To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

I totally agree ! I wouldn’t have liked to come out my house and see that. Can’t you train your dog to go somewhere less offensive? Your own street or a dog park or something? Not everyone wants to see that!!

Fortunately we don’t organise society around sights some people might find offensive. If your sensibilities are so delicate just look the other way.

Life is like that. No one really wants to see a dog pooing tbh. But dogs poo. Look the other way.

meganorks · 04/11/2022 12:26

I think sometimes agro folk get ready for the fight/argument and if it doesn't happen they just have it anyway! She's obviously pissed off at people leaving shit in the street and/or putting it in her bin, so she just had a go at you regardless of the situation.

ZandathePanda · 04/11/2022 12:58

Dh got someone running after him shouting that he needed to clean up after our dog (who had done a wee on a council lamppost that was on a grass verge). Dh asked ‘How?’ and the guy didn’t know how to answer but stormed off. Bizarre.

WhatJustHappened321 · 04/11/2022 12:59

@Lifeisapeach she didn't come out of her house and see anything. She saw me standing with a poo bag at the ready. My dog was out of her sight behind a rubbly bit of wall. To your point about letting him do it on my street.. surely I would have the same potential problem just with different neighbours? And there is no dog park near me.

Hmmm I can kind of understand the woman. We have a massive issue in my area of people leaving dog poo in the street. Or if not putting it into other peoples bins. It’s getting ridiculous someone put their dog waste in our empty bin the other week. DH didn’t notice when he brought the bin in and it is now squashed to the bottom of the bin and is disgusting.
I think if I came out of my house to a dog doing it’s business in front at this stage I would probably tut 😂 I’m not brave enough to start an argument. I would also probably wait to make sure it was actually moved.
Your comment about how tiny the dog poo is shows you may just not bother sometimes. I personally don’t care how small the poo is I still don’t want it outside my house for me or my DC to step in.

Does it??
That doesn't stand up AT ALL.

Someone identifying the size of their dog's poo is a sign they might not pick up after their dog? 😂

You sound a bit precious to be honest. Don't want to start an argument but want to stand and tut and passively aggressively wait to inspect the clean up operation.

You'd probably start an AIBU thread claiming to be utterly traumatised if any dog owner asked why you were staring at them and tutting.

Well aren't you a delight.

namechange085 · 04/11/2022 14:53

@fannyfartlet why? Because I don't like walking in dog crap? Having it outside my house or in my bin. What a terrible person I am 🤣

Dog owner who lets their dog shit everywhere by any chance? 😂

Yes it does because the OP actually said they don't think anyone would notice it if she didn't pick it up

You need some logic lessons, love. Just because nobody would notice doesn’t mean she doesn’t pick it up anyway.

namechange085 · 04/11/2022 15:12

@Blossomtoes the thought process and comment is there

Blossomtoes · 04/11/2022 15:17

So’s your lack of logic.

namechange085 · 04/11/2022 15:19

@Blossomtoes if something has gone through your mind it means it's been consider

Wishyfishy · 04/11/2022 15:23

I don’t think there is anything wrong about being furious about people not cleaning dog poo up @namechange085 or them putting it in other people’s bins.. but the OP didn’t do any of that?

I am not a dog lover and really really hate it when people do things with their dogs that infringe on the rest of us - off leads when they shouldn’t be, or letting them jump up all over people who are scared etc etc - but you can’t be angry at people just because their dog is pooing before you ascertain if they are going to pick it up or not..?

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 04/11/2022 15:24

There are some batshit comments on here and I find myself thinking about it every time I walk my dog on the very lovely surburban streets where I live. My dog poos on the grass verge, very often outside someone's house. Not on their property. Of course I pick it up. I have never been accosted in the street simply for letting my dog shit in the vicinity of someone's house.

Wishyfishy · 04/11/2022 15:31

And I’m really surprised by the post saying that dogs should do it over DRAINS.
I thought the fact that there are council employed road cleaners sweeping autumn leaves away from drains on an almost constant basis at this time of year is because they really, really don’t want drains to get clogged up?

Blossomtoes · 04/11/2022 16:12

@namechange085, I fantasise about putting the Tory front bench up against a wall and pelting them with rotten eggs, obviously I’d never do it.

I agree but I was just trying to think from the other persons perspective. My area has a massive problem with it atm. Constant social media posts ( not by me) literally begging people to pick up their dogs poo. It's a real issue and many people on social media complaining are not horrible dog hating people. But many are at the end of their tether that if they did come out of their house and see someone's dog they might snap and I could understand.

We might not agree on somethings but politically we seem on the same page 😂

Yes I said you had the thought process that you could get away with it not that you did it
