To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

Did the dog poo on the pavement? To be honest, if so, I'm with her on this. Someone keeps letting their dog poo on thr pavement near my house; yes they clearly it up but there are always remnants. Then my 2 year old and 4 year old walk out on the pavement to the car, and step in it. I've had bits of dog poo in my car and on my carpet so many times from dogs pooping on the pavement when people pop it in a bag but leave a bit on the pavement... it's really gross.

Notaflippinclue · 01/11/2022 21:06

After being driven out of our lovely 4 bed self build sea view home by fucking dogs barking and shitting everywhere, with poo bags hanging from the undergrowth I am totally on board with people being hypersensitive, love dogs - hate 90% of owners.

ellyeth · 01/11/2022 21:10

Some people are just naturally indignant and relish an opportunity to shout at someone. I would just say "don't be so ridiculous".

axolotlfloof · 01/11/2022 21:40

Different issue but a similar rude person.
A woman once shouted at my toddler for pushing snow off a Bush with his wellie. The Bush wasn't in her garden, and was on public land.
I assume she was having a really bad day. I am not a shouting at people in the street person, but I did have to cross the road and tell her that she shouldn't be speaking to my child like that. He literally did nothing wrong, and it didn't affect her in anyway.
Bizarre.

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/11/2022 21:45

Good!

I would have gone down her neck for something like that.

I am a pretty intolerant ole bag when it comes to kids being little buggers, hen when it's little'uns doing harmless things that help them explore the world and give them joy, then they are welcome to do it anywhere, bless them.

Pushing snow off bushes, jumping in puddles, walking on walls, chasing pigeons - all part of the joy of toddlerhood.

Mollymoostoo · 01/11/2022 22:01

One time a local resident was so impressed we were putting the poo bags in the boot of the car to take home, she offered to put them in her bin for us.
I think the woman in the OP was unhappy your dog was toileting in front of her house.

Ellyess · 01/11/2022 22:19

Happened to me too. You don't live in Sevenoaks, do you? Only people there were so ridiculous. I was training my dog, for all they knew she could have been preparing for training to be a Guide Dog. I even used to spray the pavement afterwards!

I think some people just want to be nasty, and being nasty to dog owners is just too easy.

She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!!

How would she have known? do people check what's in their bins on the offchance that some random has slung in their dogshit?

They probably smell it, or get told by the council that they couldn’t empty the bin because there were bags of dogshit in there.

I mean this woman was in the wrong, I’m not saying she wasn’t, but I can imagine getting to the end of my tether if people were putting dogshit in my bin.

Conkersareback · 01/11/2022 22:22

@eastegg they smell bagged up dog shut and the council refuse to collect?

Where does this happen?

@Mollymoostoo it wasn't in front of her house

If this was right my bin would never get emptied - we have three spaniels - those dogs can cr*p for England!

I read somewhere that a dog empties its bowels 4/day on average. In order to balance mine out, by my reckoning there are three dogs somewhere that haven't defecated since 2007.

Admittedly not so likely if it’s been bagged up properly, but if we’re talking about an antisocial person, that’s one hell of an if.

feelthebeatfromthetangerine · 01/11/2022 23:05

I've often wondered why it's not standard practice to train all dogs to toilet on command like guide dogs - but I guess even if they were all trained, you'd never be able to eliminate accidents completely, especially in very young and very old dogs.

I'd prefer it if dogs didn't crap in the middle of the payment etc, but the OP says their dog went towards the side, and also that they attempted to pick it all up. Probably all we can reasonably ask for, really. All dog shit will leave a trace, but I don't think we can ask dog walkers to carry bags and cleaning products to scrub the pavements...!

There's always going to be crap from wild animals (e.g. foxes) and birds, so with the best will in the world, pavements will always be a little bit gross, no matter how clean they sometimes look.

😂

Seriously though, you’re right that you are allowed to put bagged up animal poo in your black bin (obviously you know!), but I was talking about the scenario where wound-up woman was sick of some random chucking theirs in her bin, in which case who knows how well bagged it would be.

Buggersticks · 01/11/2022 23:26

She's utterly batshit.
I'd have left the bag on her doorstep instead....I mean she did say don't leave it in the bin, didn't she?😂

HanSB · 01/11/2022 23:47

My boy dog squats to wee, it happens with castrated dogs they don't learn to lift their leg up. I often get accused that he's done a poo when it's just a wee as they see him scuff his feet!
As a pup he used to stop bang in the middle of crossing a road to try to squat for a poo. I read it's because they like to poo in an open area because you can spot danger around easier. Anyway as I used to drag him across the road to do his business, now he only likes to poo along the curb!

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2022 23:55

My 2 late dogs didn't cock either, whether castrated or not - they were dachshunds and I think it probably just wasn't worth the bother.
But the stance was distinctly different from defecating. And the demeanour, they didn't look horribly embarrassed when weeing.Grin

Caiti19 · 02/11/2022 00:13

She clearly wasn't reasonable, but I do think poo remnants on pavements is vile. It's commonplace, but vile. It often strikes me as bonkers that anyone living anywhere, nomatter how grassless, can own a dog, knowing that the result is people walking around with animal poo on their shoes - into homes, offices, shops, into kids mouths/eyes/noses.....shudder.

None of may male dogs have ever squatted, and only two haven't been castrated. (I've always had multiple dogs - fewest was three, most six, but we did have 8 in the house because DD had her two as well), s i think individual hormone levels some into ti.

Only one that didn't leg lift (or squat) was DD's great dane. Because of their size and configuration, male danes stand to pee, like a horse. I don't know if other giant breeds do.

itsjustnotok · 02/11/2022 07:22

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain sadly some do. My bins were emptied last week. Put my first black bin in and there were a few bags of dog poo. Not the first time it’s happened. I do think it’s lazy but I would prefer it go in there rather than have it left
on my door step which has also happened a lot!.

Pavements are grubby places. Twas ever thus. And is why we have door mats and people wipe their feet. Or take off their shoes.

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/11/2022 18:12

Anyone who has tried to move a dog which is defecating will find that all they do is leave a trail of poo along a stretch of ground. Dogs' can't stop halfway any more than most people can. Once that peristaltic motion has started it is automatic and continues.

No shit that was my point…. 😑😑😑😑

Cotonsugar · 02/11/2022 08:35

I would have been speechless with this woman too. She was obviously having a bad day/something going on in her life and you were the easy target. How is it possible to not wait for the dog to finish? Can’t get my head round that one. I once had a man walk past me whilst picking up after my dog and say in a loud voice “filfy that’s filfy” (yes he missed out the t) again, what am I meant to do? Not pick up? Surely that’s “filthy”. Just a dog hater I supposed 🙄

If a dog is fed quality food there won’t be any “remnants”. We also have rain in this country which will wash away dirt, usually to the side of the road/pavement. I wash my dog’s paws after walking and always remove my shoes at the door. I don’t let visitors wear shoes in my home. There will always be dirt of some kind on anyone’s footwear, dog owner or not.
