To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

As other posters have said, she jumped the gun expecting you to leave the poo and then decided to double down in the most stupid way possible.

You'd like to think this will be one of those embarrassing moments that haunt her in the wee hours or at least it is a lesson to not jump the gun. But the really stupid have a remarkable habit of rationalising their own idiocy so she may never learn.

Yeah this!

Mad lady, if you're reading this, we think you're 🦇 💩 Grin

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

Wouldn't fancy walking my dog in the woods at night.

Roselilly36 · 01/11/2022 18:48

People just seem so stressed with everything that’s going on atm, I wouldn’t take it personally OP.

If you have had dogs with diarrhoea crapping outside your house and the mess is walked into your carpets by children you would understand why people get upset. In France people drag their dogs into the gutter to crap.

And leave it there - and not just in the gutter.

Parisians in particular wouldn't be seen dead cleaning up after a dog.

And if a dog has diarrhoea you have as much chance of getting it into the gutter as you have from stopping a child from soiling in a similar situation. There is no control over this type of bowel movement.

snakeitoff · 01/11/2022 18:50

Oh gawd

I couldn't have a dog. They crap anywhere they like. 😷

Has anyone told the Parisians?

Hahaha! 😄

I've just said the same thing.

Place is filthy.

This reminds me of when I was bollocked for litter picking outside someone's house. Literally picking up crisp packets etc from a patch of grass outside a house. Angry man flew out, saying that he bets I won't be doing it next week. I explained that I wasn't required to do it at all thank you very much, I was just doing it as a community thing. He went on an absolute rant that he bets he won't see me again, while I just carried on picking litter from the verge. I have been back to that verge since and make a point of eyeballing him through his twitch-curtains. Some people are just natural contrarians.

Sound slime he thought you were on "community service" you Criminal!!

He's probably of the "bring back hanging for poverty stricken shoplifters" brigade.

I agree with the woman. It's so rude to just let a dog poo outside someone's house or in middle of street! Move your dog on to a better location where smears of dog poo aren't left (even after cleaning) for pram wheels, wheelchairs, shoes. Would you be happy if I blatantly let my toddler poo in front of your house?

So rude and even if you don't agree, you need to understand that lots of people aren't happy with people letting their pets poo on the pavement outside their home. Presumably your dog doesn't poo inside your house so can be trained to wait while you move it along a bit before it craps in the middle of the street.

"Letting them poo" - how much choice do you think we have when they quickly drop and go??? You haven't a clue, have you

luckylavender how does one "easily make dog shit in the gutter"?

How do you do it?

When I was growing up in the 1960s, my DF got me a little puppy which I would walk before and after school, and I was told to shuffle him into the side of the road as soon as he started to have a poo. I had no trouble doing this at all and it worked quite well. We didn't have plastic poo bags in those days.

lbnblbnb · 01/11/2022 19:07

I am NOT that woman, and not defending her, but....

someone does keep putting their dog's poo bags in our bin. I hate it: it reeks despite being in the bag, I just find it so revolting. We live down a long farm track that lots of people walk their dogs down. Our bin is very obviously a domestic bin. There are poo bins in the village, so yes they would have to carry it for a bit. If I could actually meet someone doing it, I would address it directly, but I never have. Once saw someone veer away from our bin when they saw me...

So she is batshit but might be partly driven mad by some other thoughtless dog walker.

Course they do . 🙄

jewishmum · 01/11/2022 19:14

It is disgusting having animals open their bowels in built up areas, I include horses in that despite knowing how much people love having horse poo left for use in their garden or whatever.

However it is the reality that we as a society live in, and as long as dogs are acceptable pets it will always happen because we don't all live in the countryside.

My most embarrassing was when mine decided to stop and poo mid way across the pelican crossing, so I had to stand there and wait for her to finish and debate whether I had time to pick up before we got run over. Luckily the waiting traffic thought it was hilarious and waited.

Mine did that on a zebra crossing. First vehicle that had stopped for us to cross was a full college bus.

Wheredoallthepensgo · 01/11/2022 19:19

@lbnblbnb get a bin lock?

I didn't know they existed! Off to Google....

XenoBitch · 01/11/2022 19:20

Sounds like this woman got out on the wrong side of bed and you were in her firing line.
I have copped a mouthful from someone else having a bad time too... also over dog poo. Not even my dog poo.... but she stood there and watched me pick it up anyway.

RoseBucket · 31/10/2022 17:31

I would have said, of course I’m waiting for him to finish do you wipe your arse mid shit.?

Oh my god. I had to read this one out I was laughing so much and the family wondered at what!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

AloysiusBear · 01/11/2022 19:28

Before I had a dog I (no idea why) thought you could train a dog to go in a specific place and if I saw a dog in the street “randomly”pooing I probably would have done a very passive aggressive tut.

It is grim seeing a dog shit where people will walk. While most good dog owners pick up, plenty still leave smears and it makes me want to hurl

I walked a large dog once who had diarrhea and I couldn't do anything about it, it kept squirting along the pavement. Horrific.

How do you pick up a smear?
Are you seriously expecting dog owners to carry a bottle of bleach around with them? I have seen someone on MN actually suggest just that!

Pavements are not known for being a surface you can eat food from.

thenewduchessoflapland · 01/11/2022 19:30

Someone clearly pissed on her cornflakes this morning;batshit people genuinely get offended when people let their dogs go toilet near their houses. You cleared it up;you're a decent person;I've had lazy people leave their dog turds on the pavement outside my house as they've just left it.

Annemaria · 01/11/2022 20:17

Yes, but the dog owners whose dog crapped diarrhoea on my steps could have knocked on my door and I would have hosed the steps down. The people
who walked it onto my carpets didn’t notice it. In Paris the gutters are regularly hosed down, I should know, I’ve lived there.

Babysitter12 · 01/11/2022 20:33

Calm down, there are people out there being wound up by the daily mail, don't rise to her taunts, you are better!

Southwig22 · 01/11/2022 20:38

This thread just outlines how delusional and holier than thou some people are.

Dogs answering the call of nature is not repulsive. The dog was perfectly entitled to have a poo outside, and the owner was picking it up.

I bet half the posters on here complaining about dog poo are the same people who have snot nosed kids who run around touching everything in public places, change their babies nappies on picnic tables etc... Now that's repulsive
