To think they've made a mess of my DD's hair? Pics included

DD (3.5) had lovely long dark hair which almost reached her bum, she loved it long as she said it made her feel pretty. She loves me styling it in different ways, fish tail plaits etc.

Her fringe was getting too long and the ends needed a trim so OH took her to the hairdressers this afternoon. I told him to make sure they don't take off any more than 2 inches.

This is what she came home like, see pictures attached.

DD is upset and is adamant she hates it dispite me trying to reassure her that she looks beautiful and that her hair will grow back longer and stronger.

I'm really upset about this, largely because DD is upset but ffs just look at it. It isn't even straight.

I'm sorry but you need to return. That's a shocking hair cut, no wonder she's upset.

What a nasty response.

That’s awful - I’d take her back and show them it’s not even straight. I could cut it better than that with a pair of toenail scissors.

Flowerpower36 · 13/10/2022 18:04

Oh no, I’m sorry, that’s not good.

please don’t go back to the same place and ask them to correct it, though. They will only chop more hair off and there’s no guarantee they will do a better job this time!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 13/10/2022 18:04

Bloody hell. That’s horrendous

hopeishere · 13/10/2022 18:04

That's terrible. It's not even straight!

scott2609 · 13/10/2022 18:04

Yanbu! It looks like a home haircut gone wrong, absolutely insane that a qualified hairdresser thought that was acceptable.

It does at least look like it can be easily neatened and made right, but that more will unfortunately need to come off first. It’s a difficult one though- will she be more upset and think it looks horrible if she gets it cut again to neaten it?

Deguster · 13/10/2022 18:05

Are you sure your OH didn’t pocket the haircut money, spend it on ale and cut her hair after?

That is piss poor. Poor DD. YADNBU.

Fluffygreenslippers · 13/10/2022 18:05

Holy shit that’s awful. You should go back & complain.
This happened to me when I was a kid, had lovely long hair, went in for a trim and they cut it into a jaw length bob! I cried for days. My mother was livid and refused to pay.

MylittleDD · 13/10/2022 18:06

It looks like they've done it with safety scissors. I've arranged for her to go back tomorrow morning and have it rectified but I'm not sure I even want them to touch it after the mess they've already made of it. I'm considering asking for a refund and then taking her elsewhere.

secretsecret · 13/10/2022 18:06

Yeah I'd be of the opinion that my DH had done that, if it were me!

petpig · 13/10/2022 18:06

By all means complain but I wouldn't let the same hairdresser touch it

MomwasCasual · 13/10/2022 18:06

Well she does have gorgeous hair but ye gods, was the chair on a bloody slope?!

I'd complain but see if there is a different stylist who could correct it with the minimum cut off needed. Not the one who did it!

Elwynsmum · 13/10/2022 18:06

That is a shocking haircut! Before you go back to complain do check with her father, though! Did she sit still or make it difficult? Also, try to help her get it in perspective. It is just hair! (I may have a suspicious mind, by chance dh tried to do it himself?!)

NoSquirrels · 13/10/2022 18:06

Did he take her to a proper hairdresser, one who understands small kids don’t always sit still?

Or did he take her to the local barber he uses, who probably aren’t skilled at long hair?

That’s an awful cut - the person who did that should be ashamed of themselves. Can someone else in the salon sort it for you?

Remainiac · 13/10/2022 18:06

Clearly the “no more than 2 inches” message got lost in translation! What a mess. She’s got such lovely thick hair and it’s a beautiful colour too. At least you know it will grow back but that ragged edge needs some work. I wouldn’t take her back to the same place though, she’ll be a skinhead by the time they’ve finished.

SirChenjins · 13/10/2022 18:07

I quoted that weird post in error

dontgosummer · 13/10/2022 18:08

Did your husband blindfold himself and get the gardening shears out ?

So sorry OP , that is dreadful , please keep these pics and return to hairdressers to complain

Hope she is ok ?

Sunnyqueen · 13/10/2022 18:08

Omg that's awful. Sorry but I knew when you said your oh took her it would be bad - not that bad though!! I learnt early on not to let my kids take them for haircuts 🥴

SirChenjins · 13/10/2022 18:08

A refund would be the better option - I don’t think I’d trust them again

EasterIssland · 13/10/2022 18:09

Was it the first time taking her to that place ? It’s awful what they’ve done

Untitledsquatboulder · 13/10/2022 18:09

It'd not "horrendous", she doesn't look horrendous but it's not a good cut and needs sorting.

But maybe it's not such a good thing that she's already so invested in her hair being her "beauty" at such a young age. I'm sure she's just as beautiful with shorter hair

BreakfastClub80 · 13/10/2022 18:09

That is a terrible haircut, really shockingly bad.

On the positive side, once it’s straightened up, it’s quite a nice length for a young girl. I would suggest to your DD that you can now try different styles and have some fun with it (eg space buns) to help her feel good about it again.
