To think they've made a mess of my DD's hair? Pics included

DD (3.5) had lovely long dark hair which almost reached her bum, she loved it long as she said it made her feel pretty. She loves me styling it in different ways, fish tail plaits etc.

Her fringe was getting too long and the ends needed a trim so OH took her to the hairdressers this afternoon. I told him to make sure they don't take off any more than 2 inches.

This is what she came home like, see pictures attached.

DD is upset and is adamant she hates it dispite me trying to reassure her that she looks beautiful and that her hair will grow back longer and stronger.

I'm really upset about this, largely because DD is upset but ffs just look at it. It isn't even straight.

Did he actually take her to a hairdressers?

BadNomad · 13/10/2022 19:10

I think he took her to the pub and let Drunk Stella do it with the kitchen scissors.

Iwonder08 · 13/10/2022 19:10

Why are you not furious with your OH? Why didn't he interfere when they were chopping it off? Why didn't he say something at the hairdressers that the haircut is very uneven parking aside too short?

None of my children male or female would have given a shit at 3.5 about their hair being cut wonky. They wouldn't even know! They're not checking it in two mirrors! They certainly wouldn't think things like it makes them feel pretty. That's really depressing and this whole post tells a lot about where you are teaching your daughter her value lies.

Yes, it's wonky. Yes your husband is stupid for paying. No, that's not the most depressing thing about this post

My 3.5 year old DD would absolutely know, and be upset.

OP is there one of those childrens salons near you? Take her for a proper pamper to cheer her up.

Istolethecookies · 13/10/2022 19:12

That is shocking... I cut my 2 DD's own hair 2 and 4 years old, no experience, just followed youtube tutorials and it looks a hell of a lot better than that. I wouldn't even want to go back to complain, because they'll just say they'll redo it and end up hacking more off... I would try and straighten it out yourself. Also, maybe put some hair tinsel or some of those kids coloured extensions in her hair, might cheer her up a bit?

Geranium1984 · 13/10/2022 19:12

She has such beautiful think, shiny hair. I can't believe they can't even cut it straight.
I'd take her somewhere else to tidy it up and be the one to take her to the hair dresser from now on!

DappledThings · 13/10/2022 19:14

If the hair was down to her bum, she’s lost loads of length
I'm not disputing she's lost lots of length, but it's still pretty ongoing so there's still enough length there to tidy it up

Oh give over.

My DD loves all things Disney, particularly Rapunzel and Elsa.

I have an inverted bob hairstyle myself. I like short hair. DD however does not.

I posted too soon.

It isn't the wonkiness that bothers her, it's the fact they've chopped off so much of her hair.

Did the salon have a website or place to leave feedback and pics? That's just so awful i think it's worth the public complaint.

Theluggage15 · 13/10/2022 19:18

Did your husband say just tidy the ends? Why didn’t he say anything at the time?

diddl · 13/10/2022 19:19

Is it possible that he asked for it to be cut to that length?

Shocking cut though-I do my own & get it straighter than that!

diddl · 13/10/2022 19:21

What's the fringe like?

Whinge · 13/10/2022 19:21

Have you spoken to your OH about what happened at the hairdressers? If your OH went in and said no more than 2 inches there's no way they would have cut so much off.

I think your DD or OH asked for more to be cut off when they were at the hairdressers, perhaps DD wanted shorter hair but your reaction to the haircut has made her regret the decision.

So about OH..

He said the hairdresser told him she would need to take off 'a little bit more' than the 2 inches requested as DD had "split ends going higher up" whatever that is supposed to mean.

He thought the hair looked nice and apparently didnt realise how uneven it was.

I'm definitely annoyed with him.

I've told DD her hair looks wonderful and how it will grow back so much stronger now she has rid of the ends, she's not convinced. I'm sure she'll forget all about it in a couple of days. Bless her.

@MylittleDD I hear you on the focus your DD puts on her hair length. The last time I took my daughter for a haircut (the one whose head swivels around when she's in the chair Grin) I asked them to take about 3 inches off it as it was getting sticky during the day from arts and crafts and food.
She told me she wasn't getting out of bed the next morning until it had grown back.
It was a fun start to the day and involved a lot of cajoling and bribery from me to get her going.

Ladgrags · 13/10/2022 19:22

Goodness me. Did they use their teeth?! Poor DD. I’d go back, ask for a refund, then take her somewhere else to tidy it up. Do not let that hairdresser touch her beautiful hair again!

thisisthestoryabout · 13/10/2022 19:23

I'd take her back to the salon but I wouldn't let the same stylist rectify it! They need the manager or a senior stylist to do it!

Theluggage15 · 13/10/2022 19:25

I can understand her being upset about the length, things like that can matter to little girls. She has lovely hair, wonky or not.

Lu901 · 13/10/2022 19:26

Had so many disasters like this growing up and to be honest the hair dresser will defend themselves till the end of time. The split end thing... More like the trainee can't cut a straight line and trying to even it up and it's gone to far.

I'd get money back but if there's a commotion then share this on their socials.

Emmelina · 13/10/2022 19:27

Wow, it looks like they just tied it back, lopped off the ponytail and let it loose again without a tidy up after. It definitely needs fixing!

OP I am a hair stylist and this is shocking . Make a complaint get your money back and take your DD to a stylist that has experience working with children. and get the the bitch sacked !

AnApparitionQuipped · 13/10/2022 19:34

It's clearly wonky but the only way to correct it would be to cut it shorter.

TempName01 · 13/10/2022 19:37

i honestly can’t believe a hairdresser did that, are you SURE your DH took her to the hairdresser? This is like something a MIL would do, I know several MILs who have chopped my friends’ DDs hair or fringes and butchered it.
