To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

What do people who shower once or twice a week do about exercise? I shower daily, but I do at least 30 minutes of exercise that works up a sweat most days. I also walk a lot (8km min daily), and that also makes me sweat (slightly) if I'm walking quite fast or far.

probably don't exercise... not everyone does.

Who cares? Seriously.. I don't know why these threads keep coming up.

It's not a bloody competition..

I shower every day but SHOWER every other day. One's a quick 3-minute 'in and out' and the other's the shower-equivalent of 12" disco remix, complete with multiples bottles of cleany stuff and some bonus scrubbing.

If you are just slightly unwell it will make you much worse in no time though.

Plus it’s not nice being cold

if you're cold in your house, put the heating on...

Do you fill the bathtub with water every single night??? Gosh, a lot of energy, a lot of water, a lot of money and a lot of time!!!

I do. I have coal fired central heating, which also heats up the hot water, so it doesn't cost anything extra.

Talk about tone deaf

Tigofigo · 15/11/2022 11:38

I shower every other day, unless I've got sweaty. I don't smell and I use minimal products. AND I don't wash my legs / arms with soap most of the time.

princesssparklepants · 15/11/2022 11:45

I wfh 5 days a week and barely leave the house except to do the school run... so don't feel dirty... so I shower every other day.

Unless you are a naturally sweaty person, do a dirty job etc there really is no need to bath/shower everyday! And those who do it twice a day! My word what a waste of water.

Can't help but think people have been conditioned by marketing companies to think they are dirty.... I mean how much shower gel etc do you go through??

I don't use much as I wash with bar soap first
But I do spin classes 5 days a week so definitely need a shower after that!

Grim. So that explains why so many people stink on public transport.

You must be an exceptionally grim and sweaty person then. She's talking about showering not washing. You can wash the parts that actually do smell daily without needing to wash all your skin.

Personally every other day as it dries out my skin and I spend a fortune on moisturisers to replace the oils I wash out.

No wonder we have pandemics.

😂😂😂. Viruses are spread via the hands or droplets, not by an unwashed back or kneecap.

This is just daft. Sparkling's showers, are not going to make a jot of difference one way or another. Water supplies are massively mismanaged in the UK and until that is sorted nothing consumers do will impact on the millions of gallons wasted through leaks and the pollution.

Thank you for the support. I seem to be the thread villain. 🤔
I’ve hardly been able to concentrate at work this morning worrying about my terrible behaviour with regard to showering. ☹️

queenofarles · 15/11/2022 12:43

You can wash the parts that actually do smell daily sorry , but I highly doubt that even does it or that most people actually do the so called wash over the sink thing.
so many times I’ve stood next to people in public places and they reeked of stale smell or even worse urine 😫.

You not the villain, It's the few of us who dare to mention the good old days.

PrestonNorthHen · 15/11/2022 13:42

People always say I don't shower everyday and I don't smell.
Yes you do!
People are oblivious to their own smell hence the smelly people in shops and on public transport.
Do we really think they go " oh I stink but I will go out anyway"

Wiluli · 15/11/2022 13:53

I’m sorry but those saying they don’t wash or shower more than once a week , you are probably not able to smell yourself but you do smell to others

JamSandle · 15/11/2022 13:56

I do. I think it's hygienic and I feel more awake after I do. I'm sure they say you don't actually need to shower as often as we do in the modern world but it makes me feel more human.

I have a bath after every night shift, helps me relax which is at least 4 x a week.

JusteanBiscuits · 15/11/2022 13:59

Every other day in this household. Been told my many medical professionals that showering every day is un necessary and detrimental to skin health.

Showering every other day is not gross, you won't smell unless you are doing hard physical labour, and most definitely does not add to pandemics! Only one MN would someone claim that 🙄

This comes up on Mumsnet often and then there is a competitive match between people who shower 5 times and day and those that do it once a month.

For me, I have to shower daily. Each morning. I would feel dirty otherwise. Wash my hair every other day and as it is curly I let it air dry. Everyone in my house showers daily (including teens) and when they were younger they had a bath daily. One of them had bad eczema and her consultant said a short bath each day was crucial (so I don't get the people who have kids with eczema who say otherwise but I suspect they're not under a consultant for their treatment).

Honestly some people do look/smell like they don't wash daily but mistakenly think others don't notice. They do. They're just too polite to say anything.

For me a shower is less than 5 mins or maybe 6 if I wash my hair so it hardly takes time out from my morning. Washing in the sink would take as long.

I like to feel fresh and clean. Showering daily does that for me.

Multiple consultants in both allergy clinics and dermatology clinics told us not to bathe our son daily as it would aggravate his eczema.

Melvin2021 · 15/11/2022 14:14

I shower everyday without fail! Takes 2 or 3 minutes in the morning but I only wash my hair 3 times a week and dry shampoo inbetween.

'educate yourself darling...' 🤮

Bet you don't EVER say that to anyone in real life. I can't imagine ANYONE does...... Anyone who does would not have any friends. Wink Everyone I know would literally rip the piss out of anyone who said this. WTAF?! 😂
