To ask if Evri (Hermes) is the worst delivery service?

Ok, I have to know if Evri (Hermes) is the worst of the bunch. I've had two parcels get lost in the last month.

My absolutely fave is Royal Mail, but not all shops offer it. So if Royal Mail isn't available is there a lesser evil than Evri?

Think it depends on your local team, Evri have been pretty good for me. Good luck trying to get in touch with anyone though...

DotBall · 21/10/2022 12:09

Our local Evri delivery man is SUPERB. I think it really depends on you local team.

SleeplessInEngland · 21/10/2022 12:09

They've been awful with me but you usually don't know who the delivery company is until you've bought your product.

Mumnetter1234 · 21/10/2022 12:09

Nothings worse than XDP.

CookPassBabtridge · 21/10/2022 12:10

Evri in my area always been great, they leave parcels when I'm not in instead of taking them back to depot which is a pain. They've never lost anything, never been delayed.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/10/2022 12:10

God l 💕my Evri courier. She’s amazing.

l buy her Christmas present and tell her she’s wonderful all the time!

Midnights · 21/10/2022 12:11

Our local evri chap is fab, delivers and uses safe places properly, never lost anything either! Depends on who you get I imagine

LimeWire · 21/10/2022 12:11

@Mumnetter1234 I'd never heard of XDP, but the web seems to back you up 😱

It reallydoes depend on your delivery drivers. Evri is fantastic where I live. They're quick, deliver in the evenings, leave in safe places etc. Where as for me Royal mail (even without the strikes) are slow and they often won't leave parcels even with a neighbour. Which is fine, but collecting from our local delivery office is almost impossible as the opening hours have been cut back.

Swivellingbrat · 21/10/2022 12:12

Never lost anything with Evri/Hermes. My daughters retainers were nicked at a Royal Mail depot (mistaken for jewellery or a watch due to the packaging probably). I will never use them again.

saltofcelery · 21/10/2022 12:13

My local EVRI team are excellent, better than any other delivery service!

When hermes were hermes we had an incredible courier who was so good at his job. He was so lovely and friendly too. If anything went wrong he fed it straight back and came to you with a response. Sadly the bosses treated him so badly that he became poorly and collapsed after working all the hours god sends for them. Thankfully he's now much happier in a better job with better hours and work/home life balance.

We got a couple after him who weren't too bad but they didn't last long. Our round is so massive and apparently busy that noone ever wanted to do it so we ended up with people filling in when they wanted the overtime. Including one who was apparently known to have sticky fingers by colleagues and bosses but there had been no definitive proof so he couldn't be stopped or sacked according to one who used to come a little more often than most.

Selling via ebay or returning large items to amazon, we would use hermes as a pick up courier towards the end of their time and literally 4 times out of 6 they never arrived to

FlirtyMelons · 21/10/2022 12:14

DPD are the best IMO followed by Royal Mail. I have had a few issues in the past with Evri, things like them leaving it at the wrong house in their porch but putting on the notes it was handed to resident so no way of tracking it. UPS were the worst I have experienced, lied to me about the delivery numerous times, another time I was being charged customs but on the email nowhere did they say I would have to pay in advance, also why would you pay in advance until you know it was actually delivered.

AriettyHomily · 21/10/2022 12:15

Yes they are truly shit.

lentilly · 21/10/2022 12:15

Love my local evri team. There's two that do my round and they always follow the safe place instructions

Collect.

Now its evri you can't even get in touch. No live chat with humans, no social media....nothing. It's like they know they're bad but don't want to prove it so try to not allow complaints.

We never see the same courier twice now.

(sorry caught send too early )

LimeWire · 21/10/2022 12:15

That's crazy you've all had so many great experiences with Evri! It must really be luck of the draw then. I sent a parcel from my local Evri partner shop, and according to the tracking it never actually made it out from there.

Just unlucky I guess...

The bad experiences I have had have been with evri/hermes. When things go wrong they are awful. I would avoid them if I had the choice, but not all retailers have transparency on who they use until you commit to ordering which is annoying and I also try to avoid that situation. None of the local ever drivers/tem seem to stay more than a few weeks.

mondaytosunday · 21/10/2022 12:16

Hermes were the worst where I used to live and a name change doesn't change that.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 21/10/2022 12:17

It depends on the driver tbh. I’ve just got a parcel and the fella knows me, the house and where to leave a parcel if I’m not in. He’s a decent sort. I see him out and about in the area every day.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 21/10/2022 12:18

As others have said, depends a lot on where you live I think and your local team. Personally I’m always glad if somethings coming from Evri/Hermes as they’re the best courier by far here. Royal Mail have been appalling over the last few months with all the delays and disruptions. City link and UPS are probably the absolute worst though.

OneInEight · 21/10/2022 12:18

Honestly, I have had more problems with Royal Mail lately than Evri (send a lot of parcels). The feature with Evri I like is that they normally photograph where they leave the parcel so have managed to locate a couple of missing parcels like this.

No10codswallop · 21/10/2022 12:18

Absolutely abysmal service. Recently lost a Next order of mine which Next had to resend to me to their local store.

10 days later dribs and drabs of my order started arriving. Ripped, damaged, wet, smelling awful. The dates on Nexts labels were all the same and so can confirm that it was Evri who damaged them.

We have 3 drivers. One is fab, the other loses items frequently and the 3rd takes photos of his feet and the road and says "failed attempt" or whatever - even when you're home. Our village FB group is mainly Evri complaints.

I ordered a dress from Lands End which is "stuck" in the system. Lands End said they get this a lot with Evri and have resent it.

I will not buy from Vinted sellers who only offer Evri.

LimeWire · 21/10/2022 12:19

Well, fingers crossed my husband's birthday present arrives some day 😂
