I went out around 4pm for 20 minutes to pick up the kids and we come back to discover everything gone... I put out a pumpkin on top of a plastic storage box (rain protection) with two bowls of miniature packets Cadbury chocolates and some selfish git has swiped the lot...

Why are some people so selfish?
AIBU to not bother next year? 😭

Happened to us last year so we're currently up and down answering the door. I'd rather not bother but feel we should for DD!

Batshittery · 31/10/2022 18:12

Oh no. That's really awful Halloween Angry

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 31/10/2022 18:12

Yeah you can't just leave them they get nicked within minutes. Even handing them out we have some kids trying to take a handful instead of just one and they're the little bags of haribo not single sweets so it's pretty obvious it's one thing each.

Shoxfordian · 31/10/2022 18:20

Why did you leave it all outside and expect it not to be stolen?

I expected kids to take one small packet each. This is normally a safe area with good community relations (small village).

I had that one year. Stepped away for a few minutes. They took all the sweets we had, which was loads. I was quite upset by it.

Sprogonthetyne · 31/10/2022 18:30

In our area nearly everyone who decorates also has kids, so a bowl left on the doorstep while you got trick or treating is the norm. We've never had anyone take the micky.

Disneyblueeyes · 31/10/2022 18:32

There is ALWAYS going to be some little sh**(s) that will spoil it.
Don't leave out in future.

blackberrybat · 31/10/2022 18:34

Same has happened here tonight, a gang of older kids has gone through our estate and cleaned everyone out. Lots of people put bowls out because they don't want their door knocked for some reason or other and it's worked fine in previous years. Why do they have to spoil it for the little ones?

Bluekerfuffle · 31/10/2022 18:38

Maybe a large group came by in that 20 minutes and each took one?

Came to say the same. How do you know how many children passed by in that time?

MrsCarson · 31/10/2022 18:43

We left a bowl out when we took Dd round to knock on doors before lockdown and all the kids had taken one each we had loads left when we got home. There's always a few CF's to want more.

Salome61 · 31/10/2022 19:00

I've left a bowl out, going to check now!

SmellyNelliey · 31/10/2022 19:01

Yep same here (also in a small village)

Salome61 · 31/10/2022 19:08

All gone already, I hope the local kids did get some. I did 36 bags this year, as well as a bucket of dog biscuits for my dog walking friends, just for fun.

lightlypoachedeyeballs · 31/10/2022 19:10

We had that once. They even nicked the ceramic bowl.

Bastards.

Novemberhater · 31/10/2022 19:14

I had my camera facing my door and watched on my phone. This year nobody grabbed the lot, but I was ready!

Nattyleane8 · 31/10/2022 19:20

I've had the same thing happen to me tonight. We've got a doorbell camera so I've been checking it periodically and then going out to top up the bowl. Checked the camera at 6.30 and 2 teenage girls came up and emptied the bowl into their bag! Put more sweets out but by 7pm I'd had a knock on the door with a group of little kids telling me the bowl was empty 😞 and I had to tell them I had nothing left. I haven't put a bowl out before but with having a very unsettled baby atm I didn't want to be constantly up and down.

rosyroses · 31/10/2022 19:20

Yep my bowl got nicked last year too. I was upset as it belonged to a set. I had a walk up the street in the morning and found it a few doors up.

Lesson learnt and used a disposable tray this year

Elphame · 31/10/2022 19:22

Happening in my village too. Someone just posted a ring video of some teenagers taking the lot.

Kite22 · 31/10/2022 19:24

I am more surprised, that anyone is surprised.

bluebunnyblue · 31/10/2022 19:25

We've sadly had our bowl of goodies taken by two teenage girls while we were out trick or treating. Thankfully we had reserved half the sweets so we were still able to hand them out to door knockers when we got back. Bit annoyed they took my bowl though and my 8yo and 5yo daughters are really upset! 😭

GaladrielHiggins · 31/10/2022 19:28

We went out at 6 and the first 5 houses with bowls out had all been emptied. Given that it was pissing down and there weren’t many people about I think someone has just taken the lot. Any door we had to knock on had full bowls.

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2022 19:33

People leave bowls out here and children take only one. Very few children are out without a parent or older sibling.

I did overhear some teens in one of my classes today planning to swipe any bowls they saw. I had a very strong word with them but I doubt they're truly deterred.

MeganCrossing · 31/10/2022 19:34

More fool you for leaving them all out
