DH says this is gross

Bownus · 11/11/2022 17:27

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

Scissors are the best thing for cutting pizza, and meat so you don't have to put raw meat on a chopping board (don't like doing that, makes me feel weird about using that chopping board for anything else no matter how thoroughly I clean it)

ghettihead · 12/11/2022 21:04

We have pizza cutters, but scissors are so much easier. Nothing wrong with this at all.

anneofgreengablz · 12/11/2022 21:08

I wash my scissors in between uses, so no problem there, but cutting a pizza with scissors is just wrong. How hard is it to wash a cutting board?

Mumsy2022 · 12/11/2022 21:11

He is totally overreacting. We’ve all got a pair of them scissors! I use mine every day for everything food wise, then put them in the dishwasher. I wouldn’t cross contaminate but I do the same, rip open the pizza packaging and the cut up the pizza with the same pair.

Some men just moan for no good reason, or they’re feeling horny! 🤣🤣

Hmm1234 · 12/11/2022 21:28

You’re weird and gross for using scissors what’s wrong with a kitchen knife? bet you didn’t even wipe them down after

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/11/2022 21:29

Italians cutting pizza with scissors.

Leafblowertime · 12/11/2022 21:31

Well,I’m not remotely posh but I don’t think I’ve ever used scissors to cut a pizza, I use a pizza cutter, but I would do as you do if I was using scissors.

healthadvice123 · 12/11/2022 21:33

Must be a big pizza if doesn't fit on plate
Most of ours do and use pizza cutter or if bigger eat straight off the board
My son at uni though and tells me he has been using the box to save on washing up , which i also thought was gross

healthadvice123 · 12/11/2022 21:34

I actually own some herb scissors bought them middle aisle in lidl as dh uses any old scissors , but he forgets we have them and still uses any old scissors

Dunnoburt · 12/11/2022 21:34

If my other half knew some of the things I did to prepare dinner (not to mention the sell by dates) he wouldn't eat it! I've not killed him or small person in the 15 years we've been together........ if he doesn't like it then he should cook 😂😁😁😁

Close your curtains. It’s a big, scary world out there.

If your DH isn't a MNer he needs to be. He'd have an absolute ball on the competitive towel/bedding/sex organ washing threads.

😂👏👏👏

MrsLighthouse · 12/11/2022 21:51

He’s OTT. As he hasn’t died yet because of your reckless attitude with scissors , l expect he’ll be ok 🤣

ellyeth · 12/11/2022 21:55

Some people are hyper-sensitive now about matters of hygiene. Personally, what you did wouldn't bother me one little bit.

Having read about your dh thinking bread bins are cleaner than out on the counter.. My counter gets cleaned many times daily.... If I had a bread bin... 🤔 Probably as often as I clean through all my drawers. So long as it's covered, it's clean but I'd assume eventually tiny mites would emigrate to a bread bin?! Besides the point but which way up do you store mugs in a cupboard? I had an argument with my brother, he says upside down to keep dust out, I say upright as the shelf inevitably gets dusty and the mugs are used daily so wouldn't get a build up of dust in them 🤷🏼‍♀️ my mugs are cleaned daily, my shelves... Monthly. Perhaps.

You clean your shelves monthly? That’s very impressive. I don’t think the cupboards in my kitchen that just contain cups, plates etc (rather than foodstuffs) have had their shelves cleaned since the kitchen was fitted 10 years ago! They look clean 🤷‍♀️ I’ll get my coat . . . . . . .

WHat makes them herb scissors? I often use scissors for herbs and even today I needed to chop up a load of dates and used scissors, much quicker than a knife.

TheRookie · 12/11/2022 22:31

So am I wrong for using a knife to slice open the plastic then I use some scissors to cut the cooked pizza... Uh oh!!

Also kitchen scissors... Mine are used to cut pizza, cut the babies food up, open packaging of food, open parcels from the postie, wrapping paper, snip my son's hair when it grows over his ears... They get chucked in the sink or dishwasher after each use but they aren't just food scissors! I also use my good knives as letter openers, and my pizza cutter to chop herbs! God forbid!

Gingernan · 12/11/2022 22:50

Oh, fuss about nothing! My daughter cuts pizza with scissors. As long as they aren't my dressmaking ones it's fine.

Manekinek0 · 12/11/2022 23:00

By Mumsnet standards I am grotty. I never knew people went through life worrying about contaminated packaging, washing sheets after sex or washing towels after every use.

I have worked in many kitchens over the years and I think many of you would never eat out again if you saw what went on.

glitterwobbles · 12/11/2022 23:11

I have a pair of pizza scissors. Special plastic long scissors designed funnily enough for cutting pizza.

BagOfBollocks · 11/11/2022 17:45

Seriously? He must be amazing in bed - NOT! 😂

🤭🤣

But seriously, all cutlery and kitchen utensils of that ilk come from that drawer, what's the problem here?

There's something else underlying. Care to share?

askmenow · 12/11/2022 23:39

OhmygodDont · 11/11/2022 17:52

What did you cook the pizza on? And please don’t say the bare wire rack.

Pizza is cooked on a crisper plate in the micro, slide out onto the flattened pizza box, cut with long scissors and hey presto only scissors to wash up later ...oh and the serving plates. Very minimalist household.
Who has time, energy or drawers space for all these implements? Bet there's even a garlic press lurking somewhere.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/11/2022 23:52

WHat makes them herb scissors?

They might just be small ones but you can buy special ones with several parallel pairs of blades. A bit too much of a one trick pony gadget (like pizza wheels) for my tastes.

Gosh, if he thinks that’s disgusting then he should never eat out or eat anything that touches a factory in a conveyor belt ever again.
