To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

@Soubriquet I've seen it all now! My dog would be so embarrassed.

WindyHedges · 31/10/2022 19:19

She’s probably sick of inconsiderate dog owners who don’t pick up after their dogs.

Mine wouldn’t walk at all

I'd have put it in her bin just to wind her up

Yeah. There was a bagged dog poo rotting on the pavement a few streets from us last year, with a note under it 'whoever put it in my bin, take it home with you' or something to that effect.... I wouldn't have believed someone can fish out the bagged up shit from
their bin and actually litter their own street.

lookeelikee · 31/10/2022 19:22

Guide dogs are trained to poo in a certain location.

Think about it!!

liverpoolnana · 31/10/2022 19:22

I read somewhere that owners of guide dogs are taught how to train their dogs to go on command. I suppose to make it easier to pick it up after them? Sorry to be graphic, but after pondering how the owner would know where to aim to pick it up, I have decided that they are able to feel the heat from it?

SuperCamp · 31/10/2022 19:22

Guide Dogs are trained to poo and wee in the gutter.

I am still not clear - was the unkempt bit of grass on her neighbour's land?

Drinkinggreentea · 31/10/2022 19:24

So rude and weird. She was obviously having an awful day but that doesn't make her reaction ok. Cheeky mare.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 31/10/2022 19:24

She was spoiling for a fight, I have been in her shoes, people only pick up dog shit from my patch of land when they see me, I have sat and watched them squirm because what they really want to do is a) leave the shit, b) bag it and hang it in my and my neighbours tree or c) shout abuse that I am an animal hating weirdo.

Soubriquet · 31/10/2022 19:24

Guide dogs are intensively trained from a very young age and not every dog passes the test which means not every dog would have gone in the gutter.

Dog owners aren’t professional and most only just manage to teach them to sit

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

Sometimes you have to walk past pavements etc to get to woodlands!

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 19:27

@WindyHedges doesn't make it ok to have a go at me though does it?

I think she was dying to tell you off for not picking up after your dog, then was dismayed when you did the right thing, but decided to be arsey anyway.

A man once told me off for not picking up after my dog...but she had only done a wee. I then spent the next minute or so educating him on how bitches pee. Every day's a school day 😃

BaffledShopper · 31/10/2022 19:28

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 17:39

I'm still baffled a few hours later. She was obviously in a vile mood. I was doing the right thing and got completely vilified! I forgot to say.. at the end when she was saying it's weird you're just standing there waiting for him to finish. She said.. it's kind of disgusting! And I used to have a dog!! I was speechless!

YABU for giving this woman any more of your headspace! She was clearly bonkers, spoiling for an argument and/or having a bad day.

Jaybird43 · 31/10/2022 19:29

Put it on her car bonnet next time @WhatJustHappened321! what a bizarre woman. I’d walk by her house all the time now and wave at her!

idiotmagnet · 31/10/2022 19:29

This reminds me of when I was bollocked for litter picking outside someone's house. Literally picking up crisp packets etc from a patch of grass outside a house. Angry man flew out, saying that he bets I won't be doing it next week. I explained that I wasn't required to do it at all thank you very much, I was just doing it as a community thing. He went on an absolute rant that he bets he won't see me again, while I just carried on picking litter from the verge. I have been back to that verge since and make a point of eyeballing him through his twitch-curtains. Some people are just natural contrarians.

Cloudberries123 · 31/10/2022 19:30

Our passive-aggressive civic-minded neighbour draws circles around dog turds on the pavement with washable spray paint to highlight them. Sometimes he adds a note, eg 'This is disgusting'

😁

I have never understood why any dog owner lets their dog shit on a pavement, when mums have to push their buggies’ wheels through the remaining smear, and toddlers are likely to get it on their shoes. Why can’t you just steer the animal over the kerb edge, to crap in the road - preferably over a drain?
The angry woman you met was probably incensed by a stream of previous dog owners either leaving turds on her pavement or putting them in her bin, and wrongly assumed you were a culprit returning on a regular walk.

@Babdoc its a tad easier to steer a buggy around a Dog poo than it is to steer a dog to poo in a gutter.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 19:34

yes @Blossomtoes
i imagine it is so they dont have to provide bins

however i also heard that dog poo is bad for the environment, but i guess like you say, wild animals poo in the woods including carnivores

sunglassesonthetable · 31/10/2022 19:39

Spoiling for a fight.

You took the bullet for something else OP.

Into oncoming traffic you mean?

Do you recommend the same for foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, passing birds?

Then there are spiders and that leave those nasty poo dots on windows. Maybe they could use teeny weeny flushing loos.

I suppose the countryside needs cleaning up too really. Imagine if a tractor came out of a field after spreading fertiliser and drove along a village road - someone from the village could drive along the same road to a Waitrose car park. Next thing you know, people are tracking all those germs into Waitrose itself, homes, offices. Nightmare.

Before I had a dog I (no idea why) thought you could train a dog to go in a specific place and if I saw a dog in the street “randomly”pooing I probably would have done a very passive aggressive tut.

This is what they do with guide dogs.

DWMoosmum · 31/10/2022 19:44

Pop those raisins in a little cake to apologise to her for the inconvenience. 🤣
