To want a towel to dry my hands?

ItsAllABit · 04/11/2022 21:38

My sister never has a towel in her downstairs toilet so everytime I wash my hands I have to ask her for a towel. She used to just go and get me one but is now rolling her eyes everytime I ask. Tonight we were there and when I came out of the bathroom I asked her for a towel. Everyone in the room burst out laughing and she rolled her eyes and said “wipe them in your hair”. She basically went on to say that she’s sick of me asking for a towel, she thinks I’m attention seeking and making a massive song and dance all the time and it’s boring. I said it’s perfectly normal to want to wash and dry your hands after using the toilet!!?

anyway when we left I asked DH why he was laughing earlier and he said “because you say the same thing everytime, it’s funny because she gets so wound up by it and when you went in there she said “watch her come out banging on about a towel” so everyone was waiting for you to say it”

Isnt it normal to want to dry your hands after washing them?? Am I being the sick here? DH agrees with my sister apparently that I’m making a song and dance

Buy her a towel hook, a couple of towels and a pack of loo rolls for Christmas along with some clean tea towels. Doesn’t sound as if it’s very pleasant at her house!

I don't have a towel in the downstairs loo because I don't wash my hands... maybe she doesn't either. I wash my hands in public loos but not at home

Really !!!!

BabyClubYEEAAH · 05/11/2022 08:21

Mumsnet is so precious 🤣

BakedTattie · 05/11/2022 08:23

I dry my hands on my petticoat when there is no towel

wtf 😂

ScarlettSunset · 05/11/2022 08:26

I'd stop visiting someone who clearly didn't wash their hands after using the toilet. Surely they're offering tea or coffee etc when you visit? I just wouldn't be able to trust their hygiene standards enough to feel even remotely comfortable to stay there for long.
Obviously, it's possible that people who do have towels in their bathrooms might not be using them, but at least it wouldn't be so apparent.

BakedTattie · 05/11/2022 08:27

MN really is the weirdest place at times.

I would have turned it back on your sister there and then. “Dry them in my hair? What do you mean.” Then just looked at her until she explained.

your sister sounds rank and seriously weird.

LizzieSiddal · 05/11/2022 08:30

@kanyoukan so you help animals to birth their young, which will include a lot of bodily fluids, and you then pop in the kitchen eat a sandwich without washing your hands? 🤮

My dh grew up on a farm, and he farmed until he was 30, the first thing he did when coming into the house was throughly wash his hands. Because he’s a normal human being!

ohyouknowwhatshername · 05/11/2022 08:32

This thread is disgusting and hilarious at the same time. Quite an achievement even for MN.

ItsAllABit · 05/11/2022 09:06

Petticoat 😂😂😂😂😂😂

To whoever asked what’s wrong with the upstairs bathroom - it’s not the bathroom as such, it’s just the upstairs of her house is spooky as fuck. It’s a huge house and the upstairs is eerie. The bathroom is full of paintbrushes and there is paint in the toilet

@Ericaequites I wear slip skirts too - I agree they're very practical for keeping warm, as well as stopping people from seeing your bum if the skirt is a bit see-through (as a lot of them seem to be). In Bristol we get treated to a lot of bums on display in the summer- often veiled by the thinnest of chiffon, to which I say everyone should wear what they like, if that's what they feel happy and comfortable in. Wouldn't be my choice though.

@TimeSlipMushroom
Yep! I don't! I live on a farm and I don't wash my hands after I've lambed a sheep or cleaned out the pigs, I'm also pretty healthy. Get the odd cold the kids bring home. People are too sanitised now. It's pathetic. I can understand in a hospital but it's never done me any harm

Almost certainly guarantee you’ve got worms.
I worked as an endoscopy nurse and saw inside a lot of colons and worms were surprisingly common! Especially from pig farmers!

🤢🤢🤢 That's gross

kanyoukan · 04/11/2022 21:58

I'd actually wash my hands thoroughly before I lambed a sheep but not after! None of my family do, we are all incredibly strong fit healthy people. My baby is 8 months old and has had one slight cold... that's it. I havnt even had covid yet

Omg it gets worse. You help an animal give birth and then don't wash your hands?! This has got to be a joke surely

Ladybug14 · 05/11/2022 09:27

Shes never going to put a towel in her downstairs loo. You must know that by now. Its her loo, she can do what she likes.

Why do you keep asking for a towel when you know it will piss her off? Just take one with you or use the upstairs loo (which you don't like....wtf is that all about?)

KettrickenSmiled · 05/11/2022 09:27

woodhill · 04/11/2022 21:43

What an odd situation, why would there not be a towel

Probably because DS doesn't wash her hands after using the loo. So doesn't need to dry them.

Ladybug14 · 05/11/2022 09:30

I've just seen your response re the upstairs loo.

Take a small towel with you each time you visit her ....or don't visit any more

Your choice

Just like her choice is no towel

LizzieSiddal · 05/11/2022 09:31

I’d buy her a towel hook and a few hand towel for her birthday.😂

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2022 09:36

That's odd, does she have paper towels? We started using them in our guest bathroom during Covid and got into the habit of carrying on with it but towels everywhere else.

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2022 09:37

Hmm I think I'd be tempted not to visit - the towel is only part of it!

ginghamstarfish · 05/11/2022 09:38

Hope you don't eat or drink anything there, she sounds like a dirty cow. And how can anyone NOT have a hand towel in the kitchen too?

Shesasuperfreak · 05/11/2022 09:40

Just use toilet roll.
You sound annoying

ldontWanna · 05/11/2022 09:46

So this is really just a thread to tell us what a filthy, disgusting and disorganised mess your sister is?

DoraSpenlow · 05/11/2022 09:50

Dry your hands on your pants!! Do you mean knickers! Then you would need to wash your hands again.

CecilyP · 05/11/2022 09:54

OP, thanks for the thread that keeps giving! A simple solution would get one of those adhesive hooks to stick on her toilet door. Don’t ask just do it! Also get yourself a hand towel, sew a piece of hanging tape on and hang on said hook for duration of visit to sisters house. Don’t say a word just come out of toilet with a big smile on your face!
