Dear Lord above, I've seen people removed and banned from pubs for less. She's the Home Secretary. What have we come to?

British politics right now makes me feel like I've come into a TV series where I watched the first season so I know the basic premise and some of the characters, but I missed seasons two and three and so nothing makes any sense apart from the fact that the setting is the same and some of the faces are recognisable.

😂

Actually, have no idea why I'm laughing, this is turning in to one freaky nightmare and I can't find the door to escape...maybe I need to send a work email from my yahoooooo acount...

Diamondsareforever123 · 19/10/2022 17:03

To be blunt she's a fascist. She's been booted out now by Hunt. Thank God.

Why she's gone: "I sent an official document from my personal email to a trusted parliamentary colleague as part of policy engagement & with the aim of garnering support for government policy on migration. This constitutes a technical infringement of the rules."

But here's the political bombshell: "I have concerns about the direction of this government. Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this Government's commitment to honouring manifesto commitments...

such as reducing overall migration numbers and stopping illegal migration, particularly the dangerous small ...boats crossings."

She's an active member of a weird Buddhist cult started by a sex pervert (now dead) whom the organisation still laud as venerable. They also have a weird festival called Buddhafields where a lot of folks walk around naked. I've met some of them - very creepy.

Braverman is a member of the Triratna Buddhist Community (formerly the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order) and attends the London Buddhist Centre monthly. She took her oath of office on the Dhammapada.

Braverman goes on:

"The business of government relies upon people accepting responsibility for their mistakes. Pretending we haven't made mistakes, carrying on as if can't see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics"

Sue Ellen's rant (apparently her teachers renamed her as Sue Ellen wasn't posh enough )

I loved Yvette Cooper’s response

A total hypocrite, immigrant background and then went to a Paris University under the Erasmus program..... campaigned for Brexit which removed that option.

Awful woman, a female Trump, makes Patel seem completely rational and normal.

No, she doesn’t make that awful Priti Patel seem normal

Ms Braverman said she "sent an official document from my personal email to a trusted parliamentary colleague... As soon as I realised my mistake, I rapidly reported this on official channels, and informed the Cabinet Secretary"

She got herself fired??

Yvette Cooper’s response was magnificent. I want her as our next Home Secretary. Well I’d rather like her as PM but that won’t happen.

God help women's rights if the disingenuous Yvette Cooper ever gets her hands on power.

Really surprised the press hasn't picked up on this that I can see. When I read her wiki and picked that up alarm bells rang.

How did Yvette Cooper vote last night - was she in favour or against buffer zones protecting women attending abortion clinics?

there's a time when that would have been a BIG deal.

CPL593H · 19/10/2022 17:12

This is from Wiki (I know) -

"Braverman departed from the role of Home Secretary on 19 October 2022 after an "honest mistake" involving sharing secure information on a private phone"

Sky is now saying this-

"Suella Braverman resigned Liz Truss's government after sending an official document from her personal email in a breach of the security rules for government.
In a resignation letter sent to the prime minister on Wednesday, Ms Braverman said: "I have made a mistake; I accept responsibility; I resign."
She also expressed "concerns about the direction of this government".

You can't dignify it with the word shambles, can you?

Ok so we need some background here.

Tonight there is a vote on fracking. Its been turned into a confidence vote.

In the last couple of minutes this has also gone on...

Chris Skidmore AT CSkidmoreUK
As the former Energy Minister who signed Net Zero into law, for the sake of our environment and climate, I cannot personally vote tonight to support fracking and undermine the pledges I made at the 2019 General Election.

I am prepared to face the consequences of my decision.

Aubrey Allegretti AT breeallegretti
Woah - a senior Tory MP suggests they’re happy to lose the whip for voting against what the govt is treating as a confidence motion.

Does that open the door to others following suit?

Two hours to go until the vote

My twitter is exploding with other stuff quicker than I can type atm!!

CPL593H · 19/10/2022 17:13

Apologies, miss the fact resignation letter had been posted, thanks @RedToothBrush

If you miss an episode your’re completely lost. And there’s so much happening you can’t compute it all. Must be the Russians😂

👀Extraordinary moment in the House of Commons💥

William Wragg confirms he's sent a letter into Graham Brady - and that he HAS to vote with the government on this afternoon's fracking motion, against his wishes. So that he doesn't lose the whip. And so his letter still stands.

Aubrey Allegretti AT breeallegretti
Tory MP Will Wragg confirms he's submitted a no confidence letter in the prime minister.
Says he will vote as told in tonight's "confidence vote" on fracking because he doesn't want his letter to lapse.

If he loses the whip, he can't vote to get rid of Truss cos he's no longer a Tory!

This is beyond farce.

Phrenologistsfinger · 19/10/2022 17:17

Unhinged, power crazed and also very confused. She is/used to be veggie herself and has eaten tofu loads!

vera99 · 19/10/2022 17:18

Our government has become a huge, abominal, destructive farce probably without equal in the developed world. They need cleaning out and a quick general election now, please.

Understand that the background to the Braverman resignation was the mother of all rows about migration. Told she was under pressure from Number Ten to announce liberalising migration plan which would make it easier for OBR to say Gvt would hit growth target.
