To be actually angry Matt Hancock is on I'm a Celebrity

I can't actually believe the bare faced brass for him to be on the programme.

I was a manager of a care home during the height of the pandemic. I remember the outright lies he personally broadcast to the nation. How he told everyone there was a "protective ring" around care homes when we couldn't even buy PPE. How they said that tests were available for people living in care homes when this just wasn't true. How the policy was to discharge to care homes from hospitals.
How over 300 pieces of guidance were released in just 2 months. How a conscious decision was made to finslly allow care home staff to wear masks at 1130pm on a friday night. How we were left to send masks in taxis to other care managers in outbreak because none could be got. How our normal PPE suppliers were told to divert stock to the NHS. How my staff couldn't buy basic groceries because they were routinely told they were not "essential workers"

I have so many painful memories from the early days of the pandemic. I won't share them, I don't want to trigger anyone as I understand everyone had it hard and has experienced awful things. But suffice to say I was so traumatised by what happened, I have left nursing as a profession. My heart is broken. I literally have a montage of the worst bits I think about every day.

To see this man parading on TV, laughing and joking, earning an obscene amount of money for frivolty whilst nurses are striking for a fair pay rise after all of his very public failings that cost people's lives, all the while when he is supposed to be serving his constituents during a cost of living crisis makes me so angry.

Absolutely agree with you.

DuncanBiscuits · 10/11/2022 07:05

No you’re not. It’s utterly shocking behaviour and I wish nobody would watch it out of protest.

I’m sorry for what you went through, and I would also like to thank you. My late mum was in a care home during the pandemic, and I know how hard you all worked to keep everyone safe under the most horrendous circumstances.

I hope the public ignore him. Dont vote him for any trials and he is the first to leave.

Baconking · 10/11/2022 07:15

I haven't watched last night's but have decided to cancel my series link.
I can't watch him. I've already seen his fake laugh on Twitter and that was too much for me.

I feel sorry for some of the celebs as this will ruin their experience. He will get all the trials and receive all the media attention.
Makes me sick!!

Mindymomo · 10/11/2022 07:15

It’s clear that he is never going to apologise for anything that happened regarding care homes. It’s all about me, me, me. He’s a politician, he is never going to give a straight answer if anyone asks him about it. He says he wants people to see the real him, I’d like him to admit his and the government’s failures without being questioned first.

IntrovertedPenguin · 10/11/2022 07:18

Bad move on ITVs part, think everyone should boycott them until he's off air.
He's to blame for so many deaths. It's really insensitive of itv. I don't watch that trash anyway but still.

Battlecat98 · 10/11/2022 07:19

Completely agree,.he is a disgusting man, with no empathy, horribly fake. I cannot fathom how he has the gall to do this, parading around after the devastation he caused. He is despicable. I think if you look up the definition of a psychopath he would fit it.

I can't even imagine what his poor family think.

Lex345 · 10/11/2022 07:20

Thank you @DuncanBiscuits lovely of you to say ❤️

I can only hope that other camp mates ask the right questions and put him on the spot. He won't tell the truth of course. I can't watch it, but DS is and I have heard a few bits already that are making me even more annoyed. Parodying "next slide please".

Its bizarre because I remember the government being criticised, by Labour as much as anybody, for not going far enough regarding extreme measures on Covid. Now it seems they are responsible for inventing a crisis that never was. I worked throughout in a covid Red Zone and it was harrowing.

Endwalker · 10/11/2022 07:24

I'm disappointed none of the other cast walked out in protest, I would have. I also agree that it's a bad move on ITVs part but then again they've generated so many headlines about the show as a result so job done I guess.

ChessieFL · 10/11/2022 07:28

I don’t think any serving MPs should do this programme. It’s not the same as taking time out from a normal job like others are doing. MPs are elected to serve their constituency and while Parliament isn’t in recess they should be doing that, not titting about in the jungle.

ZenNudist · 10/11/2022 07:29

It's disappointing that he can be paid as an MP whilst hamming it up on TV. It shows what contempt he holds the public in and reflects badly on his party. No wonder they didn't want him to do it.

He's already shown what a shit he is. This just magnifies the issue.

ButterflyBiscuit · 10/11/2022 07:29

I recently watched "Help" a tv film with Jodie Comer in that was heartbreaking. It was really simple (amd with a silly ending) but just seeing the day to day unravelling of covid in a care home, knowing that although it's tv it was "real" and probably worse and enduring was so hard.

Everyone should see it. Part of the problem I think is that nursing homes are "away" or bubbles where people don't really think of unless they work there. So it was a bit of out of sight out of mind. Yet affected so many families and nurses.

A friends father died just before the restrictions were dropped - so had had weeks confused and on his own before he died.

I dont think it's in the public consciousness enough how bad it was for those working in nursing homes. I imagine a lot will have ptsd symptoms. X

DuncanBiscuits · 10/11/2022 07:32

I think we all saw the ‘real him’ playing tonsil hockey with his aide on CCTV.

That was enough ‘real’ Matt Hancock for my lifetime 🤮

Bestcatmum · 10/11/2022 07:33

How bloody dare he. Its a huge insult to everyone who suffered loss during covid and to his constituents.
He is obviously having a huge and embarrassing midlife crisis having dumped his wife and taken up with another woman.
Why doesn't he just grow a little pony tail and be done with it.
I watched half the programme and cringed all the way through it.

Dashel · 10/11/2022 07:35

I think boycotting it and not clicking on any articles on it or buying news papers featuring him or the show is the only way of getting feelings known.

They booked him as they knew how much it would get people talking about the show, so the only thing to do is to ignore it

BlueWalnut · 10/11/2022 07:35

YANBU 💐

NooNakedJacuzziness · 10/11/2022 07:35

At least he'll be the first to be voted out. How long before the first one usually goes?

Zoomingo · 10/11/2022 07:36

I was indifferent and thought who cares it's just a TV show like have i got news for you. Then I watched it and felt incredibly uncomfortable. I won't be watching anymore.

malificent7 · 10/11/2022 07:39

Yanbu. Horrendous show anyway with all the animal abuse. Should be banned.

Zebedee55 · 10/11/2022 07:40

I'm with you. My dad died in a nursing home, during the first lockdown, and I know how staff were struggling with hospital patients being offloaded to them whilst Covid positive.😡

My dad had to die without his family being allowed in, and it was just awful.

He died, alone, except for two of the lovely staff, on the day Johnson and co held one of their garden parties.🙁

I could wallop all of this lousy government, 😚 to be honest.

MushMonster · 10/11/2022 07:40

You are 100% right.
I was shocked, then dumbstruck, then angry...
I just hope they leave him there, forever!
And take the whole lot left behind in UK there too.

I cannot possibly watch this! Or the flipping channel that is paying him to get yet another knife on our back. I think they will regret this....

SalviaOfficinalis · 10/11/2022 07:42

I agree with you absolutely. Matt Hancock has no shame, though there’s much he should be ashamed of.

It must be really difficult for you to have experienced those horrendous things, and now the public consciousness has moved on and it’s like nothing ever happened.

If you do feel like you have PTSD type symptoms it’s worth looking at what help is available. All the best for the future.

Changerofthename1 · 10/11/2022 07:42

It’s so totally wrong. I remember calling Boris out at the time at the pandemic, pointing out what an absolute shit show it was and people were defending him then and are defending him now. I know people used to joke about what the average IQ of America was but I can’t believe that we are far off now.

MushMonster · 10/11/2022 07:44

I agree with this!
I am doing it.

I still cannot believe the nerve he has!
