DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

You are going to cook the pizza (at like 240 degrees) before you eat it aren't you?

You're going to burn the shit out of it at 240 degrees

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/11/2022 17:48

Well presumably op used the scissors after the pizza was cooked but I still don't see a problem

Aprilx · 11/11/2022 17:49

I think cutting a pizza with scissors is definitely the strangest thing I have read today. I am not a germophobe or anything, but as you ask, yes I think it was pretty unhygienic, assuming these are not your dedicated “food scissors” that are washed after each use.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/11/2022 17:49

Did you not even lick the scissors clean first? 😱

cosypeppermint · 11/11/2022 17:49

Bownus · 11/11/2022 17:39

Pizza cutter means also have to dirty a chopping board rather than straight to plate then cut with scissors for a truly lazy Friday tea

What?! You can use a pizza cutter with the pizza on a plate!

OhmygodDont · 11/11/2022 17:50

You don’t cut pizza with scissors that’s the weird part.

GoldenSpiral · 11/11/2022 17:50

YABU for cutting pizza with scissors.

YANBU re hygiene.

Bownus · 11/11/2022 17:51

You can’t use a pizza cutter to cut a pizza on a plate! The plate is too small for the whole pizza how would you do it?

Topseyt123 · 11/11/2022 17:52

I would have no issue with this. Your DH is batshit.

What did you cook the pizza on? And please don’t say the bare wire rack.

OneFrenchEgg · 11/11/2022 17:52

I have food scissors! For the ends of spring onions and pizza and stuff. Not for packaging though, those ones have black handles. I didn't realise I was weirdConfused

StopGo · 11/11/2022 17:52

Your DH is now the designated pizza opener, cooker and cutter for ever. Maybe get him pizza shears for Christmas.

Bownus · 11/11/2022 17:53

I’ve got a bit of carbon steel that lives in the oven and functions like a pizza stone.

He's OTT. I'm a bit with stuff like that but wouldn't bother with that. I also use scissors all the time in the kitchen. Pizza, garlic bread. I cut meat with them for meals. Never chop chicken breast just snip chunks. The list goes on.

Sandysandwich · 11/11/2022 17:54

Pizza with scissors is sensible- it is pointless to buy a whole utensil like a pizza cutter that has only one purpose, when scissors cut pizza just as effectively and can do many other things with them- such as opening the plastic wrapper around that ftozen pizza.
Your husband is being weird.

ReneBumsWombats · 11/11/2022 17:40

People cut pizza with scissors??

Nothing about it bothers me hygiene-wise but...scissors?

Pizza cutters exist for a reason!

I hate been converted by Korean chefs. They use scissors for everything! Herbs, noodles, steak. Bloody brilliant. Try it.

ladyofshertonabbas · 11/11/2022 17:55

Yanbu. Spray his pizza with dettol before serving. Job done.

SeasonsHeatings · 11/11/2022 17:56

Cut the pizza on a chopping board with a pizza cutter and then just serve it straight from the chopping board.

Back to the original question, Your husband is weird.

SkiingIsHeaven · 11/11/2022 17:56

He can always make his own dinner

elephantseal · 11/11/2022 17:57

I like cutting pizza with scissors. Much easier than a pizza cutter!!

Aprilx · 11/11/2022 17:57

BitOutOfPractice · 11/11/2022 17:46

Cutting the pizza with scissors is the future. As you say, no chopping board gets dirty. It’s a win for me.

as for the plastic packaging - he realises that’s been touching the pizza anyway doesn’t he?

@Bitterbean do you wash knives, forks and spoons that have been in a drawer before you use them? Or is it just scissors that the germs adhere to?

do you wash knives, forks and spoons that have been in a drawer before you use them?

My answer to that is no, but I do wash cutlery after use. Whereas the scissors do not get washed after use and in fact have been washed only once or twice ever.

That’s how I do it too. Like a family buffet when we have junk foods.

OutDamnedSpot · 11/11/2022 17:58

Technically, I can see that he’s right, but practically, I’m on Team OP.

Those of you questioning scissors for pizza have obviously never tried it. Sooooooo much easier.

Loics · 11/11/2022 17:59

YABU for cutting a pizza with scissors, that's... odd. 😅
