To ask if Evri (Hermes) is the worst delivery service?

Ok, I have to know if Evri (Hermes) is the worst of the bunch. I've had two parcels get lost in the last month.

My absolutely fave is Royal Mail, but not all shops offer it. So if Royal Mail isn't available is there a lesser evil than Evri?

My evri courier is lovely, but the company in general is absolute shite. I currently have one package on its way to me that is just completely un-updated for the last week, and just had one return that took so long to get back to the company that I had to pay for it (BNPL)!

hiredandsqueak · 21/10/2022 15:11

I think it depends on where you live, Evri is great around here as is Royal Mail but df who lives elsewhere has no end of missing deliveries from both.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 21/10/2022 15:13

Our boy Eric is just fine.

princessrapunzel · 21/10/2022 15:14

Ive never had a issue until i moved into a new build last year, theyve lost 8 parcels in 10 months, as soon as i see that the company's using hermes/evri i expect not to recieve it.
My local delivery lady is lovely and she keeps reporting my postcode having problems but they never do anything about it and as people have said its impossible to actually talk to anyone when you have a problem.
Nightmare! I feel your pain

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 21/10/2022 16:08

Totally agree @LimeWire

THIS is the kind of shit I am suffering right now. (on attached pics.) And this has happened FOUR TIMES out of 8 packages in 7 weeks.

Why the fuck do retailers/sellers USE these jokers?

I am still waiting on 2 packages and have been waiting on one since since last Friday. This also happened to the last 2. I never got the one, and had to be refunded by the seller.

I never want to use any seller who uses Evri/Hermes, but not all the sellers tell you. When you look at 'postage details' it says 'other courier...' I now know after bitter experience that 'other courier is EVRI.'

I sent for 2 things in mid September, and the seller said they were using Royal Mail, but because of their strikes, he decided to use Evri. I groaned when he messaged me to tell me.

One came within 2 days, one took 11 days, with that shithouse message (on the attached pics,) on it... for 6-7 days 'Could not deliver, will deliver next working day.' (They didn't! It took nearly a week after getting that message.)

Several packages had been ripped open and resealed.

They are USELESS, and especially useless because there is no way to contact them! If you go on the website, you get their stupid bot. They have no twitter, and they are not on facebook.

Some people say 'oooh but MY courier is just LOVELY!' This is not about the courier, it's about the company. Once the courier gets the item it's OK. It's just getting the packages to them.

I don't know why some packages take 10 days or more, (that's the ones that don't vanish forever!) and why they sometimes come like they've been opened and resealed but I have my suspicions.

Our local driver is great, very friendly and hides parcels well if we're not in. As a company though, they are not great and have lost parcels we've sent out before.

CrochetIsCool · 21/10/2022 16:14

Our Evri courier is great and current DPD one is too.

SallyWD · 21/10/2022 16:18

I hear people sagging off Evri every day but I've never had a problem with them. They always deliver my parcels when they say they will.

LoobyDop · 21/10/2022 16:22

It’s Amazon we’ve had problems with recently. At least half the things we’ve ordered have gone missing- delivered to the wrong flat, or god only knows where. And they make it more or less impossible to report that you haven’t received something now- there’s just a “help” journey that ends in the suggestion that you go and look more carefully because things usually turn up within a month. Pretty shit when we’re paying for Prime.

WizardOfUK · 21/10/2022 16:24

They've always been great with my deliveries

luxxlisbon · 21/10/2022 16:24

Never had a problem with Hermes/Evri but at every address I’ve lived royal mail and yodel have always been awful. Luckily I barely see yodel being used as a courier these days.

MrsMAgain · 21/10/2022 16:30

I think Parcelforce is the worst these days in our area. One example being, the driver couldn't find the house (!) and they said they couldn't redeliver for 7 days. It was an item needed urgently and a fast delivery had been paid. for. They just couldn't care less.

MrsMAgain · 21/10/2022 16:40

Royal Mail at the minute though 😭parcel not delivered on Wednesday, even though I was in. It was then conveniently taken past a bunch of local post offices to the main depot 5 miles away.
Parcelforce took ours to a depot 35 miles away, again bypassing the local post office and the local delivery office. We would have a 70 mile round trip to collect it, which they suggested we should do if waiting a whole week wasn't quick enough!

carbibarbie · 21/10/2022 16:47

@LimeWire I made a thread this week about how they lost my package after admitting they had collected it from the collection point, at which point it disappeared and because I didn't get insurance they're refusing to refund me for the item! I'm so sad and angry about it!!

TheHauntedPencilCase · 21/10/2022 16:50

I'm still annoyed that Hermes lost one of my kids Christmas gifts last autumn and it was out of stock after that. Never turned up and I wanted thr item not a refund but there was that fly on the wall programme about similar, I assumed that was why they changed names. Ordered similar this year and its taken 2 weeks to arrive, just sat in their depot for ages then today an update saying it was coming by special courier due to size.....yeah its less than half the size of a similar order I got in the summer so I suspect that means they temporarily lost it again!

Daisymae55 · 21/10/2022 16:52

It honestly depends on your area.

where I live Evri are fantastic, always deliver on time and really friendly and helpful courriers (I’m often opening the door while a baby is glued to me). Royal Mail however are always late, throw parcels behind gates, losing parcels.

however where my parents live it’s the complete opposite. I had a parcel delivered to there’s as I was visiting them when it was due to be delivered and it was 3 weeks late!

it’s all luck on how that area’s team are sadly.

All our delivery drivers are good but we’re on first name terms with the Evri one !

Leakygutter · 21/10/2022 17:52

Evri is good when I'm in, which is less often lately, but I have no idea why they bother asking for a safe place to be registered when they never, ever use it.

Today I am treated to a photo of my parcel which was on my doorstep, but has now been returned to sender.

MissCrowley · 21/10/2022 17:52

Omg XDP! I'd put them to the back of my brain! 6 weeks I was waiting for a new bed, the mattress came and no frame.
Kept being told it was on the van. Turned up a month later. Sack of shit.

itsjustnotok · 21/10/2022 17:59

Evri, until this past few weeks in our area have been great. Sadly my SD sent my DD a gift. It was out for delivery at the start of the month. Then they changed the status, apologised for not being able to deliver (not a failure because I was out or anything). It went on to say that they would update when it was out for delivery again. That was 2 weeks ago and it’s still not changed status since then. You can’t talk to anyone and keep going around in circles. Terrible!

Madcats · 21/10/2022 18:04

It must be down to the local team. I've had the same courier for about 4 or 5 years. He's cheerful and polite and tends to deliver about two hours after collecting the parcels from the depot. We have an agreed 'safe location' when I am not in.

It's not unusual for me to get "next morning" delivery, so I tend to pick them over DPD/FEDEX.

Tara336 · 21/10/2022 18:05

XDP absolutely horrendous company! We bought a bed which was delivered by them. No notice of when it was coming and found it dumped outside our house at 6.30am. Half the bed was missing. XDP didn't once respond to emails or calls, luckily the company we bought from resolved it.

Wideawakeandconfused · 21/10/2022 18:07

Evi are not great but why they love for Royal Mail. It’s a complete pain as they don’t give you a time or options to leave in a safe place. We end up having to drive 40mins to the sorting office which at the moment can be closed due to strikes. Awful awful service.

Maximo2 · 21/10/2022 18:09

I ordered a pair of boots from eBay to be delivered to a local shop. What actually happened was that the Evri driver scanned mine and two other parcels as having been delivered and then just drove off with them. The shop gave me the footage (you can actually see my parcel through the window and his car reg) which I sent to Evri and the police. Neither gave a shit! I eventually got my money back through eBay and the police said because I had my refund it wasn’t in the public interest to prosecute 🙄🙄🙄
