To want a towel to dry my hands?

ItsAllABit · 04/11/2022 21:38

My sister never has a towel in her downstairs toilet so everytime I wash my hands I have to ask her for a towel. She used to just go and get me one but is now rolling her eyes everytime I ask. Tonight we were there and when I came out of the bathroom I asked her for a towel. Everyone in the room burst out laughing and she rolled her eyes and said “wipe them in your hair”. She basically went on to say that she’s sick of me asking for a towel, she thinks I’m attention seeking and making a massive song and dance all the time and it’s boring. I said it’s perfectly normal to want to wash and dry your hands after using the toilet!!?

anyway when we left I asked DH why he was laughing earlier and he said “because you say the same thing everytime, it’s funny because she gets so wound up by it and when you went in there she said “watch her come out banging on about a towel” so everyone was waiting for you to say it”

Isnt it normal to want to dry your hands after washing them?? Am I being the sick here? DH agrees with my sister apparently that I’m making a song and dance

Yanbu, she's a bad host.

LolaSmiles · 04/11/2022 21:41

If she has paper towels or an alternative then you are making a song and dance.

If there's no way for anyone to dry their hands then she is unreasonable.

It's weird to not have a way for people to dry their hands and she seems like a drama llama not providing a towel and then waiting for you to ask.

helpimgoingcrazyhere · 04/11/2022 21:42

She’s an idiot and I’m with you on this. Just provide a towel! It’s more hygienic then wiping hands on clothes or shaking them dry.

woodhill · 04/11/2022 21:43

What an odd situation, why would there not be a towel

Strugglingtodomybest · 04/11/2022 21:44

That's so weird, I don't think I've ever been in a bathroom, in someone's house, that didn't have a towel to dry your hands on.

husbandcallsmepickle · 04/11/2022 21:44

Is there a toilet upstairs you could use? Does that have a towel?

ItsAllABit · 04/11/2022 21:44

There is nothing in there, no paper towels, nothing. She says it’s because she doesn’t have a towel rail so nowhere to put a “stupid towel”

It’s normal to have a hand towel in the bathroom, and I would be a bit confused if someone didn’t have one, but I’d feel rude asking for one (especially if it wasn’t the first time and they obviously didn’t see the importance).

I think in your shoes I’d just dry my hands on my clothes to avoid any awkwardness.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/11/2022 21:46

You aren’t being unreasonable to want a towel, but if you know she doesn’t have one then just bring some kitchen roll. you are being annoying TBH.

kanyoukan · 04/11/2022 21:47

I don't have a towel in the downstairs loo because I don't wash my hands... maybe she doesn't either. I wash my hands in public loos but not at home

rosiebl · 04/11/2022 21:49

That's just weird. Doesn't your sis wash her hands after using the downstairs loo? What about everyone else who visits? Gross!

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 04/11/2022 21:50

Have you asked her directly how she washes and dries her hands after using the toilet?

Such a weird situation where she is basically admitting she doesn't wash her hands but yet everyone seems to be on her side?!

Pixiedust1234 · 04/11/2022 21:51

Few choices next time.
Take your own extra fluffy towel but only you use it.
Use the upstairs bathroom or
Say nothing but go over to sister and use her skirt.

Shes an idiot btw.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/11/2022 21:52

So hang on, she knew you like to be able to dry your hands, but she invited you over and didn’t put one in there? She then make a big joke about how you would come out asking for a towel and invited everyone to laugh at you. She doesn’t sound very nice at all!

Ew

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/11/2022 21:53

@kanyoukan that is disgusting! I’m sorry I’m not one to criticise people’s hygiene standards on here normally but that’s awful. Do you then go and handle food? After wiping your bum?

Or is this a joke?

ItsAllABit · 04/11/2022 21:53

She just keeps saying to wipe them in my hair, I don’t even understand what she’s on about, probably another in-joke I’m not a part of

Glad to know it’s not me being the weirdo though

Surely if you’re in a bathroom with no towel you just grab a couple of bits of toilet roll and use those? Especially if you know she moans about having to get you a towel.

RitaFires · 04/11/2022 21:54

I would be making fun of my sister for not having a towel in her bathroom because she didn't find a place she liked to hang one, it's such a strange thing to do. She's definitely the weird one.

phishy · 04/11/2022 21:54

I’d stop going over there.

Both your sister and DH sound like twats.

kanyoukan · 04/11/2022 21:55

@TimeSlipMushroom
Yep! I don't! I live on a farm and I don't wash my hands after I've lambed a sheep or cleaned out the pigs, I'm also pretty healthy. Get the odd cold the kids bring home. People are too sanitised now. It's pathetic. I can understand in a hospital but it's never done me any harm

Why don't you wash your hands? That's batshit.

dementedpixie · 04/11/2022 21:55

My bathroom doesn't have a rail for a hand towel so we hang one from a command hook on the bathroom door

dementedpixie · 04/11/2022 21:56

Just use up all the toilet roll to dry your hands

butterfliedtwo · 04/11/2022 21:57

Of course it's bloody normal. They're all weird, and I would hate going there. It seems bullying.

Your sister is a bad hostess.
