To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

Shower and hair wash every morning. I wouldn't feel right otherwise.

What about when you're menstruating?

Doesn't bear thinking about does it? Some people must smell like a wheelie bin in mid summer, with temps at 96F, that hasn't been emptied for 2 months coz there's a bin strike. Imagine the stench. OMFG! Confused

PurpleButterflyWings · 14/11/2022 23:21

I don't understand the utter batshittery of ANYONE who washes their tits, arse, and bits with soap and a flannel, at the sink. Having a shower is FAR quicker, washes you all over, every part of your body, and you can easily and quickly wash your hair too. Who the fuck washes their body at the sink with a flannel and soap? It's not the 1940s! Confused

Dreamingcats · 14/11/2022 23:21

I shower most days and sink wash on the others.
I only wet /wash my hair once a week.
A non-hairwash shower is on a timer and takes literally 4 minutes. Not a big sleep sacrifice. However, I do not think showering every day is essential. I just like it more than sink washes.

No worries. Thanks for apologising, it’s very gracious of you.

Also, I now know what a wash is. So, win win. 😊

@IMissVino

Now you know what it is you could call it a Whore's Bath if you want, a rather glorious term for a strip wash..

I do. It saves a lot of water so is environmentally friendly as well as cheaper if you have a water meter.

SeenYourArse · 14/11/2022 23:23

People who don’t shower often enough ALWAYS smell just because you are used to your smell doesn't meant other people can’t smell you OP! If you aren’t having a quick shower every day YOU WILL SMELL you lazy sod. Imagine being an adult and admitting that you don’t shower in the morning because you’re too lazy to get out of bed 🙈 embarrassing. I shower myself every single morning without fail and my two boys every evening before bed,

If you think people who are simply disagreeing with your viewpoint are 'aggressive' maybe you need to hide the thread dear. Flowers

Totally agree - the hassle of it!

Spectre8 · 14/11/2022 23:24

I shower daily as I enjoy showering and find it relaxing. I rarely feel unclean before I shower, I doubt if I skipped one or two days I'd smell. The only time I feel its absolutely necessary to shower daily is if I'm on my period.

A couple of my friends who are late 20s don't shower everyday, one just because she doesn't see the point, the other because she has skin problems and her dermatologist told her to only shower every 2-3 days. Neither of them smell

Thank you for this refreshingly sensible post amidst a sea of dramatic nonsense 🙂

I think because they are skint? It's an old fashioned thing, don't have to turn the water on - just boil a kettle wash your fanjo - a Whore's Bath as I was just saying to someone else. I half think it's worth doing just so you can say you had one..

Because, as per previous posts, it's not necessarily about time but about the economical use of water and heating.

No wonder we have pandemics.

Don't be so absurd.

Also for those with disabilities for whom showers or baths are too difficult or cannot be managed alone/safely.

Knowing how to keep oneself properly clean without the luxury of a shower is pretty important, as this thread shows.

BabyOnBoard90 · 14/11/2022 23:27

HeraldicBlazoning · 14/11/2022 23:09

People not showering does not cause pandemics, don't be so ridiculous.

I both agree and disagree with you OP. There isn't any need to shower every day, daily baths/showers are still a fairly new idea in the history of humankind, and there are lots of other ways of staying clean and ensuring you do not smell other than taking a shower. If you are clean, the way you are getting clean doesn't matter, does it?

On the other hand though, it's really not a massive drama to jump in the shower every morning. It's 5 minutes.

At no point did I say it causes pandemic.

Poor hygiene facilitates transmission though. Which is common sense.

HollaHolla · 14/11/2022 23:29

Shower every day. Sometimes twice, if playing sport/going swimming. Wash hair 2-3 days a week - it’s very curly and dry, and there’s a whole palaver with conditioning, oil, etc.

A close friend only showers every 2-3 days. She does smell a bit…. Sour. Like slightly off milk. 🤢 She claims not to need to shower, even though people have commented.

I’d say that there have been some very odd days when I’ve been tired/working at home/not stinky, where I haven’t showered. Still feel a bit weird - and wouldn’t go out without a scrub. As long as I am not washing my hair, I’m in and out in 2-3 mins.

bitachey · 14/11/2022 23:30

I think it’s a bit gross to not wash every day. I don’t bother washing my hair, shaving my legs exfoliating blah blah every day. Very quick shower, deodorant and quick body lotion. Takes 5 mins total. Then every few days do the more beautifying bits. Hair is very other day usually. So basically yes YABU.

PeloFondo · 14/11/2022 23:30

MrsClaypole · 14/11/2022 23:10

These threads baffle me. It's not about being sweaty it's about washing your arse and fandango, I cannot believe anyone does not need to do that at least once a day. And if you don't shower or bathe then how how are you doing it, with a stinking flannel? 🤮

See that's really offensive. I hope you're never in a position where you can't shower or bath because it happens. I couldn't shower after an operation for 10 days so had to sink wash
I've washed people that have been restricted to bed for a decade. They didn't smell
Why would a flannel be stinking? You use a clean one Confused
Some people cannot shower or bath and so have to wash, it doesn't mean they're dirty
And now someone will say oh well I didn't mean people with disabilities...

Mamai90 · 14/11/2022 23:30

I think it depends from person to person. I sweat very little and never smell. Some people need to shower daily, I do anyway because it would take almost as long to wash my face outside of the shower. But I could definitely go a few days without and wouldn't smell.

I give my daughter a daily bath because she's a toddler and gets dirty quickly. She has sometimes been bathed twice in a day!

PatientZorro · 14/11/2022 23:31

@PurpleButterflyWings - have a look at the post immediately above yours at 23:23…hardly friendly and harmonious is it? Very strange that some get quite so het up over this. If people don’t smell and find other ways to wash in between, why does it wind you up so much?

I find it quite amazing that you can’t think of ANY reason why people might want to reduce water or power use and cut down on pollutants. Can you really not see any incentive to do this if you can find alternatives (eg washing bits in sink or bidet in between showers?). It’s really quite depressing that posters would sneer at people who are trying to do this, both from an environmental perspective and because it’s all a bit mean girls really.

Faultymain5 · 14/11/2022 23:32

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 22:25

No I am not neuro divergent! I just wasn’t raised up with this habit. I don’t have an oily scalp and I am never sweaty

God this is so disgusting. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. Unless you have a condition like a certain prince, you sweat daily.

at least say you wash your armpits and nether regions. Please.
