To ask if Evri (Hermes) is the worst delivery service?

LimeWire · 21/10/2022 12:07

Ok, I have to know if Evri (Hermes) is the worst of the bunch. I've had two parcels get lost in the last month.

My absolutely fave is Royal Mail, but not all shops offer it. So if Royal Mail isn't available is there a lesser evil than Evri?

Our local Evri guy has never missed one. Yodel on the other hand I would happily pitch into the Sun.

Playing devils advocate, but surely if you order something for online you are either:

  1. in the house on the day of delivery
  2. you have an accessible safe place to leave the parcel in
  3. you leave a note on the door saying to deliver to number 14 next door

Grumbling that the delivery company is not psychic and therefore knows where to leave your parcel when you are at work/walking the dog/on holiday - take some responsibility for heavens sake.

I have registered a safe place on their website. They never use it.

My local Evri person is fab. I found that out during lockdown/working from home. Now I'm in the office, and having things delivered there, they are diabolical. Apparently, their drivers 'can't find' my central London office (that all other delivery companies find with ease). I end up getting texts asking for more information about where exactly it is.

I ended up sending photos of the outside of the building (which has the building number and street name clearly displayed). Things take about 7 to 10 days to arrive. If I can I get stuff delivered to the parcel shop up the road from my house, but lots of retailers don't offer this.

Dailymash · 21/10/2022 19:26

@Leakygutter well that is rubbish, there should be some kind of message sent to the delivery driver when they scan your parcel saying leave in XYZ safe place. Send a complaint, they’re probably unaware that the message isn’t getting through. Poor service!

In my case, I'm having my parcels delivered to a shop down the road. So I'm not missing deliveries because I'm not in. I'm missing them because they aren't getting delivered at all. Fun stuff.

Super interesting to see everyone's different experiences. I think the bottom line is it's a giant coin toss, and the best service to use is the one that's actually decent in your area.

But I'll update everyone if my husband's birthday present ever turns up...

Evri have been brilliant since they became Evri. When they were Hermes they ‘lost’ a lot of packages.

i hate dpd - but that’s because their drivers all seem to be aggressive and have road rage, and just drive like maniacs!

so I’d say, it’s who is local 🤣

KnackeredHag · 21/10/2022 20:59

Evri promises and never delivers. Always an unexpected delay. Love paying for next day delivery and getting it four days later

Ludo19 · 21/10/2022 21:03

Our Evri lady is absolutely fantastic.

No10codswallop · 21/10/2022 21:05

Our local Evri driver has just said something quite insulting on the local FB group (not to me though!)....I don't want to use him at all now but I guess I'm stuck with the dickhead if I want to get my parcels.

😔

astarsheis · 21/10/2022 21:09

Same here...had to get my money back but I really wanted the items.
However...our delivery guy is lovely but the items never made it out for delivery.

I hate online shopping at the best of times.
DPD is better and royal mail, when they're not on strike

No10codswallop · 21/10/2022 21:13

Royal Mail are amazing here. They've never failed me. Just their strikes that put me off.

MadisonAvenue · 21/10/2022 21:21

We had an excellent Hermes/Evri man up until Christmas but ill health forced him to retire. His replacements have been shocking.

On one occasion our Ring doorbell recorded the Evri courier as he stood at the end of our path, 3m away from the door with my parcel in his hand, take a photo and walk away without attempting to deliver. The app then updated to say he couldn’t deliver as he couldn’t access the property - he didn’t even have to open a gate as we don’t have one at the front!

However, we’ve had two deliveries by them in the last two weeks and they’ve been brought by a lovely lady so I’m hoping she’ll be delivering I’m future.

Amazon are pretty poor lately, they’ve started leaving parcels on the doorstep (not just here but all around our village), knocking and going without waiting to see if anyone is in.

happyfishcoco · 21/10/2022 21:21

Hermes is the worst. I have had a few bad experiences with them.
so surprised you guys have positive reviews for them.
I think it is a really lucky draw then.

they had stolen my parcel.
they had delayed the delivery date for few times. I waste my whole day waiting for my parcel in my now empty home.
they pretend they had come, many times.

Ineedsleepandcoffee · 21/10/2022 21:28

Round us Evri delivery drivers are taking mail back to the days when you knew your local postman and they were reliable. For parcels I prefer Evri to royal mail as I often have to go pick up at the spring office with Royal mail.

Plump82 · 21/10/2022 21:31

Barry my Evri delivery man is brilliant. I think other than my husband he was the one person i saw most over the pandemic!

CherryIce · 21/10/2022 21:34

My Evri courier is great!

HereComeTheGrannies · 21/10/2022 21:40

I’ve had multiple items stolen lost by Royal Mail. They’re fucking atrocious.

Hyvsvaar · 21/10/2022 21:42

Ordered from Uniqlo 2 weeks ago, parcel to arrive a week ago…nothing yet…it arrived at depot and has been delayed for 10 days!!!!

BeardieWeirdie · 21/10/2022 21:48

I’m sure I’ll win with this one…
I packed up some children’s toys to post with Evri and the box arrived, severely bashed and partly open with a fake fanny sex toy inside. It was NOT mine.

GloriousGlory · 21/10/2022 21:51

Swivellingbrat · 21/10/2022 12:12

Never lost anything with Evri/Hermes. My daughters retainers were nicked at a Royal Mail depot (mistaken for jewellery or a watch due to the packaging probably). I will never use them again.

How do you know all this?

LemonsAndCherries · 21/10/2022 21:57

Our Evri delivery man is amazing, a local hero!

TokenGinger · 21/10/2022 22:16

Our Evri chap is fantastic. He knows which of the neighbours speak to each other and if somebody isn't home, he'll knock on their houses to take the parcels in, before he'll leave it in a safe place. We've never had a missing parcel with him. He's always on time and so pleasant.

I do see lots of stories of terrible deliveries though so I appreciate ours may be in the minority.

allboysherebutme · 21/10/2022 23:01

I think DHL are worse in our area, they took three weeks to collect a returns. X
