To want a towel to dry my hands?

ItsAllABit · 04/11/2022 21:38

My sister never has a towel in her downstairs toilet so everytime I wash my hands I have to ask her for a towel. She used to just go and get me one but is now rolling her eyes everytime I ask. Tonight we were there and when I came out of the bathroom I asked her for a towel. Everyone in the room burst out laughing and she rolled her eyes and said “wipe them in your hair”. She basically went on to say that she’s sick of me asking for a towel, she thinks I’m attention seeking and making a massive song and dance all the time and it’s boring. I said it’s perfectly normal to want to wash and dry your hands after using the toilet!!?

anyway when we left I asked DH why he was laughing earlier and he said “because you say the same thing everytime, it’s funny because she gets so wound up by it and when you went in there she said “watch her come out banging on about a towel” so everyone was waiting for you to say it”

Isnt it normal to want to dry your hands after washing them?? Am I being the sick here? DH agrees with my sister apparently that I’m making a song and dance

@TimeSlipMushroom
Yep! I don't! I live on a farm and I don't wash my hands after I've lambed a sheep or cleaned out the pigs, I'm also pretty healthy. Get the odd cold the kids bring home. People are too sanitised now. It's pathetic. I can understand in a hospital but it's never done me any harm

That’s not the point. The point is if your hands are wet, you want a towel, surely? So odd to to have a towel.

I have dried my hands on my hair, it’s thick and curly, but not everyone would want to get their hair wet, most people surely want a towel, that’s normal.

NamelessTemptress01 · 05/11/2022 10:07

The towel she gives you probably isn’t clean, I always feel a bit gross using other peoples hand towels as you don’t know what they’ve used it for

Surely if you’re in a bathroom with no towel you just grab a couple of bits of toilet roll and use those? Especially if you know she moans about having to get you a towel.

It’s impossible to dry your hands on toilet paper, it just disintegrates i to little bits all over your hands.

There is nothing in there, no paper towels, nothing. She says it’s because she doesn’t have a towel rail so nowhere to put a “stupid towel”

She’s BU. We didn’t have a towel rail in the downstairs loo but bought an adhesive hook and stuck it on the wall for the towel. Take a flannel in your pocket when you visit her I guess!

This thread has it all: the dirty lambing hands troll, the filthy sister (seriously, stop going round to her hovel), the faux confusion over the concept of towels in a kitchen, MN hygiene horror over the thought of drying clean hands on a tea towel.

Is the black soap just straight-up mould?

It certainly is a thread of extremes. Not withstanding the hygiene aspect I would have thought that any normal person would want to wash the grunge off their hands after lambing/cleaning pigs.

I hate having sticky hands.

@SunshineAndFizz I wear only dresses and skirts with a full slip underneath. I’m both modest and cold. Full skirts hang better with a slip or petticoat. Even pencil skirts look better with a slip slip. No, I don’t live in an ark or the past.

I had no idea petticoats were a thing in 2022.

Slips I've heard of, even Skims for those fashionistas amongst us. But genuinely never heard of someone wearing a petticoat.

Everyday is a school day.

I don't have a towel in the downstairs loo because I don't wash my hands... maybe she doesn't either. I wash my hands in public loos but not at home

Even after a poo?

OoooohMatron · 05/11/2022 11:12

Personally I'd just dry my hands on a bit of loo roll but it's weird she doesn't have one.

You need to use quite a lot of toilet paper for drying hands. It’s annoying (and wasteful) but sometimes there’s no proper paper towels in public toilets.

Marigoldandivy · 05/11/2022 12:37

I’d take my own small towel and make sure I never ate anything she had touched!

woodhill · 05/11/2022 12:53

@KettrickenSmiled

NiceSmile

I remember having spare separate towels for guests especially after the pandemic and always change the towel if people are visiting . Towels washed regularly anyway

howdoyougethingsdone · 05/11/2022 13:36

Buy her one of those over door hooks and a couple of hand towels for Christmas 😆

Ericaequites · 05/11/2022 14:07

@QS90 Your post made me think of a “shy Di” picture at the kindergarten with a very sheer skirt. Some, it’s an accident.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/11/2022 22:08

I think its time to avoid going over there tbh. Meet in cafes or pubs or your own house but start to make excuses. I'm wondering if shes deliberately being mean to see how much you will put up with under the guise of "family". I'm sorry OP but I bet its more than just a towel.

This is spot on, there’s some other agenda in this, like jealousy,so stop going over to her house. My sister has been like this for years with me. I am NC with her.

Cruisebabe1 · 05/11/2022 14:22

ShandaLear · 04/11/2022 22:27

What? Why? Do you think you do special sterile wees and pos at home?

😂😂😂😂😂

Cruisebabe1 · 05/11/2022 14:24

Ericaequites · 04/11/2022 22:35

I dry my hands on my petticoat when there is no towel. Hand hygiene is important. Give her a command peel off hook and some pretty hand towels for Christmas.

🧐 Petticoat?

😆😆😆😆

@Cruisebabe1 NC best policy if she doesn't wash her hands after going to the loo😂

LikeTearsInRain · 05/11/2022 14:48

It’s normal to have a towel in the loo yes. But you know your sister doesn’t, yet you make a song and dance about it every time. Go upstairs (if there is on there?) or wash your hands in the kitchen and use a tea towel.

Ragingoverlife · 05/11/2022 15:09

I'm terrible for leaving handtowels. I usually have a load of bath towels hanging on the hooks behind the door or on the radiator or the bannister but I don't have a hand towel in my kitchen. I use a tea towel. But I have loads of them and wash them regularly. --There's also 90 percent of the time some washing on the side with a towel on the top-

Betty000 · 05/11/2022 15:10

Wipe your hands down the wall or on the sofa next time!

Scurryfunge12 · 05/11/2022 16:43

Asking for a towel doesn’t qualify as either making a ‘’song and dance’’ or ‘’banging on.’’ Ok, you might ask every time, but you only ask once.

Your sister is trying to humiliate you and make you seem stupid unnecessarily and I’d be annoyed. She clearly doesn’t wash her hands after the toilet very often!

She should just put a bloody towel in there, or kitchen towel!

Your sister and your husband are weird.

bellabasset · 05/11/2022 19:31

The black soap made me laugh and took me back to washing my hands after cleaning out the grate. I'd take a packet of wet wipes with me, no way would I dry my hands on your sister's dirty towels. Hasn't she heard of cross contamination? Don't forget to wipe the door handle😁
