DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

Including auroclaving his own one 🙈🤣

I can’t believe that I’ve got to 52 years old and have never heard of anyone using scissors to cut pizzas!
How?!?! It just makes so much sense! My pizza wheel is useless.

The next pizza we have I’m going to open the plastic with scissors and then cut the pizza up with the same (unwashed) scissors.

I will be using our kitchen scissors for this (Fiskars) the same scissors that I use for cutting up raw chicken, herbs, chopping the ends off cut flowers etc etc and shock horror sometimes opening parcels 😁😁😁

Forget the plastic why are you using scissors to cut pizza? Use a proper cutter or a knife.

All the comments about using a pizza cutter astound me. Now they are one of the more rank kitchen gadgets available. Them and garlic presses. They are both impossible to clean properly and are more likely to be germ ridden than scissors that get properly cleaned between uses.

They go into the dishwasher and they're fine. Garlic press does sometimes need to be cleaned out properly if you don't rinse it first, like potato mashers and sieves, but the pizza wheel has never been a problem.

No, my kitchen scissors get washed after use exactly the same as knives would be. They're no more likely to be used for random things than the knives are.

True, but even if you wash by hand, no reason a cutter can't be cleaned properly.

I know someone's going to come back and say there are conditions that make it impossible to wash up properly, or wash a cutter properly, but that being the case, I have to assume you're finding some alternative to cut your pizza that works for you. It's really nothing to me if people prefer to use scissors. Simply noting that for most people who can wash utensils one way or another, a pizza wheel isn't an insurmountable challenge. Way less hassle than a potato masher. Those things are a bloody pain.

I feel I should admit that if I look back over the last 12 months I have cut pizzas using knives, pizza cutters and scissors.

The level of concern about cleanliness of utensils on this thread is a bit worrying. I couldn’t live with someone who had to wash kitchen scissors after opening a carton of package with them.

One set of scissors to cut open packages.

Then use a pizza cutter on a pizza stone for cutting the pizza straight out of the oven.

No cross contamination please.

Pizza wheel goes into the dishwasher and is sterilized.

Kitchen scissors have a larger joint that is harder to clean.

That same scissor joint is right next to the food, while the pizza cutter wheel joint is smaller, easier to clean, and is further away from the food.

Used my kitchen scissors today to snip sausage links apart, trim rind off some sliced ham and hack into said ham and sausage packets.

All these people who are scared of using the same scissors to cut cooked pizza as to open plastic packaging... Do you use the same hands to open a pack of crisps and then eat them?
