To think they've made a mess of my DD's hair? Pics included

DD (3.5) had lovely long dark hair which almost reached her bum, she loved it long as she said it made her feel pretty. She loves me styling it in different ways, fish tail plaits etc.

Her fringe was getting too long and the ends needed a trim so OH took her to the hairdressers this afternoon. I told him to make sure they don't take off any more than 2 inches.

This is what she came home like, see pictures attached.

DD is upset and is adamant she hates it dispite me trying to reassure her that she looks beautiful and that her hair will grow back longer and stronger.

I'm really upset about this, largely because DD is upset but ffs just look at it. It isn't even straight.

OP posts:

DH once took DD for a hair cut-she has really curly hair. The person who cut it clearly wasn’t used to cutting really curly hair and made it into a box by cutting short layers in (And a fringe😱)

RobertaTheRobot · 13/10/2022 18:39

I could do a better job drunk, blindfolded and using kids safety scissors.
This can't be done by an actual hairdresser surely?!! Are you sure DH didn't have a go himself with the kitchen scissors and have to keep going shorter and shorter and then admitted defeat and gave up, but wouldn't admit it to you?

Lulibee · 13/10/2022 18:40

That is shocking.
Maybe find a really good hair salon and ask them to cut and style it in a way that shows your daughter how pretty her hair is. It is beautiful and I imagine there are so many ways she can style it. Maybe the hairdresser can tell her how beautiful it is, your daughter might take more notice

CheezePleeze · 13/10/2022 18:41

That's truly dreadful OP.

I would definitely ask for a refund and go elsewhere.

Also, if they have a website I'd give an honest review.

momtoboys · 13/10/2022 18:41

I'm sorry that your DD is upset. I think you have to take her back to get straight.

katepilar · 13/10/2022 18:41

omg, thats an awful result from a hairdresser. I can do better on my own head with a 2 minute haircut than this!

Albgo · 13/10/2022 18:41

MylittleDD · 13/10/2022 18:06

It looks like they've done it with safety scissors. I've arranged for her to go back tomorrow morning and have it rectified but I'm not sure I even want them to touch it after the mess they've already made of it. I'm considering asking for a refund and then taking her elsewhere.

I would. Ask for your money back.

That is a shocking haircut! Before you go back to complain do check with her father, though! Did she sit still or make it difficult? Also, try to help her get it in perspective. It is just hair! (I may have a suspicious mind, by chance dh tried to do it himself?!)

Even if she wriggled, a good hairdresser wouldn't have left it like that

That’s really rubbish of them.

Fwiw a hairdresser (Rush chain) cut my hair wonky like this. I went back after 10 mins, spoke to the owner who was incredibly apologetic.

I got a refund since I didn’t want them doing any more and went to a very expensive hairdresser who neatened it up. Ended up much shorter than I planned because of the wonk.

For your child, her cut is quite “simple” (of course) so you could ask for the most senior member of staff/owner to straighten it AND refund you (though a refund ONLY if your husband made it clear she just wanted a trim; maybe he wasn’t clear?). or just get a refund and go elsewhere, as you said. Anyone can see it’s a botch job.

BUT She still has lovely hair, you can tell her that from us :-)

mackthepony · 13/10/2022 18:41

But maybe it's not such a good thing that she's already so invested in her hair being her "beauty" at such a young age.

^^

This.

'makes her feel pretty'. Your words op, not hers. She's a child, don't project

StopStartStop · 13/10/2022 18:43

That's awful.
Please reassure your baby that her hair will grow back.
Never go to that hairdresser again. Tell all your friends.

Ashamedteeth · 13/10/2022 18:44

Looks like they didnt tip her head forward, hence the steppy look. Plus the obvious uneveness. She’s got lovely thick hair, apart from the levelling up the length, she’d need to get layers to blend in all the chunky steps at the bottom couple of inches.

WallopBang · 13/10/2022 18:44

Awful cut and you should definitely go back. I'd be pretty annoyed with my OH too for not keeping a closer eye on how short it was being cut.

Hankunamatata · 13/10/2022 18:45

I like the length. Just needs yo be straight.

Mariposista · 13/10/2022 18:45

It's a lovely, practical length for a young child but not at all straight. Repair job needed for sure.

Agree

Is your OH blind? He thought this was fine?

I'd ask for a refund and for them to pay for you have have it put right somewhere else. You couldn't possibly trust them to cut it again. Your DD has beautiful hair and it looks as if they chewed it off while skateboarding past. When they have settled the account give them a thoroughly factual review (assuming they have a Facebook page or some other public presence). A letter to the local paper may also serve to warn others. How did OH even think that was satisfactory? If you want a job done properly...

RagamuffinCat · 13/10/2022 18:46

It is very wonky. She has absolutely beautiful hair though, so thick and shiny.

JudgeJ · 13/10/2022 18:46

It's awful, she would need to adopt an MN head tilt to make it look straight!

IncompleteSenten · 13/10/2022 18:46

Fucking hell. She could have done a better job herself!

jewishmum · 13/10/2022 18:47

My 5 year old has chosen to grow her hair out to be a beautiful princess like Elsa.

It's ok for little girls to have a preference on how they look.

I'd attempt a refund and if not refunded I'd leave a negative review online with the photo if possible.

Potat0soup · 13/10/2022 18:48

None of my children male or female would have given a shit at 3.5 about their hair being cut wonky. They wouldn't even know! They're not checking it in two mirrors! They certainly wouldn't think things like it makes them feel pretty. That's really depressing and this whole post tells a lot about where you are teaching your daughter her value lies.

Yes, it's wonky. Yes your husband is stupid for paying. No, that's not the most depressing thing about this post

I would do exactly that. It’s a poor cut and you can’t guarantee they won’t make even more of a mess of it the next time. Sorry your little girl is upset x

1FootInTheRave · 13/10/2022 18:50

It's appalling.

Did they use a badly executed karate chop?
