To be actually angry Matt Hancock is on I'm a Celebrity

Lex345 · 10/11/2022 07:01

I can't actually believe the bare faced brass for him to be on the programme.

I was a manager of a care home during the height of the pandemic. I remember the outright lies he personally broadcast to the nation. How he told everyone there was a "protective ring" around care homes when we couldn't even buy PPE. How they said that tests were available for people living in care homes when this just wasn't true. How the policy was to discharge to care homes from hospitals.
How over 300 pieces of guidance were released in just 2 months. How a conscious decision was made to finslly allow care home staff to wear masks at 1130pm on a friday night. How we were left to send masks in taxis to other care managers in outbreak because none could be got. How our normal PPE suppliers were told to divert stock to the NHS. How my staff couldn't buy basic groceries because they were routinely told they were not "essential workers"

I have so many painful memories from the early days of the pandemic. I won't share them, I don't want to trigger anyone as I understand everyone had it hard and has experienced awful things. But suffice to say I was so traumatised by what happened, I have left nursing as a profession. My heart is broken. I literally have a montage of the worst bits I think about every day.

To see this man parading on TV, laughing and joking, earning an obscene amount of money for frivolty whilst nurses are striking for a fair pay rise after all of his very public failings that cost people's lives, all the while when he is supposed to be serving his constituents during a cost of living crisis makes me so angry.

There’s only one thing Matt Hancock’s interested in, and that’s the ££££££££££ he thinks he can rake in from this.

He’s beneath contempt. They all are. My beloved mother died during the pandemic - we weren’t allowed to visit her in hospital and I truly believe she gave up all hope because she thought we’d abandoned her. Then as we left her funeral, not allowed even to gather as a family to mourn her, Johnson and his cronies were busy having jolly parties at No. 10.

They are beyond grotesque. I’m so sorry for all that you went through, @Lex345 . You tried so hard to do the right thing and they failed you.

Completely agree,.he is a disgusting man, with no empathy, horribly fake. I cannot fathom how he has the gall to do this, parading around after the devastation he caused. He is despicable. I think if you look up the definition of a psychopath he would fit it.

I can't even imagine what his poor family think.

Correct

Psychopaths don't always go round as serial killers.
Its about Power and they will walk over anyone and everyone to get that.
Then there are those, like Hancock, who kill by stealth. He is defo guilty of that one
Like Manson, he never killed anyone but got others to do it.
I see the comparison

DowningStreetParty · 10/11/2022 12:27

MPs don’t have to reply to every email they get- so you might not always get a reply- but the more that people write to them on a topic the harder it is for them to ignore! I think it’s really worth doing.

kickupafuss · 10/11/2022 12:31

I'm not watching this year because he's in it. What makes my blood boil is that he is making out he's doing it to raise awareness of issues he cares about. No he isn't! The only thing he cares about is himself. Why doesn't he donate all of his thousands of pounds he's making from it if he cares so much. He's a vile man.

ArcticSkewer · 10/11/2022 12:32

The public insisted on longer ... harder .... stricter lockdown

The public gets what the public wants

Zoomingo · 10/11/2022 12:52

Definitelycross · 10/11/2022 11:00

I saw that. It's sickening.

I usually watch I'm a Celeb, though not when it was in the UK. It's part of the countdown to Christmas. But this year it's off and deleting series link.

I'm disgusted with him and ITV and tbh any camp mates or Ant & Dec that don't leave because of it.

Mind you I'm also gobsmacked that someone married to a royal is in there too.

Yes that was particularly disgusting. He could have easily said, you know what I dont think that's appropriate.

ODPintheNHS · 10/11/2022 13:03

@ArcticSkewer I agree with everything you’ve said.

i worked frontline in ITU and A&E all through covid, I understand why people are upset.

Given BG history, and that of Ant, I just can’t get upset about Matt Hancock. I think what BG did was far worse, MH Was being led by Boris and a team of advisors.

Boris seems to always been on holiday and away from his constituents. Can’t get hold of my MP ever. it’s not like MH is the only one that takes a holiday, as right or wrong as that is.

It’ll be interesting to see how MH gets on. I enjoyed his entrance into the jungle,

UnstableCarHouse · 10/11/2022 13:09

I think he’s fundamentally misunderstood the public anger towards him. Personally I’m more annoyed that a sitting MP has disappeared off on a two week paid excursion when Parliament is in session and the country is facing unprecedented challenges. If you don’t want to be an MP and want to be a media personality, at least step down from the former. It’s taking the piss.

Kabbalah · 10/11/2022 07:23

Its bizarre because I remember the government being criticised, by Labour as much as anybody, for not going far enough regarding extreme measures on Covid. Now it seems they are responsible for inventing a crisis that never was. I worked throughout in a covid Red Zone and it was harrowing.

And how is this relevant to the OP's post which was about the extent of the lies from Hancock and directing covid patients to be sent to care homes knowing that they had insufficient access to PPE or the ability to operate hospital level infection control?

The post isn't about lockdown its about Hancock's dire performance has health secretary (including getting rid of stocks and preps for a pandemic before covid hit) and lets not forget the fiasco that was TTCE was under his department as well, when jockey club chums were appointed to key positions.

londongals · 10/11/2022 13:21

I do not get why anyone watches this moronic rubbish at all

Definitelycross · 10/11/2022 13:45

threecupsofscreams · 10/11/2022 12:13

I might be wrong but I thing BG served his time in jail for the crime he committed with remorse and has been clean and sober since. I think the rehabilitated should not be perpetually punished when they have repented and sorted their lives out.

Matt Hancock on the other hand wouldn't know humility and remorse for the despicable choices he made and his behaviour since if it launched out of the sky and knocked him over.

Totally agree

Exactly. You can't have the best of everything

Anyone wanting to know how UK politicians could have done better should read Rachel Clarke's devastating book Breathless

This Rachel Clarke?

I want him to do all the bushtucker trials. A bit of routine humiliation served with rats poo and kangaroo testicles will do him the world of good. And probably taste better than NHS food.

Spot on. He knows his political career is pretty much over, and he has an expensive divorce to fund. The man is utter scum. I couldn't bear to watch or listen to him during the pandemic - I remember him 'crying' with emotion over the first jabs when it was clear he was laughing and the 'step grandfather' dying of covid who turned out to was actually his step-father's ex-wife's second husband. Not to mention that he was clearly enjoying power he had over people's lives just a bit too much.

thinkfast · 10/11/2022 14:47

I totally agree OP. I think all the other contestants should have walked out in protest.

Rhondaa · 10/11/2022 15:05

They need to be very careful because McPartlin with his drink driving conviction and petulant Big Baby Boy George are beginning to look bigger arses than Hancock.

No one disputes errors were made during the pandemic but he was acting on the advice of medical experts regarding the discharging of patients. Care homes clearly needed more training with stringent infection measures in place, but this happened in every country not just England as the elderly were always sadly going to be the most at risk. Scotland had the same and we don't hear folk demonising Sturgeon.

He is certainly misguided to go on this show but the hand wringing celebs need to be a bit more Sean Walsh and act like grown ups. Loved 'journalist' Charlene's hard hitting questioning that she was strangely proud of. 'So why do it?'. Not quite Paxman Grin.

twelly · 10/11/2022 15:13

I think there a number of different points re Matt Hancock appearing this show

  1. He is a sitting MP and should be at the H of C/constituency - I think he should really be doing the job the public pay him for.
  2. The points re his actions during the pandemic etc etc are not valid in my view. There are many people on the tv whom do or have done things which have impinged on our life. In addition whilst I do not agree with the handling of the pandemic in that I think the regulations caused untold damage I do not think he is responsible for deaths. The pandemic happened, it was unprecedented and therefore we will never know what would have been the best of course of action.

I think its important to be clear on just why people think someone should or should not be on this type of show.

Abhannmor · 10/11/2022 15:18

100% agree. Though it was amusing to see Grant Shapps condemn him. Two cheeks of the same arse.

blackpearwhitelilies · 10/11/2022 15:20

I don't think anyone was saying that people who managed the epidemic differently in other countries didn't have death tolls, did they clavinova?

And in response to another poster some of the public wanted stricter, more immediate lockdowns in the hope that these would be shorter if they could curtail the spread. That wasn't a stupid idea at the time.

In any case neither issue addresses the fact, as Rachel Clarke's book does, that the medical profession were woefully let down by the inadequate provision of PPE, which cost us billions and for which there seems to have been paltry return on the money.

blackpearwhitelilies · 10/11/2022 15:21

But didn't he lie about the care homes? I thought he claimed that there was a protective ring around them even as elderly patients were being discharged into the homes and bringing the disease with them and spreading it. I don't think that's what the medical experts were suggesting.

CruCru · 10/11/2022 15:29

Honestly? The best way to upset Matt Hancock is to ignore him. He thrives off attention (most politicians do). So don’t give him any. Don’t watch the silly show he’s in, don’t buy newspapers where he’s on the front page.

MissMaple82 · 10/11/2022 15:35

You are absolutely not being unreasonable. I agree with you 100%. It's a piss take

MissMaple82 · 10/11/2022 15:35

I refuse to watch. I think that's the best way. Just boycott the show

KnittedCardi · 10/11/2022 16:14

I think at that point, it was still assumed Covid was a droplet infection, not aerosol. So, you had the 2 metre rule, but not isolation. Also, hospitals were told NOT to discharge actively ill patients, but those with no symptoms were OK to be discharged, as again, it was not known that it could spread asymptomatically.

Lies or bad direction, or poor decision making? Who knows. As I said above, I hope all this will come in the Public Enquiry.
