To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

It’s not 3 minutes though, is it. Maybe, maybe 3 minutes in the actual shower… if you’re reasonably quick… but there’s the time waiting for the shower to warm up, drying and dressing afterwards, potentially drying your hair etc. It’s 15 minutes at least.

Got to wait for the shower to warm up? Confused My shower takes 10 seconds to 'warm up.'

Also, the very idea that faffing around with 3 or 4 flannels and a bar of soap at the sink is easier/better/cheaper than a 2-3 minute shower is farcical. The boiler being on to heat up the water for the sink, and the amount of time you'd need the hot tap on to fill the sink adequately, would end up taking more energy than a bloody 2-3 minute shower. ALSO, most people do not wash their hair every day! We are talking about 'just a shower' here.

People have spoken some absolute nonsense on here. People not being able to afford a 2-3 minute shower is the biggest load of bull on here. Boiling a kettle full of water probably uses more bloody electricity FFS. Hmm And most people probably do THAT half a dozen times a day.

Yes.

bakewellbride · 15/11/2022 14:30

I shower every day almost all the time. Very, very occasionally about once or twice a month I skip a day and shower 6 days out of 7. Daily all over washing is important once you've hit puberty onwards imo.

I don’t smell, very rarely I am sweaty … Do people shower every morning because they wake up smelly and are sweaty?

I sweat quite a lot at night when my body fights some infection. I mean, it's when I'm not obviously ill, but there's something going on and my body fights it off when I sleep. I wake up very sweaty and with stinky armpits 😬

I shower twice a day. Wash my hair every other day.

Fairislefandango · 15/11/2022 14:41

Yes I shower every day and so do my husand and teenage children. I don't understand why you say it takes up too much time. I can shower in 3 minutes. That includes washing my hair.

Googlecanthelpme · 15/11/2022 14:53

Shower every single day, usually twice a day, morning and night.

Absolutely love my showers, in the morning it sets me up for the day and on a night it relaxes me and helps me to unwind for bed. I also absolutely detest taking make up off in the sink (frigging goes everywhere and soaks the floor!) so having a shower on the night is also how I make sure all my make up is off and skin is nice and clean and prepped for skin care!

You can wash the parts that actually do smell daily sorry , but I highly doubt that even does it or that most people actually do the so called wash over the sink thing.
so many times I’ve stood next to people in public places and they reeked of stale smell or even worse urine 😫.

Personally, the only times I've ever noticed anyone standing next to me that 'smells' it is blatantly obvious that they have REALLY awful hygiene standards ie: haven't washed their bodies/hair, used deodorant or washed their clothes (because they can smell, not just bodies!) In alot longer than afew days...more like afew weeks AT LEAST I expect.I have never stood next to someone who looks presentable that smells....and I doubt they all wash every day.

BCBird · 15/11/2022 15:01

I stink in the morning 🙄🤣

TheOrigRights · 15/11/2022 15:03

I think unwashed clothes is a bigger issue than unwashed bodies.

Mummyof287 · 15/11/2022 15:05

What I am finding most interesting about this thread, is that it seems like it's socially acceptable to wash your hair once or twice a week but not your body?! I think if we are talking about the outward impression we are giving to others (because that's seemingly the primary desire in all this) then IMO greasy or smelly hair is one of the most obvious signs of uncleanness there is.Maybe I just have particularly greasy hair or something, but if I don't wash mine every 2, 3 days tops it starts to look gross...not to mention the smells that get in it.Much more obvious to others than slightly smelly private parts which are covered up ( unless your having sex of course...or are a nudist!)

Mine is curly and doesn't get greasy. It takes a good 45-60 mins to diffusers maybe 70% dry and I really don't have time to do that every other evening
It goes from down to ponytail to messy bun to wash, repeat

AnaJeff · 15/11/2022 15:24

Im from Uk and i dont have time to shower daily. My kids dont shower daily either. We dont smell. I have one every other day tbh. A friend of mine showers three times a day (waking up, after gym which is understandable, before bed) too much imo

Taking about people speaking a load of nonsense on this thread, I’ll add your comment to that list.

Nowhere did I say I ‘faff about’ with a sink wash, and if I did why would I need 3 or 4 flannels?! Two at most. I shower every other day and that suits me fine. If for whatever reason I need to shower again in between then obviously I would, but as a general rule it works for me. If it doesn’t you, that’s fine also. Also neither did I say I can’t afford to shower every day - I said it saves me money not to because it does - that’s a bonus for me not a necessity, I’m very lucky.

And yes, I do need to wait for my shower to warm up. Lucky you if you don’t but I have old plumbing so it takes a couple of minutes for the hot water to run through.

Unless you have access to some kind of data or information that I don’t, I really don’t think you’re in a position to state what people can and can’t afford either. For a lot of people, especially at the moment, tough choices are being made and that includes whether to use electricity/ energy for a shower or not. Please think before making sweeping, judgemental statements like that again.

But how do you know that's because they hadn't showered that particular morning, and had only showered 28hrs before hand...?

blobby10 · 15/11/2022 15:53

53 year old female - shower every night before bed. Hair wash approx 3 times per week. Do shower more if I've been to the gym or cycling. Takes me around 3 minutes if I'm focussed and not washing my hair.

You not the villain, It's the few of us who dare to mention the good old days.

Do you think? I am single handedly responsible ruining the planet. That summer hose pipe ban? That was all down to me and my 2 showers a day.

Marigoldandivy · 15/11/2022 16:09

Can’t imagine not showering every day. It would be like not cleaning my teeth yuck!

Fairislefandango · 15/11/2022 16:11

What are people doing that makes a shower such a time commitment?! I mean - how long can it honestly take to wash yourself?

Depends whether or not you are healthy and able-bodied.

MysteryBelle · 15/11/2022 16:31

Fact is, if you only shower on third day or once a week, you do not smell fresh. That fresh as a daisy feeling that you seem to be very hostile to.

Your excuse is that you’ll feel cold (for 1 minute between undressing and getting into warm shower),

your hair is not ready to be washed yet (put it in shower cap, why are you ignoring this?),

takes an hour (no it doesn’t, takes 3 minutes),

takes too much water (it’s ok to clean yourself with water each day, good grief, people have gone off the cliff, punishing themselves as if they are not worthy of taking a shower.)

Did someone tell you that you stink? Or is this thread about something else?

No wonder we have pandemics.

Wow- what a ridiculous response

amiold · 15/11/2022 16:39

Can't believe so many people don't wash everyday ... I shower morning and most nights.

People who don't wash daily say they don't smell but usually they're unaware they stink.

Such bad hygiene imo

username8888 · 15/11/2022 16:44

I do in the summer months but alternate days in colder months, and wash every day, twice a day. Need to be clean down below in case I get lucky 🤣

username8888 · 15/11/2022 12:03

😂😂😂. Viruses are spread via the hands or droplets, not by an unwashed back or kneecap.

Educate yourself darling

Poor hygiene facilitates transmission. Common sense.
