To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

i think you can normally tell when a dog is about to poo, they dont simply squat and go, ime

Spanielsarepainless · 31/10/2022 18:14

With moronic drivers like her, crapping in the gutter is a ludicrous suggestion.

Forfukzsake · 31/10/2022 18:14

I like to meet such rudeness with a great big amused grin.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 18:15

@BMW6
probably, she was a very clever dog - i was mighty impressed.

Itisbetter · 31/10/2022 18:16

My first dog always shat in the gutter. Second dog only shits at home in a particular area unless really caught short.

witchesbubblebath · 31/10/2022 18:18

The lady sounds like my mum. She would go ape shit at unsuspecting people for no apparent reason. I strongly expect she has borderline personality disorder.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2022 18:18

Did the dog check for approaching cars first?

Or bikes.

did you train her @Itisbetter

Perhaps next time you could put the poo bag directly under his bum so he poos straight into it Grin

If only that were possible but the dog takes fright and stops mid poo. Ya just gotta let em finish.

LaForza101 · 31/10/2022 18:20

As other posters have said, she jumped the gun expecting you to leave the poo and then decided to double down in the most stupid way possible.

You'd like to think this will be one of those embarrassing moments that haunt her in the wee hours or at least it is a lesson to not jump the gun. But the really stupid have a remarkable habit of rationalising their own idiocy so she may never learn.

salcombebabe · 31/10/2022 18:21

Most dogs poo is firm therefore doesn’t leave skid marks! Obviously if they’ve got an upset tum that’s more difficult to deal with, but I always do my best not to leave any mess once my dog has poo’d.
He’s embarrassing me at the moment, as his favourite place for his first poo of the day is a car sales forecourt 🤦‍♀️ I do pick it up but I think I’ll need to carry him past this from now on!

Blossomtoes · 31/10/2022 18:22

GoodVibesHere · 31/10/2022 17:43

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

You haven’t got a dog, have you?

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 18:25

@salcombebabe thankfully my little fellas poops are dry and perfectly solid. Doesn't leave even the slightest mark!!

@aSpanielintheworks no not her house the house next door. And not on a path, driveway or any major route into the house. An unkempt out of the way little area near the main path.

Well that's not so bad then.

That wouldn't bother me but it isn't nice when people let their dogs wee up my hedges at edge as it leaves the hedges yellow brown in those areas. Luckily mine isn't so bad, but my neighbour had problems when he cuts the area by his hedge as dogs are killing off his hedge and the strummer flicks up poo bits that haven't been fully picked up.

I get fed up with people letting their dogs onto my property by the edge and wearing up my tree, or pooing at entrance to my driveway. There's woods near us, and it's a bit antisocial. I don't go out to complain of course but some dogs do ridiculous cow par poops - even if they pick up poo it leaves poo on the driveway entrance, that my children walk through into my house or into my welcome mat. That would annoy me.

And if anyone put their dog poo bag into my bin by entrance to my driveway I would be very unhappy. Take your poo bags home and put in your own bin!!! So I don't know PPs are suggesting that as it's so unreasonable. I have to clean that out and stinking poo bags sat for up to two weeks in my bin is disgusting. I had that at my last house and a dog that kept piping on my narrow pathway entrance that my buggy invariably went through with its wheels.

Luckily no one does this here ( my office over looks my driveway)

@sueelleker COMPLETELY agree with you. She was hoping to catch me out. But I was quite clearly prepared. So why start an argument?!

Some people just get to the point where the argument has to happen. Like, she's seen your dog taking a dump, and possibly there is someone around there who lets their dog go wherever and leaves it, so she assumes that's you or you'd do the same and works herself up into having a go. And then when you're all reasonable about things and a normal person would respond "oh, great, thanks" or similar she just can't control her rage and it just comes spewing out.

Wetblanket78 · 31/10/2022 18:30

Exactly this.😂😂😂

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 18:32

@Tiani4 I agree with everything you say. But I'm honestly not guilty of doing any of those things. Seems a bit unfair to be accosted in the street when I always pick up.. always take home.. and never leave a mark even. If she was having a go at someone for not doing that then I'd be right behind her! But you can't have a go at innocent people in the street just because you're pissed off at other not so innocent people!

She sounds like a loon.

I’d have been tempted to put in shit in her bin just to wind her up. (I wouldn’t, but..)

Someone once had a go at me for putting a poo bag in a bin because it wasn’t a dedicated dog poo bin. I think he regretted saying anything once I’d very politely, but patronisingly, put him right.

I would have said, of course I’m waiting for him to finish do you wipe your arse mid shit.?

🤣🤣

Itisbetter · 31/10/2022 18:37

@MrsLargeEmbodied sort of!🤣. She was a rare and wonderful girl and we were in tune. Everyone has one special dog. I think I probably did train her but I had her from a very very small pup (abandoned) and so she just learned to fit in with my life then.

Bluekerfuffle · 31/10/2022 18:42

I’m glad you snapped and she didn’t totally get away with being such an unpleasant idiot.

rogdmum · 31/10/2022 18:43

I sympathise OP. I once had a man come out of his house, stop and watch my dog finish his poo across the street, watch me pick up the poo and THEN shout at me, “DID YOU PICK IT UP? DID YOU PICK IT UP?”

Bonkers
