To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

Oh shut up. Just look away if you don't like it.

Soubriquet · 31/10/2022 18:46

Some people have un real expectations when it comes to dog poop.

Of course you’re going to stand and wait…not really worth walking off and coming back.

I also don’t take my poop home. I find the nearest public bin.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 18:48

some people stick and flick - in some local woods that is the suggestion
i dont approve

Squat

Shit

In the time you've read those two words, it's a done deal.

Usually followed by 2 steps forward to produce another (but that may be just mine)

And mine-she draws dotted lines!

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 31/10/2022 18:52

I don't understand what's wrong with putting the poo in a public bin if it's one designed exactly for that purpose? Confused

Are they supposed to teleport to the park/woodlands/approved dog toileting areas?

Dogs often need to stretch their legs, mine won’t go in the back garden unless absolutely bursting, never has. He has to have walked for a few minutes to get things going toilet-wise. I always pick up and usher him away from paths, drives or other ungated/fenced private areas that he might be tempted by. He prefers a more private spot (wouldn’t squat in the middle of the pavement for eg), when we’re in an open area, he’ll alway seek out a tree, hedge or other to ‘go’ in (yes I pick that up too).

I agree with PP, the woman was all set for a fight that didn’t happen. Rather than cooling off and being reasonable when she discovered you were being responsible and neighbourly, she doubled down. People are strange.

Caroffee · 31/10/2022 18:55

She's crazy. Sounds like you handled her well.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 18:56

in Cornwall i saw signs on the bins saying Not for dog waste

Salome61 · 31/10/2022 18:57

Too many people are crazed about dog poo and waste their time shouting at innocent dog owners. I think it's frustration they can't catch the barsteward that lets their dog poo on their lawn.

I remember standing on the edge of the pavement waiting for my dog to finish a poo and a car full of men pulled up and said 'are you going to pick that up'? I had a bag on my hand ready, so just waved it at them. Unnecessarily threatening.

Endlesssummer2022 · 31/10/2022 18:58

There are more and more people just itching for a row lately. It’s very sad.

I wouldn’t put them in a bin if it had that sign. But most public bins are suitable for waste as long as they are properly bagged

Not everyone has access to woodland.

Or a back garden.

You don't like to see it, avert your eyes.

@Massiveaggressive I know two people who have trained their dogs to poo down drains so there's no picking up. No good in the park but works in the street!

StressedToTheMaxxx · 31/10/2022 19:08

Should've said no, I wasn't planning on putting it in your bin, I was intending on putting it through your letterbox.

This is our springer, too - we joke that her bum was born under a wandering star! 😄

Irridescantshimmmer · 31/10/2022 19:08

I would have told 'vin-egar-t its' " ...and after my dog has had a poo, I am having one"

KatieBell12 · 31/10/2022 19:09

You were very restrained. I'd have told her to fuck right off.

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 31/10/2022 19:11

I reckon there's a Dragon's Den invention in here somewhere. Some kind of contraption that you strap round your dog when walking it so that a poo bag dangles under its arse.

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 19:11

@KatieBell12 if she hadn't jumped in her car and sped off I might have done!

It already exists..

I have never understood why any dog owner lets their dog shit on a pavement, when mums have to push their buggies’ wheels through the remaining smear, and toddlers are likely to get it on their shoes. Why can’t you just steer the animal over the kerb edge, to crap in the road - preferably over a drain?
The angry woman you met was probably incensed by a stream of previous dog owners either leaving turds on her pavement or putting them in her bin, and wrongly assumed you were a culprit returning on a regular walk.

Of course babdoc would be the one to defend the hateful nutter.

When a dog needs to shit, it shits. Nothing you could understand with that stick up your arse.

I sometimes find myself saying "I'm sorry you had to see that", when my lab does one of his Performance Poos right in front of someone.

The Forestry Commission requests it. I suppose because they don’t supply bins and poo bags aren’t generally biodegradable. Of course lots of wild animals shit in the woods too.
