To ask if Evri (Hermes) is the worst delivery service?

Ok, I have to know if Evri (Hermes) is the worst of the bunch. I've had two parcels get lost in the last month.

My absolutely fave is Royal Mail, but not all shops offer it. So if Royal Mail isn't available is there a lesser evil than Evri?

I have never had an issue. And we get probably 10 parcels a month, more at xmas.
Not 1 problem thankfully

Of course Evri is the worst delivery company ever. You only need to check their Instagram and Facebook pages to see that (don’t take my Word for it). Every time to post an updated, the entire comment section is filled with missing or lost parcel enquiries. They closed down their Twitter page for this reason and the have just been voted the worst by Citizens advice.

My local Evri is good I get the same delivery person.

Yodel are shocking. No order even arrives.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/11/2022 08:31

My Evri courier is amazing. She’ll even pick up stuff for drop off shops.

Outtasteamandluck · 20/11/2022 08:35

Hermes / EVRI driver is fab! She's been doing it years. Always polite friendly respectful punctual.
No issues.

BUTTT if she ever dares to take leave, the service is not great.

Staff retention / consistency is key. It all goes wrong when cover is needed.

Ladybug14 · 20/11/2022 08:39

Depends on the Evri delivery person, I think. Evri delivered something to my 'safe place'. Trouble is, I haven't set a safe place with Evri.

Thankfully there was a photo of the parcel at the 'safe place' and I wandered around our estate until I found the neighbours door step which matched the photo.

LowbrowVictoriana · 20/11/2022 08:40

Another here with a great Evri courier. Our dog loves him.
The DPD man is good, too.
The Amazon drivers are variable.

champagneplanet · 23/11/2022 22:04

Ours is brilliant, doesn't say much but he's efficient, on time and helpful. Won't leave anything if he thinks it's unsafe, he just comes back! He's mad busy too I see him around all the time. Dreading the day he decides to leave!

clopper · 23/11/2022 22:15

Our Evri courier has been doing the job for years. Always polite and punctual, so I guess it depends on who you get.

ToWhitToWhoo · 23/11/2022 22:24

I've generally found Evri OK. The worst in my own and my neighbours' experience is DX.

DPD are not bad.

Brigante9 · 23/11/2022 22:29

Bit unfair to condemn the whole company when it totally depends on the delivery drivers.

Metabigot · 23/11/2022 22:32

Worriedddd · 21/10/2022 14:54

Royal mail is the worst at the moment because of all the strikes. I've never had a Hermes parcel go missing I have them delivered to my corner shop and I collect them there. I've had a few royal mail ones never arrived or arrive 2 weeks after ordering !!!

I'm an ebay seller and I'm switching from RM to yodel now as I can't risk having to refund customers as their parcel hasn't arrived.

Cwu needs to be careful what it wishes for as these strikes will IMO result in Royal mail going down the Swanley, mass redundancies as custom moves to other couriers, and then the posties will be forced to work elsewhere with no union agreed terms and conditions spectacular own goal by their union.

Our local Evri delivery man is SUPERB. I think it really depends on you local team.

While this is true to an extent, the things that make them truly awful are company policies. No choice of delivery date. No way to alter it. You can only have delivery to a specific neighbour in your absence (no help - I don’t know who will be in on an unspecified date and time in the future). If drop shop is an option (not always available) they hang on to your parcel at the depot for DAYS to make it inconvenient (presumably they have to share profit with the drop shop). No way to contact anyone if anything goes wrong.
A nice courier is not really that helpful in the light of all that.

Anniecott · 23/11/2022 22:33

Nope, Royal Mail. They lost a pair of trainers I ordered, so I had to reorder them, they have now lost that parcel as well 😩

OnTheBoardwalk · 23/11/2022 22:36

I do think it depends on the driver

all delivery firms should be able to be contacted easily by the person expecting the delivery and tell them what they are doing about their lost parcels

Playing devils advocate, but surely if you order something for online you are either:

  1. in the house on the day of delivery
  2. you have an accessible safe place to leave the parcel in
  3. you leave a note on the door saying to deliver to number 14 next door

Grumbling that the delivery company is not psychic and therefore knows where to leave your parcel when you are at work/walking the dog/on holiday - take some responsibility for heavens sake.

1 You don’t know the date of delivery when you order. How on earth could you?

  1. No, not everyone has a safe place - people live in flats and terraced houses. Shouldn’t be beyond delivery companies to work with that.
  2. They won’t deliver like that you have to tell them in advance. And when I don’t know what time they’ll come (it’s a whole day with Evri, not a slot) how do I know which neighbour might be in when? Not to mention the security issues of labelling your house as being empty of people right now.
allboysherebutme · 23/11/2022 22:45

My Evri courier is lovely, I find DHL worse
Sometimes take weeks to get a parcel. X

Iheartmysmart · 23/11/2022 22:51

My Evri courier is great and I’ve never had an issue with them. Royal Mail have failed to deliver 4 parcels now within the 24/48 hr tracking period, UPS don’t even ring the doorbell they just take parcels directly to the pick up point, DPD are always reliable.

LimeWire · 24/11/2022 08:02

Brigante9 · 23/11/2022 22:29

When I posted this thread, I didn't know it was dependent on the drivers. But now I know that it's not a company-wide thing -- it's localised service.

Royal Mail is the worst. DP's cousin had a holiday in the US and got presents for all of us including some pretty valuable items and sent them via recorded delivery 5/6 weeks ago from her home in the lakes to us in the southwest, she's phoned to find out where the hell our package is and was told we'd have it by yesterday - still no package! The things I ordered for Christmas from Amazon on Tuesday afternoon were delivered by Evri yesterday!

Cedilla · 24/11/2022 09:16

We had a really good Hermes/Evri lady who knows exactly where our rather tucked-away location is (I’m thanking our neighbours for that, as they seem to have at least a delivery a day) and is really reliable.

Unfortunately she went MIA just as I ordered a desirable electrical item that arrived faulty and had to be replaced. Delivery was on a specific day and despite us being in literally all day it just never arrived. We then got a message saying they’d tried to deliver but 'nobody was at home'. Lie.

Delivery was supposed to be re-attempted two days later and again they ‘couldn’t deliver' for unspecified reasons. Then it all went silent and there’s zero way to contact them. Even the retailer couldn’t get an answer as to where my parcel was. So a second replacement was sent out and I had to get it sent to a parcelshop and go to collect it myself rather than risk a repetition.

Presumably someone's enjoying using my £100 item now. The retailer's an extra £100 down. I hate Evri with a passion, and then they had the sodding cheek to email me a survey saying 'We're listening!'

Complete crooks.

Muddywoof · 24/11/2022 09:27

I must be very unlucky, lived in three different places recently and all of our Evri delivery people were bad. One liked leaving things in the bin at the end of the garden, unless it was raining, then it was left on the doorstep in the open.
The other... he was okay but really really angry all of the time. He actually knocked and waited but looked at me like he wanted to kill me whenever I answered and never said a word.
The one now leaves it on the doorstep, doesnt knock so that we know, and the parcels are ALWAYS open or ripped in to so they can see what is in it.

Oh also in the first house, they tried to deliver three times in one day, only they posted all of the slips (saying they would try again the next day) at the exact same time and didn't knock so even though I was in, it was send back to the sender.

So I'm not a fan.

Cedilla · 24/11/2022 09:35

Oh, bad luck, Muddywoof

We never got as far as an actual bit of paper through the door, so I suspect their claim that nobody was in meant they’d not even been anywhere near the house.

The retailer tried to make excuses for them by saying Evri couriers had a limited number of reasons to choose from when they couldn’t deliver, and they might have just been too busy to bring the parcel that day after all. So why not add 'ran out of time to deliver' to the list of reasons, then! It can’t be that hard! Lying about it just makes people more angry, surely?

Lozzybear · 25/11/2022 14:56

@Brigante9 it’s not just the delivery drivers, it’s also the depots. I’ve got a parcel stuck at their local delivery depot since 15 November. The retailer sent another one out yesterday, it quickly arrived at the depot but today I’ve had a message from Evri saying that it’s delayed. Who knows if that one will arrive either. My DH also ordered a parcel at the beginning of this week for delivery by Evri. He’s had the same message re it being delayed.

dameofdilemma · 26/11/2022 13:21

Evri is by far the worst for us (south London) - lost parcels, parcels stuck at depots for days, no updates on tracker.
I’ve stopped ordering online from retailers that use Evri as a result.

Had no issues with DPD, Amazon, DHL or even Royal Mail (post pandemic).
