Dear Lord above, I've seen people removed and banned from pubs for less. She's the Home Secretary. What have we come to?

I heard a Red Wall MP on Today programme, don't know who, they're a mass of unknowns, say that the Red Wall voters will never support Sunak so it's got to be Boris. I wonder why that would be? I suspect, like Brexit, it's not an opinion based on logic but something a lot more basic.

It's the same reason why Kier Starmers front bench and especially those around him at PMQ's are all white.
All the black and brown faces have been pushed 2 or 3 rows back.
Starmers is very astute and he needs those red wall voters.

newnamethanks · 22/10/2022 12:50

There's that, vera99, and it also meant "I'll lose my effing seat! I would never have been elected without Boz". Lovely living in a mature democracy, isn't it.

Scraping the bottom of the barrell, Mobiledesktop, not everyone shares your dubious perception of others motivation.

OP posts:
Mobiledesktop · 22/10/2022 13:12

And yet you question the motivation of Conservative voters.
Does you're hypocrisy have any bounds?

newnamethanks · 22/10/2022 13:22

Nice try. I rarely question the motivation of Conservative voters. Self-interest covers it.

Kemi 'Government cannot function' Badenoch resigned 6 weeks ago as part of Johnson Government and then it was yes please to cabinet position with Truss. Self interest for Tory MPs AND voters really does cover it...

You have a very short memory. It’s only a couple of days since I reminded you that Lammy’s the shadow foreign Secretary when you used exactly the same sentence. It appears the bots are lazy as well as inaccurate.

pointythings · 22/10/2022 15:04

@Blossomtoes they're still pushing the 'Tories are so diverse' narrative and making out we must therefore vote for them. And then go on about Angela Rayner being a 'diversity hire' when the entire diverse Tory front bench are fucking incompetent. Talk about wanting to have their cake and eat it...

I know. We’re probably going to get the tired old lie about knowing what a woman is next.

Mobiledesktop · 22/10/2022 15:17

1 Cabinet member! Who doesn't sit anywhere near Kier during PMQ'S. Considering how diverse the parliamentary Labour party is.
Come on, even you have it admit he's whitewashing the Labour party for electoral purposes.
I'm sure they'll be plenty of BAME ministers when he does his first reshuffle.

Where’s the logic in that when Johnson won a 70 seat majority with an ethnically diverse top team? Maybe, just maybe - and I appreciate this is an alien concept for a Tory - Starmer has selected his shadow cabinet on the basis of their talent and intellect.

ToooMuchToDo · 22/10/2022 15:22

I love the bit where she talks about members of the opposition, but has clearly had too much gin, so says 'members of the .. oppos ..other. er.. the other place ..." 😵‍💫🍷

Bless her evil cotton socks

Justkidding55 · 22/10/2022 15:23

What fascinates me about her is that if you really watch her she has so many expressions and mannerisms of Katie Hopkins. Its
like she’s modelled herself as an indian Katie hopkins. She’s awful!

ToooMuchToDo · 22/10/2022 15:23

I think 'Cruella' is more fitting ..

Mobiledesktop · 22/10/2022 15:34

"Maybe, just maybe - and I appreciate this is an alien concept for a Tory - Starmer has selected his shadow cabinet on the basis of their talent and intellect."
Based on the members of the shadow cabinet , I don't see how that's possible.
It's clearly a race issue and if anything it shows just how ruthless Starmer is. You need to be ruthless at the business end of politics.

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 15:39

You’re just talking bollocks @Mobiledesktop - and contradictory bollocks at that. I refer you to your libellous and untrue comments about Rayner which are completely the opposite of your most recent allegation. Why am I arguing with a bot, ffs?😳

Mobiledesktop · 22/10/2022 15:45

I think you'll find your the own talking absolute bollocks, as well as cringingly trying to defend a fairly racist move.

pointythings · 22/10/2022 15:56

Come on, @Mobiledesktop , which is it? Are you really saying that Keir's Starmer's front bench consists entirely of 'diversity hires', i.e. people planted to win votes, whilst at the same time the Tory front bench consists of brilliant, talented, competent, honest people without a glimmer of corruption in their hearts? I mean, you can say that, but it's going to show you up for what you are: a blind Tory loyalist with no grounding in reality.

Mobiledesktop · 22/10/2022 16:26

The Conservatives are a shambles at the moment, at every level. I don't slavishly follow a party unlike most on Mumsnet.
Labour needs the red wall voters to win the next election. Many of these people who voted Brexit think that mass immigration into the UK has been a disaster.
Kier recognizes this and has created a cabinet to appeal to disenfranchised working class Labour voters ( the ones who voted for Brexit) .
It's incredibly cynical but I think it will work.

newnamethanks · 22/10/2022 16:31

Maybe you'd like to mention that you have a Black Friend Mobiledesktop . I fully expect you have.

OP posts:
pointythings · 22/10/2022 16:34

I don't think it's cynical at all. It's nothing the conservatives haven't done. Why is the left always held to a higher standard than the right?

Personally if I had a vote (I don't, I'm an EU immigrant), I'd vote Labour simply because we need a change. FPTP gives us no other options. I can only hope that once we have a change of rule, the pressure from the public for a change to PR becomes so immense that it will have to happen. Anything else just perpetuates a dysfunctional system that isn't particularly democratic.

More precisely, her complete rant in the HOC, as reported in the Guardian. She's the best we've got along with Liz, Kwarteng, Cleverley and Co. She is a DISGRACE as her friend Liz might say.

Agree. But if Boris Johnson or another male MP had said this would it be dismissed as a "rant". He does not set any bar if acceptability. But let's be aware that there is some sexism when judging her for the tone of her voice rather than the content. Unfortunately, in the piece I saw, there was no context on what "it" was or what she was arguing against. And to be able to criticize her, as she surely deserves, we should look at the content of her argument.
