People don’t want to make life any more difficult for themselves. And let’s be honest it’s not going to be all rosey at the other side.

Europe needs more unity, not less. Particularly now that Putin’s gone insane.

Caledonia, the Vacomagi, Essex, Wessex, Kent etc - Britain used to be nothing but lots of powerless tribes constantly arguing with each other. They were highly vulnerable to invasion. The unity of the United Kingdom makes us all safer and stronger.

Britain’s exit from the EU was a Putin plot that took decades to succeed and that has massively weakened both the EU and Britain. Right now in Russia there are government officials whose entire job it is to blog on Twitter trying to create division in the West. This isn’t paranoia, news organisations like The Atlantic have exposed many of the Russian Twitter accounts.

Help Putin create division and weakness in the UK if you like, but you’re a fool if you do.

Madamecastafiore · 17/11/2022 10:06

You need to start a campaign for English independence.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 10:06

I agree to leave the EU has massively weakened the UK.
An independent Scotland could rejoin the EU.

I see this a lot. Not sure why it’s the case

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 10:08

Calling me Nicola is just childish.

Would this mean that Scotland would fund itself? If so then yes please.

JackTorrance · 17/11/2022 10:09

Please no. The SNP are shit enough as a super-council.

Much of north of England gets their water from Scotland. UK benefits from Scottish oil fields and tax on whisky.

Also tourism.

Good luck England without all that.

Beginningless · 17/11/2022 10:10

I used to be incredibly pro yes and still am in many ways but I could never vote for independence with this government and what it’s doing to women. If an administration with sense took over I’d be all for it but it’s too risky now.

If the EU will have them.

Dontaskdontget · 17/11/2022 10:13

No it couldn’t. The consent of all EU countries is required to admit a new member, and other countries don’t want to encourage separatism within their own borders. Spain for example would never agree to Scotland joining the EU because that would encourage Catalonia etc to separate. Even they all agreed it still takes forever, look how long Turkey has been waiting.

I’m fascinated by the fact that you only moved to Scotland a few months ago and think you have the right to lobby to destroy its relationship with the rest of the UK.

Mrsjayy · 17/11/2022 10:14

Give it a rest 🙄

That is not true.
