To wonder why drag queens have to do those stupid facial expressions

The stupid 'sultry' porno face. Why do they do it?

I don't know but I can't stand them. Modern day equivalent of clowns.

sunlovingcriminal · 07/10/2022 13:33

I really can't understand how taking off "women" can be acceptable. Being a woman is a protected characteristic. Black face isn't acceptable as it is recognised (and just is) hugely offensive. I can't quite understand why taking off women is acceptable either? Especially when, as you say, the expressions are meant to provoke laughter and are complete exaggerations.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 07/10/2022 13:34

Because they think that that makes them more like ‘women’ or at least, more like the sort of women* they would like to be

*hint : not the sort who are bus drivers , engineers or dentists.

deadloud · 07/10/2022 13:35

Absolutely hate it.

The BBC love drag queens for some reason

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 07/10/2022 13:37

Because everything they do is exaggerated and ridiculous because, you know, women, apparently...

Agree they should be banned.

Because that’s what they think a woman does
Along with wear skimpy clothes, have huge fake boobs and are incredibly bitchy to eachother

Tinner01 · 07/10/2022 13:40

As a gay man, I rather enjoy drag in the UK culture, panto/comedy sense. Think Paul O’Grady. I really dislike the modern American sexualised/porno version which is quite misogynistic!

It’s all misogynistic

GoldenSpiral · 07/10/2022 13:44

Blergh, I hate it all. They are clowns.

Elderemo · 07/10/2022 13:44

There are lots of different forms of drag. The kind that's been made popular by rpdr features "fishy" queens which is what you're referring to. Drag is so much more than that though.

Urgh. That descriptor is pure misogyny

OP posts:
VampiresWife · 07/10/2022 13:47

Because their whole point is to denigrate women by exaggerating misogynistic tropes - 'slutty' facial expressions, suggestive names, 'tarty' clothing, and so on.

It's womanface and one day (the sooner the better) it will be consigned to the realms of 'omg how was that ever acceptable'.

How can anyone think Lily Savage wasn't misogynistic?!

Anamechangeisasgoodasarest · 07/10/2022 13:49

Maybe for the same reason that young women in the UK get themselves sprayed orange, have a giant caterpillar stuck above their eyes and have their lips injected to look like a duck?

And all the forms are misogynistic and designed to denigrate and humiliate women

Totally agree with you.

loottie · 07/10/2022 13:53

They do it because it's to mock women as much as they can.
I have no idea why the mainstream have embraced drag.

Neither, I just don't really care what strangers on the Internet think about me?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 07/10/2022 13:54

Your answer is in your first statement, I’m afraid.

A bit of both… Absolutely no point trying to advocate for drag (in all its forms) on here because no one is really interested in the origins and development of it or open to discussion. It’s an echo chamber for those who hate it.

deadloud · 07/10/2022 13:54

@VillanellesCoat educate me then.

OP posts:
loottie · 07/10/2022 13:55

@VillanellesCoat aren't we all allowed to express our opinions? And if it's in public, aren't people allowed to disagree?

mistermagpie · 07/10/2022 13:55

I hate it, for all the reasons everybody else has said. But also, it's not funny, which I assume it's supposed to be. The 'humour' is just really dated and I think people will look back on it and be embarrassed like they are about racist sitcoms from the 70s and such. Frankly it should have died out long ago and I don't know why anyone in their right mind would want to watch it.
