To be actually angry Matt Hancock is on I'm a Celebrity

Lex345 · 10/11/2022 07:01

I can't actually believe the bare faced brass for him to be on the programme.

I was a manager of a care home during the height of the pandemic. I remember the outright lies he personally broadcast to the nation. How he told everyone there was a "protective ring" around care homes when we couldn't even buy PPE. How they said that tests were available for people living in care homes when this just wasn't true. How the policy was to discharge to care homes from hospitals.
How over 300 pieces of guidance were released in just 2 months. How a conscious decision was made to finslly allow care home staff to wear masks at 1130pm on a friday night. How we were left to send masks in taxis to other care managers in outbreak because none could be got. How our normal PPE suppliers were told to divert stock to the NHS. How my staff couldn't buy basic groceries because they were routinely told they were not "essential workers"

I have so many painful memories from the early days of the pandemic. I won't share them, I don't want to trigger anyone as I understand everyone had it hard and has experienced awful things. But suffice to say I was so traumatised by what happened, I have left nursing as a profession. My heart is broken. I literally have a montage of the worst bits I think about every day.

To see this man parading on TV, laughing and joking, earning an obscene amount of money for frivolty whilst nurses are striking for a fair pay rise after all of his very public failings that cost people's lives, all the while when he is supposed to be serving his constituents during a cost of living crisis makes me so angry.

Wasn’t happy to see him there either. I predict trouble in the camp as some camp mates don’t seem too happy hes there.

XanaduKira · 10/11/2022 08:50

Until these threads @Punxsutawney, I had no clue about BG & his background as I'm not a fan & it seems like when it happened, I wasn't living in the UK so hadn't seen the news of it.

Not sure why the 2 are being brought together though? I can agree with what BG says & feel he represents my thoughts on MH, without condoning or agreeing to anything else he has said & done in the past Confused

GoonerGirl5231 · 10/11/2022 08:55

I'm angrier at ITV for exploiting people's grief for ratings, because they know people are going to tune in to see him be humiliated in BT trials or be criticised by the other campmates. He wouldn't be on there if they hadn't invited him on, this is on the show.

We're boycotting until he's out.

SerenaTee · 10/11/2022 08:55

I agree, I saw a clip online this morning of him saying “next slide please” at the request of another camp mate, like it was a joke that we all sat there waiting to hear if we could visit our sick and dying relatives based on what he announced. I have no words for how wrong it is.

Roselilly36 · 10/11/2022 08:56

100% agree, awful man, he should be too ashamed to show his face tbh.

LaurelGrove · 10/11/2022 08:59

If MPs work as hard as they say and deserve the salary they are paid (and actually, I am on board with that - I think it is a hard and important job) then no MP should be able to abandon it when parliament is sitting. You can't govern or represent your constituents from a fucking jungle. They have no formal annual leave restrictions and parliament is usually in session for around 2/3 of the year so there is absolutely nothing stopping him doing what he wants during recess but it is appalling that he thinks it's ok to piss off to Australia right now. Also looking at you and your Caribbean jolly, Johnson.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/11/2022 09:00

I agree with you.

However, watching it last night I thought this is another nail.in the coffin for this government. All the other celebrities are a microcosm of society and they all expressed how they felt ( in different ways) Even down to Mike Tindall saying nothing because he can't. Whether he has had the whip withdrawn or not, Hancock represents the Tory government and their useless handling of the pandemic. He also is showing us all what low esteem they ALL hold us in. Self serving and selfish. Money grabbing.

It's also a reminder that politicians are human and they bring whatever their own brand of humanity is to policy making. Hancock's brand of humanity is someone who only cares about what's in it for him, fuck everyone. That's what he brought to government. I'm glad he's in I'm A Celeb if it helps bring this government down.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/11/2022 09:01

I completely agree. It's triggering me due to my DF passing away in a care home September 2020 and him calling me telling me he was desperate to see my dd. He died a few days later. I can't cope with seeing his face all over the place.

carefulcalculator · 10/11/2022 09:02

I agree with you OP. Flowers

carefulcalculator · 10/11/2022 09:04

Whether he has had the whip withdrawn or not, Hancock represents the Tory government and their useless handling of the pandemic. 100% this, they can not change the reality of what they did/didn't do, however much they try not to think about it themselves.

Feysriana · 10/11/2022 09:04

He’s adding insult to injury. Bad enough that he was crap at such an important job at such an important time, now he’s not even turning up to work, while still getting paid? He should resign as MP and let his constituents elect someone who will actually represent them in Parliament.

It isn’t funny.

I understand that Hancock wants to promote his personal brand and try to line up a reality tv career (his political career is certainly dead) but he isn’t entitled to do that on taxpayer-funded worktime.

It’s worrying, and depressing, that he doesn’t understand why what he is doing is wrong. I guess he took his lead from Boris Johnson who took a great many holidays during work time. 😕

CoffeeMama1 · 10/11/2022 09:30

Blanketpolicy · 10/11/2022 07:08

I hope the public ignore him. Dont vote him for any trials and he is the first to leave.

This!!! I normally love the show but I'm absolutely refusing to watch it or click on any articles about it, he doesn't deserve the air time. To think he's getting paid his £83k a year job while he gets to take 4/5 weeks off, ok it's not a holiday but it's publicity, it's time he physically cannot do his job, if that was anyone in the NHS they'd be lucky if they weren't sacked! He's walking 💩.

CuntyMcBollocks · 10/11/2022 09:31

I can't stand the lying, jumped-up little scrote! He is an abhorrent and smarmy little man who shouldn't even be in politics anymore after the things he's done, let alone on I'm Celeb. I hope a spider nestles in his ear.

MyLovelyPen · 10/11/2022 09:33

Just saw a photo of him laughing his head off and it made me so angry. Another one here who’s DF died alone while this government of cunts partied and fucked us over. It’s an utter disgrace that he’s in there 🤬.

ArcticSkewer · 10/11/2022 09:37

Don't really get all the anger, personally.

I seem to remember a different pandemic, one where the general public were pretty much ready to lynch anyone who coughed and would have happily sealed most people into their houses for 3 months if it meant they themselves might be safe. You get what you deserve from your politicians, in general. Very few people at the time were in favour of schools staying open, the elderly taking up hospital beds that might be needed for the middle aged, scarce resources being diverted to carehomes etc

Legallypinkish · 10/11/2022 09:45

BG shouldn’t be there either . I’m not sure which one I’m more disgusted about.

Rinoachicken · 10/11/2022 10:05

Can his constituency recall him - on account of him abandoning his constituents?

Imagine if you lived in his constituency and you needed to speak to your MP about something, write to them, get their help for something - you know, what they are supposed to be there for - but you can’t because he’s uncontactable on the other side of the world!

vivainsomnia · 10/11/2022 10:08

It is so wrong how in the past decade with have seen politics and media entertainment become one. What a mockery of it it makes.

DowningStreetParty · 10/11/2022 10:11

I don’t know how it works regarding disciplining MPs who abandon their post like this, which is why I wrote to my MP about it- who’s a Tory.

They all need to understand that this crap is completely unacceptable. It’s trashing the perception of MPs at a time of multiple global and national crises. I still believe that most MPs are genuinely in it to help people. So I have no idea why the Tories think this piss taking is acceptable. I feel that if you don’t write to your MP, they won’t change anything unless they understand that it actually affects their standing. So always worth a try.

Notsa · 10/11/2022 10:16

Completely agree. What I found really odd was reading the comments on the Facebook page of our local rag last night. So many people loved it - commenting on how funny he came across, human etc. This is a staunchly Labour area (Liverpool). Blew my mind. Short memories.

wonderstuff · 10/11/2022 10:25

He shouldn’t be there and neither should BG, I think his outrage is hypocritical given his past crimes. I hope they both get voted out early.

Theradioisoncoco · 10/11/2022 10:28

Mike Tindall is so nice, very interesting to watch his body language over this

Agree, although I don’t watch the show so not bothered who is in it. He seems to be generating a lot of PR for it though so for ITV it works. No idea about his political career, maybe he wants to leave anyway.

Would that be the Mike Tindall that was groping that young woman before he went in.

HappyHamsters · 10/11/2022 10:37

I dont know how you get to be on the show but itv have shown a very poor lack of judgement having MH and BG there
