To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

She went off half cocked hoping for a self righteous barney and made herself look daft.

Babdoc · 31/10/2022 17:53

I have never understood why any dog owner lets their dog shit on a pavement, when mums have to push their buggies’ wheels through the remaining smear, and toddlers are likely to get it on their shoes. Why can’t you just steer the animal over the kerb edge, to crap in the road - preferably over a drain?
The angry woman you met was probably incensed by a stream of previous dog owners either leaving turds on her pavement or putting them in her bin, and wrongly assumed you were a culprit returning on a regular walk.

ParsnipsAndPies · 31/10/2022 17:57

Nutters everywhere. I had another dog walker have a go at me once when our two dogs had a bit of a go at each other. Sounds fair enough, but my dog was on the lead and her dog had run over from about 50 yards away and just started going for

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 17:57

Not just mums and toddlers. Anyone! I came out of my house the other day and there was a massive one right outside the gate. Disgusting. Tbh my dog was actually completely out of everyone's way with his bum in a hedge. And his poops are like little peanuts.

Hadn't finished! G
... going for mine. She yelled at me to keep my dog under control!?

aSpanielintheworks · 31/10/2022 18:02

Was your dog pooing on her garden? Some people get very uppity about that, I know I had someone down the road from us come raging out after my dog cocked it's leg on her bush- not an awful lot you can do besides pick up any mess, nothing worse than seeing a dog being dragged off somewhere mid-poo...

shinynewapple22 · 31/10/2022 18:02

Perhaps next time you could put the poo bag directly under his bum so he poos straight into it Grin

BMW6 · 31/10/2022 18:05

Babdoc it takes a second or two for mine to squat and shit. No time to move him. He usually prefers to shit on grass, but now and then is caught short on a pavement.

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 18:06

@aSpanielintheworks no not her house the house next door. And not on a path, driveway or any major route into the house. An unkempt out of the way little area near the main path.

Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

Not everyone lives near woodlands or has a back garden.

Perhaps someone could invent an open bag on a stick that we could shove quickly under their bums without freaking them out? 🤔

It's pretty repulsive seeing dogs shit on pavements and you could easily make the dog go in the gutter.

Also I know plenty of people who wouldn't want dog shit in their bins. People who have specialist cleaners come and clean their bins for example.

So I don't think she was that weird.

LolaSmiles · 31/10/2022 18:08

Some people like to look for a fight.
It probably made her feel big and clever for a second.

£100 says she's on MN.

This

pimlicoanna · 31/10/2022 18:09

I also would have put it in her bin.. and I don't even have a dog

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 31/10/2022 18:09

People are weird. I got told off for looking at someone's horses over a gate, from a public footpath. (Actually I was standing well back from the gate as I had ddog with me and I didn't want to spook the horses.) The owner came along, and I was just about to say how lovely it was to see her beautiful horses, but she started shouting about - quote - "ignorant people like you going into my field and feeding MY horses - how would you like it if I came into your front garden and fed your dog?" Me: "Have a nice day to you too!"

BMW6 · 31/10/2022 18:09

luckylavender how does one "easily make dog shit in the gutter"?

How do you do it?

Steer? It's a dog. They don't come with wheels and how would you like someone pulling you off the loo in mid-flow? Mine does it in seconds with no real warning.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 31/10/2022 18:11

i looked after a dog who went to poo in the gutter, her owners had obviously taught her this.
clever dog,

DahliaMacNamara · 31/10/2022 18:11

Oh, I had one of those once. Came tearing out of his house when my dog stopped to sniff something and gave me a right telling off. We were on our way back from a walk, and all turdage was safely stowed away in the correct bin. He was most put out when I asked him to show me what he wanted me to pick up. Apparently I did it 'all the time'. I was only staying overnight.

BMW6 · 31/10/2022 18:12

Squat

Shit

In the time you've read those two words, it's a done deal.

Usually followed by 2 steps forward to produce another (but that may be just mine)

WhatJustHappened321 · 31/10/2022 18:12

@luckylavender .. she wasn't weird having a go at me for absolutely no reason? Whether dogs having a shit is repulsive is by the by really. Cats do it.. all pets do it. I always clear up after my dog and take the bag home with me. But in your view she wasn't at all weird for having a go at me for something I literally never do. Okaaay...

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

No, because when a dog's gotta go, he's gotta go.

OP could walk him to woodlands, & he might shit en route.
She might wait until he's shat in her back garden ... he STILL might have another shit when out walking.

clever dog,

Did the dog check for approaching cars first? 🤔
