To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

when mums have to push their buggies’ wheels through the remaining smear

nobody makes them push their buggies through it - they have a choice.

just like they can choose to go around piles of puke, discarded takeaways etc.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 19:52

whoever linked to that poop collecting harness, ther eis also a poop vacuum, handy for the garden it says Halloween Grin

This is what they do with guide dogs.

And guess what?

guide dogs also crap when they are out for a walk, cos despite all their training, exercise makes dogs move their bowels and when they’ve got to go, then they go.

WeisheitNurInWahrheit · 31/10/2022 20:12

Do Your Business is the usual command for (British) Guide Dogs [for the blind] to toilet - as the document I linked to says: Teaching appropriate relieving habits is one of the most important things a raiser can do when raising a guide dog puppy. A dog that relieves indiscriminately cannot become a working guide or a member of the breeding colony. Guide Dogs supplied by Blind Low Vision NZ are trained using “busy busy” for a wee & “big busy” for a poo - & they teach handlers how to pick it up. In the UK (& elsewhere) guide dog owners are exempted from having to pick up their dogs’ poo (though they’re encouraged to whenever possible) but in 2012 Leicester City Council took a really long time to rescind the fine issued to Ian Bradwell - who showed the warden his white cane when they issued the ticket…

I thought it read a bit as if she thought you should step away (or at least turn your back) to give your dog some privacy while they toileted @WhatJustHappened321 - you know, instead of your hanging around while they finished pooing. Maybe provide privacy screens?

Early this month I noticed a melting-icecream-effect poo puddle just by my front gate as I left for the hospital first thing in the morning. It was still there after several hours at the hospital & my journey home; so I’d then to clean it up (as best I could). I’ve not started accosting random dog walkers about it though, because that would be ridiculous.

dawngreen · 31/10/2022 20:15

Not every one has a car so have to walk. And some dogs will go in their garden, and some dogs require exercise before doing whats needed. You cannot make them do it like clock work. We always carry a dog bag holder, and I have lost count of the number of know it all types who start coming over mouthing I hope ur picking that up. One women came over and threw a plastic bag at us, and I threw it back lol. The face said it all as I picked up with our doggy bags, and walked off giving her a suitable look.

Should've said no, I wasn't planning on putting it in your bin, I was intending on putting it through your letterbox.

Oh I wish 😂😂

I think she was dying to tell you off for not picking up after your dog, then was dismayed when you did the right thing, but decided to be arsey anyway.

A man once told me off for not picking up after my dog...but she had only done a wee. I then spent the next minute or so educating him on how bitches pee. Every day's a school day 😃

I had similar with an idiot woman.

"Your dog HAS defecated! I'm not stupid - dogs lift their legs to pee."

DOGS do. BITCHES don't. You ARE stupid.

Our passive-aggressive civic-minded neighbour draws circles around dog turds on the pavement with washable spray paint to highlight them. Sometimes he adds a note, eg 'This is disgusting'

😁

You could remind him that it is an offence to graffiti the public pavement. It is, I believe, considered criminal damage.

This applies even when the medium is washable, such as your neighbour's washable paint, or even chalk.

See point 3.

It's always the way. The number of times I've sat up in bed thinking "I should have said XYZ! DAMN!"

But why should people with pushchairs have to be constantly vigilant about shitty smears on the pavement. You can't easily see the shit when you're keeping one eye on a toddler whilst pushing a buggy. Piles of puke? Discarded takeaway and dog shit? Why should we accept our pavements being so disgusting. Some people are just skanky I guess.

shinynewapple22 · 31/10/2022 21:59

@Somanysocks - I was joking ! I have a dog myself. But I do often think it would be better if we could catch the poo before it lands on the ground!

Bluekerfuffle · 31/10/2022 22:54

rogdmum · 31/10/2022 18:43

I sympathise OP. I once had a man come out of his house, stop and watch my dog finish his poo across the street, watch me pick up the poo and THEN shout at me, “DID YOU PICK IT UP? DID YOU PICK IT UP?”

Bonkers

I hope you went over to him, opened the bag and shoved his head into it so he could see for himself.

I'm still baffled a few hours later. She was obviously in a vile mood. I was doing the right thing and got completely vilified! I forgot to say.. at the end when she was saying it's weird you're just standing there waiting for him to finish. She said.. it's kind of disgusting! And I used to have a dog!! I was speechless!

If her bin is on a public footpath apparently you can use them

SugarNspices · 31/10/2022 22:57

I would of been removed to post it through her letter box 😂

SugarNspices · 31/10/2022 22:58

*tempted 😅

sunglassesonthetable · 31/10/2022 22:58

I always put my bagged dog poo in the public bins. Where else?

AlwaysLatte · 31/10/2022 23:21

Usually followed by 2 steps forward to produce another (but that may be just mine)
Or round in a perfectly executed circle to produce a turd Stonehenge, like mine!
Thankfully he does only go on grass (which we clear up, obviously!) so no problems but I did have a dog that would suddenly stop without any warning and do it on the footpath. I carried lots of bags and wipes so no one got it on their shoes or pram wheels.

AlwaysLatte · 31/10/2022 23:29

know two people who have trained their dogs to poo down drains so there's no picking up. No good in the park but works in the street!
That's really not a good idea - the bacteria in dogs' faeces is different and can mess up the natural chomping bugs in our drains.

We have had this too! Our female dog peed on a patch of grass quite close to another dog's waste and some nosey so-and-so got us to wind the car window down afterwards so that they could tell us off! Our dog was not um solid at the time and was on the lead so we knew they weren't hers.

KettrickenSmiled · 31/10/2022 18:12

No, because when a dog's gotta go, he's gotta go.

OP could walk him to woodlands, & he might shit en route.
She might wait until he's shat in her back garden ... he STILL might have another shit when out walking.

And sometimes we are walking to a destination that isn't in a woodland or a garden because we have places to be and clubs to get to. Dog just comes along for the wander (and cos he's got separation anxiety so I can't leave him in the house alone).

If our dog did that around here he'd be hit by an idiot driver. Someone clipped our wing mirror and when DH spoke to them (they parked close by) they hadn't even noticed.

Drodeadledbedfedheadredsaid · 01/11/2022 00:09

She is probably embarrassed as thought you were going to leave it there and fed up with people who do put it in her bin/leave it there if she isn't embarrassed then yes she's probably a bit mad or menopausal or having a very bad day. I once stuck my fingers up at someone who bibbed at me in their car whilst I was clearing up dog poo I then spent the next few months worrying I had stuck my fingers up at one of my sons parents or teacher or a colleague or client or someone who was just a saying hello!

luckylavender · 01/11/2022 06:34

@BMW6 - train it, drag it. That's what I used to do.

BMW6 · 01/11/2022 07:16

I won't be doing that to my 13 year old dog thanks 🙄
