DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom Ironically, I find scissors easier precisely because one hand is badly effected by arthritis and scissors make it easier to do things one handed!

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2022 18:33

I use food scissors for cutting pizza, spring onions, meat etc. I read it on here years ago and it's one hack I'd actually recommend.

People cut pizza with scissors??

Nothing about it bothers me hygiene-wise but...scissors?

Pizza cutters exist for a reason!

Glad it’s not just me that thinks that - I couldn’t believe it when the wife was chopping away at one of the kids pizza with some scissors

pumpkinelvis · 11/11/2022 18:33

I don't see the problem with that and I also use scissors to cut pizza. Much easier

exLtEveDallas · 11/11/2022 18:34

I use my kitchen scissors for loads:
pizza, cabbage/lettuce. Spring onions. Raw Chicken breast if I want chunks, same with stewing beef. Belly pork after it’s been cooked. Honestly, it’s probably my favourite utensil.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/11/2022 18:34

I thought you meant cut into slices straight away for some reason but if you meant after cooking then yeh I'm with your DH. You opened it when the pizza was raw, then touched the cooked pizza with raw touched scissors.
And I knowwwwww if there was neat on it, it's already cooked but still, there would be bacteria especially from the cheese

If your DH isn't a MNer he needs to be. He'd have an absolute ball on the competitive towel/bedding/sex organ washing threads.

That was my first thought too!

ChickinBell · 11/11/2022 18:35

Genius, I'm hoping to do this too now

emmathedilemma · 11/11/2022 18:35

i Did exactly this last night. The plastic had been inside a box, there was no raw meat on the pizza, I am still alive today.
also, scissors cut way better than a pizza cutter.

No499 · 11/11/2022 18:36

Cutting a pizza with scissors - YABU! Use a knife or pizza cutter

Bobshhh · 11/11/2022 18:37

Scissors are the only acceptable pizza cutting tool and ours get washed like you would cutlery so no issue at all.

They're presumably not the scissors you use to cut plastic though, if they're food scissors

cosypeppermint · 11/11/2022 17:33

He’s being weird.

Not sure about wrecking scissors by using them to cut pizza though? Get a pizza cutter!

No no noooo,

My Millennial introduced me to scissors 10 years ago. They’re the best thing for cutting pizza. Pizza cutters are crap.

jtaeapa · 11/11/2022 18:37

I have 3 pairs of kitchen scissors that live in the cutlery drawer. Whatever they are used for (packets, food, whatever) they go into the dishwasher. So you can be confident that anything from the drawer is clean. My issue with what you did was to cut raw food and then cooked food. That’s why I gave 3 pairs. Never cut raw then cooked. Plastics can be skanky I suppose as well. Not usually but could be.

FallingsHowIFeel · 11/11/2022 18:39

I wouldn’t worry about it. But if you’ve seen the conditions of how some food is stored/handled/transported, then he probably has a point, presuming it didn’t come in a box.

I'm a millennial and I use a pizza cutter!

Huh?
Cheese can be eaten straight from the block. I know, I’ve done it

Pandor · 11/11/2022 18:39

I have a pair of scissors/shears that are specifically marketed as pizza shears. That is their sole use in our house. I’m so confused - am I allowed to use them to cut pizza or must I use the pizza cutter I also own but which is far more of a faff?

tell me what to do Mumsnet!!!!

Moonatics · 11/11/2022 18:39

OhmygodDont · 11/11/2022 17:52

What did you cook the pizza on? And please don’t say the bare wire rack.

Oh fucking hell. I'm doing the whole pizza thing completely wrong.
I cook it on the bare wire rack thing cos the instructions say to, I cut it with scissors always cos its easier than a wheel.
What is wrong with cooking it on bare wire rack?

Oh and I wash all my scissors often, especially after cutting pizzas, but also after opening boxes and packaging.

WonderingWanda · 11/11/2022 18:40

I think cutting the pizza with scissors is a genius idea op. I don't think what you did was disgusting. Humans need to be exposed to a few germs now and then or surely our immune system will forget how to work!

Goawayquickly · 11/11/2022 18:41

I always cut pizza with my kitchen scissors. Those who say they’d burn themselves, you cut the fresh pizza before cooking not after.

awakenme · 11/11/2022 18:42

My husband is like this because his mum was like this. She cleaned the house a lot too though he doesn't so I ignore and carry on!

Bluekerfuffle · 11/11/2022 18:42

It’s not so much using the same scissors to cut it open then cut the pizza as using scissors at all to cut pizza instead of a knife that I find odd.

A decent dough pizza would just melt though the rack.
