Dear Lord above, I've seen people removed and banned from pubs for less. She's the Home Secretary. What have we come to?

Bit of context, perhaps?

DismantledKing · 19/10/2022 10:36

It’s a very shallow talent pool.
she is fucking horrible though.

SleeplessInEngland · 19/10/2022 10:37

She's a culture-war dickhead who's 5 years too late. People care about the economy now, not Guardian readers.

newnamethanks · 19/10/2022 10:39

Can someone link her rant please? Can't do on my phone, sorry.

Do you mean her comments in the Commons about the "Guardian reading, tofu eating wokerati"?

newnamethanks · 19/10/2022 10:50

More precisely, her complete rant in the HOC, as reported in the Guardian. She's the best we've got along with Liz, Kwarteng, Cleverley and Co. She is a DISGRACE as her friend Liz might say.

I've tried really hard to see any evidence of intelligence from her, and I really can't find any.

She is a big fan of making statements without any evidence whatsoever, the sort of statements I'd expect from rabid conspiracy theorists in the comments sections of local news Facebook pages. How did she get this job??

bellachowbellachow · 19/10/2022 10:53

Sue Ellen's rant (apparently her teachers renamed her as Sue Ellen wasn't posh enough )

DontSpeakLatinInFrontOfTheBooks · 19/10/2022 10:56

Suella Braverman is an odious twat. She’s not ill, she’s just horrible, stupid and basically totally normal for a Tory front bencher. And back bencher too when you think about it.

I hope the lot of them get absolutely shat on at the next GE.

PMSL at "coalition of chaos" and "anti growth coalition". It's not a "coalition " of anyone Suella, it's one party: the CCC.

The Chaotic, Corrupt Conservatives.

pointythings · 19/10/2022 11:06

She's just another typical Tory politician. Of course the strikes and chaos can't in any way be the fault of their policies! We should all just tug our forelocks and accept what our betters decide should happen. If that means we get poorer, we can always send our kids down the mines, can't we?

Her words are a measure of Tory desperation. We need a general election.

LizzieSiddal · 19/10/2022 11:08

Yvette Cooper’s response was magnificent. I want her as our next Home Secretary. Well I’d rather like her as PM but that won’t happen.

I was expecting an actual rant

hyperbole again

I wouldn't have phrased it that way - i like tofu! - but I know what she means.

Given the intent was purely to sow division, how would you have phrased it?

blackpearwhitelilies · 19/10/2022 11:14

It was a rant. She might not have shouted it, but the content was full-on rant and designed to stoke division and fuel culture wars. The impact of this is corrosive and insidious, so I don't think that the OP's reaction is hyperbole at all. If Starmer stood up and said he was acting deliberately against Daily-Mail- reading, ignorant gammons, he'd be torn to pieces for it. This is no different, except we've had years of Johnson making inflammatory comments and the press and his acolytes minimising the effects.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 19/10/2022 11:14

Accusing someone of being a Guardian reading tofu eater is such a quaintly late 90s insult. And she was probably so proud of it too.

You need to up your game, Sue. It's one thing being a nasty little lightweight politician. But you're also boring.

She was reading from a script, so had carefully written out the insults beforehand, which does suggest she was proud of them. Pathetic.

TheGhostOfLiz · 19/10/2022 11:22

It's not acceptable for a government elected to represent all people, to then belittle or insult categories of those people.

Regardless of whether they voted Tory or not, she is there to represent and serve them.

Regardless of what she thinks of people who read The Guardian, of people who vote Labour or LibDem or who eat bloody Tofu: she is their servant. She should be 'on their side' as a politician for the whole country.

That she does not 'get' this, shows how woefully unqualified she is for her post

we are being targeted by groups determined to disrupt for the sake of disruption. That's what these groups are about. Usually rich attention seeking wankers who probably have shares in oil. The only eco warriors I ever meet in London are hooray henrys on a day out.

I dislike all the left/right fights.

I didn't hear her say anything about strikers, I totally support the strikers.

A total hypocrite, immigrant background and then went to a Paris University under the Erasmus program..... campaigned for Brexit which removed that option.

Awful woman, a female Trump, makes Patel seem completely rational and normal.

It feels like forever since we've had a calm, civilised politician - but it was Corbyn. I also liked him bringing people's questions to PMQs.

I think "rant", "shout" and "scream" are used wrongly a lot.

Similar to Truss in that they're both 97% raw ambition and 3% talent.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 19/10/2022 16:31

Suella Braverman is leaving the cabinet.

EsmeShelby · 19/10/2022 16:33

She's resigned. Something about security. None of them are fit to govern
