To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

I don’t smell, very rarely I am sweaty … Do people shower every morning because they wake up smelly and are sweaty?

Many Brits and Americans over-do showering. It’s a relatively recent thing (last 2, maybe 3 decades). I shower if I’ve worked out or have been sweaty (obviously more in hot weather), but I don’t shower every day and no, I don’t smell or contribute to pandemics (as weirdly mentioned by one poster)! Excessive washing removes natural oils from the skin, leaving it more vulnerable to irritation and even dermatitis in some.

Greenballoons · 14/11/2022 23:12

Firstly I changed name for this thread as I knew most people would say they shower daily and I didn’t want to expose who I am.

Secondly, someone said that wash is to wash your bottom in the sink? How are you doing that? I get the armpits and face but the bottom?

Thirdly, those of you that shower in the morning do you also shower in the evenings? I mean you get home and you are probably at the dirtiest state you could be in your day. Wouldn’t it be more sensible to have a shower then rather than in the morning? If I simplify it and I just think of my hands I would wash them when I come back from work rather than washing them when I wake up in the morning as they are not dirty in the morning after my sleep!

I shower every morning without fail. I wouldn't feel set for the day if I didn't and I would definitely have a whiff about me.

I normally shower in the evening too. If I really can't be bothered, I don't. But I do generally shower in the evening too as it helps me relax. It makes me feel clean and refreshed.

If you shower every three days, surely you are starting to smell at this point? Maybe you can't smell it but others may be able to.

Exactly this. ^ If you don't shower for 3 days - or a WEEK as the OP claims, you are deluded if you think you don't stink of B.O. and fuck knows what else! Confused

LifeIsHardAlways · 14/11/2022 23:12

I shower pretty much everyday, in the summer it’s twice a day. My son is bathed every night, would be gross not to tbh!

Glitteratitar · 14/11/2022 23:13

I know someone who only showers and washes hair once a week. She legitimately does not smell. I don’t know if she does a sink wash throughout the week (didn’t know that was a thing until this thread!). So it is possible.

So I think it depends on your body. I need to shower everyday or I legitimately smell. But knowing someone who can get away with once a week does suggest that it’s not a definite.

Rosebel · 14/11/2022 23:13

I shower in the evening in the week and every morning on the weekend. I only wash my hair about 3 times a week though. Even with hair washing it only takes 15 minutes. DH usually showers 6/7 days a week.
Older two DCs shower every other day, unless they have been playing sport and then it's every day. DS has a bath daily as part of his bedtime routine.
But as long as you don't smell you can shower as much or as litte as you want

Good for you.

You clearly have issues.

Also - I hate showering. Hate it. But I still do it daily.

I hate getting out. I hate getting dried, moisturising, combing hair out etc. such a faff.. but I do it because I worse feel and look horrific if I didn't.

It's really a chore. I try to buy nice soap and shampoo to make it more luxurious, but it just bores me. 💤

Exactly how I feel. Takes too long. Actual shower is quick... 4 or 5 mins. But the getting dry, putting on body lotion (dry skin issues), waiting for deodorant to dry, combing knots out of wet hair, then actual blow drying hair takes me around 40 mins in total. Boring as fuck.

Then there's cleaning the shower cubicle so it dries nice and shiny and doesn't go mouldy.

Coffeepot72 · 14/11/2022 23:14

I shower/wash hair every morning. I look and feel a bit manky if not

So you don't shower daily and you don't understand how someone can wash their bottom at the sink - so you really are going up to a week without washing your arse?!?

(To wash your bottom at the sink, you wet a facecloth, use it to wet your bottom, use soap as needed and then rinse with the cloth.)

So do you.

Oh do give over. Hmm

You doubt it?

I know two people who are having to choose how much water they can heat daily, as it happens. One of whom I assist financially when I can. I've seen their bills and budget, they're not screwing up their finances.

Yes, it's unimaginable for many. Doesn't mean it's not reality for some.

ColeensBoot · 14/11/2022 22:14

Grim. So that explains why so many people stink on public transport.

Yep!

PurpleButterflyWings · 14/11/2022 23:15

So do you.

No issues at all.

OnlyFannys · 14/11/2022 23:16

Pre pandemic I showered every day s I worked in an office. Now I wfh I do tend to go a few days without a shower as I live alone and im not exactly getting sweaty sat at desk (not that there is anyone to smell.me if I did). If I'm going anywhere or seeing anyone I will wash obviously

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/11/2022 23:16

I'd say washing pits, bits and feet every other day is an absolute minimum for adults. Obviously you don't need to wash your hair that often if it doesn't need it, neither would you need to soap every inch of your body every time if you aren't very sweaty and it isn't hot.

Once a week is pushing it Way Too Far. It takes a few minutes to wash your bits in the shower. You could strip wash if you wanted, but a shower is honestly quicker and better for washing any whiff off.

All the body scrubbing and shaving you are describing isn't necessary at all, and certainly has nothing to do with a basic daily/bi-daily wash.

DuchessDandelion · 14/11/2022 23:17

@Greenballoons you use a flannel to wash at a sink. Fill it with warm/hot water. Dip flannel. Wet body area. Dip flannel and lather it with soap. Wash body area with soapy flannel. Rinse flannel. Rinse soapy body area. Then you're done. Use separate flannels for face and bottom.

Same for bed baths etc.

Caiti19 · 14/11/2022 23:18

I do because I really do need to. I could go days in my 20s and even some of 30s feeling fresh as a daisy. I started sweating after having first child - coincidence or something hormonal - who knows. I don't sweat profusely but I do sweat now where I never did my whole life prior. It's time consuming and annoys me, but hey ho. This is not a one-size-fits-all thing - there are people who can go 3 days and smell fresher than someone else after 12 hours. Just depends on your biology.

These threads baffle me. It's not about being sweaty it's about washing your arse and fandango, I cannot believe anyone does not need to do that at least once a day. And if you don't shower or bathe then how how are you doing it, with a stinking flannel? 🤮

Bidet! Your arse and fanjo will be sparkly clean, plus the jets of water are most invigorating (although do pay attention to temperature control, nobody likes a scalded undercarriage).

What about when you're menstruating?

PickAChew · 14/11/2022 23:19

I ever used to shower every day but, since menopause, I feel uncomfortable if I don't. I wash my hair EOD, though (thick and wavy but my scalp gets crusty and smelly very quickly). Non hair wash days, I tie it up or wear a shower cap.

No worries. Thanks for apologising, it’s very gracious of you.

Also, I now know what a wash is. So, win win. 😊

And thank you for accepting it :) it's easy to get caught up on threads, especially when they move quickly and start reading posts as having the same tone.
