Not to like the Globe Theatre calling me a bitch?

OK, not to my face. But following the non-binary Joan of Arc play they’ve shared a ‘terfs stop being transphobic challenge’ referring to anyone who doesn’t believe in gender identity as a bitch.

It’s a shame. I’ve been to some amazing plays at the Globe. But they’ve made their position on feminists pretty clear, so I won’t be going back.

How come this post is not considered a slur against Trans Rights Activists?
It appears that double standards are held by most of the posters here (I'm not sure what you call yourselves these days? Gender critical?).

You'd be forgiven for thinking that you're saying here that TRAs are violent, murderous rapists? And that gets past MN guidelines?

Strange.

I don't follow any of these discussions as it's not an issue which concerns me, so I believe you if you say some TRAs have been violent and/or threatening. But to suggest that it's all of them? Is that fair?

Gender neutral, gender critical, gender bias, transsexual, transgender, transvestite.

I genuinely do not understand why this seems to be such a contentious issue for a lot of people on MN. Christ, it has even indirectly been a reason why we have ended up with The Tories still in power lol.

If this is all that will ever bother you in your lifetimes, then you really are living charmed lives.

At which point did the PP state that all TRAs are violent?

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 11:52

Off you go @Passmethewhat you go and tell trans Twitter to stop with the death, rape and assault threats, the doxing and the abuse of women, then come back when you’ve sorted them out. I always find it’s better to start with the harder tasks first.

The problem is that I actually don't have strong feelings on either side of the debate. I can see both sides.

Those with the opposing views are the ones who should be trying to find a compromise. Compromise is never easy though and I get that.

LearnerCook · 06/10/2022 11:55

The tweet seems to have gone so I had a look at their feed. All strikes me as woke and pretentious.

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 11:56

So compromise would mean a favourable outcome for both sides. What in your opinion would women gain from making all spaces mixed sex? @Passmethewhat ?

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 11:59

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 11:46

If the issue is the shared facilities, I would suggest that a transwoman (transsexual or transvestite) would be in extreme danger walking into a men's bathroom.

how is this womens problem to solve? That is make on male violence. Women are not human shields for males who want to present as women. Why don’t you pop over to TRA Twitter and tell them to Be kind? I dare you 😀. Why should women compromise on their safety and dignity so some men can have their feelings validated? Surely a compromise would include a win for both sides. What would women get out if allowing all spaces to be mixed sex?

So what would be a safe outcome for both transwomen and for women in terms of the toilets or changing rooms? I realise more than most how vulnerable women are to men but I also do not envy a transwoman trying to live as a transwoman in a time where both women and men fear them?
Incidentally, if it's a transman (so, a woman who has changed to being a man), which toilets do they use? Would you be happy for them to use the Ladies or should they go to the Gents?

IcakethereforeIam · 06/10/2022 12:01

Problem with letting male transpeople into female spaces is if you let in one man you let them all in and they're no longer female spaces, they're mixed sex. It's female toilets, then changing rooms, then support groups, hostels, wards, jails, sports, dormitories.

They're open to any bloke motivated to grow their hair and slap on some lippy, and what type of man would be motivated to do that. The same type who would join the priesthood, to join the scouts, the police force, the teaching profession to rape and abuse women and children.

The majority of these men aren't trans, but they are motivated. Please tell me, how can we tell the difference between these men and 'genuine' trans? Before it's too late. Before women and children are harmed

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:03

Why should women care about if males are safe in male facilities? That again is not women’s problem. We are not human shields. If a transman wishes to use female facilities, of course she should, what with being female. Hi and cannot change sex so no female can ever be a man. Would you put a transman in a male psychiatric ward or prison? Do you think they would be safe there?
If males are not safe in male spaces, why would females be safe in them?

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 12:05

I think that if both sides (and a poster above has stated that numerous invitations have been issued by the GC side but refused) could organise themselves enough to have round table talks with nominated spokespersons, you might achieve more.

Fighting back and forth seems to just be escalating things. When views held are extremely strong, it can seem impossible to try to even bother to negotiate or compromise but I just feel that this is getting out of control and nobody seems to be getting any further on! The divisions seem to be getting worse.

Is it a "strong view" to believe in the immutability of biological sex?

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:07

why? @Passmethewhat what do women gain from compromising their safety, dignity, privacy and comfort? What is in it for women?

I've been on mixed sex psychiatric wards and they have scared the bloody life out of me!

TheHoover · 06/10/2022 12:08

I really can’t bear the ‘if you’re not with us you’re a rape apologist / endangering your own children’ shit that is all over mumsnet.

Opposite end of the spectrum but equally as obnoxious and extreme as the poem.

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:09

So you agree. Women need single sex psychiatric wards? But you want all spaces to be mixed sex? How would that work?

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 12:09

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:07

why? @Passmethewhat what do women gain from compromising their safety, dignity, privacy and comfort? What is in it for women?

Inner peace?

Does there have to be something in it for you?

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:12

Ummm yes. Or what you’re saying is women should just sacrifice themselves to validate the feelings of some males? Really? So what would you expect off the other side? Would they agree to keep all spaces single sex? If women are sacrificing, then surely the other side should too? Or is this a one way compromise?
your flippant remark about inner peace has just shown what you really are. ODFOD

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:09

Mentally ill men mixed in with mentally ill women is a recipe for disaster and I was abhorred to witness it, but it's not comparable to someone nipping to the loo. There were men stripped naked, women giving BJs to men, men punching the air, women threatening women. I mean I realise that it was a psychiatric hospital but it was pure madness! I believe they have changed it now.

If someone has nefarious intent, the ladies toilets is unlikely to be a prime location to carry out such intent.

I think that what I've gotten from a lot of your posts on here is that it's not 'genuine' transpeople who you fear, it's men who might decide to dress up as a woman in order to get into the ladies toilets? Am I correct in that interpretation?

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 12:17

What would make women feel safer?

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:21

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 12:17

What would make women feel safer?

Single sex spaces.

so how do we tell the difference between a “genuine trans person” and one who is claiming, to be trans for nefarious reasons. You seem to have all the answers so I’m sure you’ll tell us

notasglittery · 06/10/2022 12:22

@Passmethewhat I find your calm approach to finding a solution quite refreshing. Please keep posting.

SantaCarlaCalifornia · 06/10/2022 12:24

Just to be clear, you do realise that any old bloke can now call himself a woman, no changes necessary. No hormones, surgery, name changes, or even clothes.

Literally, think of the dodgiest man you know, we all know one don't we? He can now come into any single-sex space (toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons) with you and no one can object or they are accused of being a bigot.

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:25

I find it hilarious. Apparently women are supposed to sacrifice their rights to achieve inner peace. 😂😂😂😂. Where have we heard that before…..

Passmethewhat · 06/10/2022 12:26

I have just googled and it appears that it's not changed nationally. However, the mixed-sex ward I visited was as recently as January 2021 but it is now listed as being a female ward; whether it is that in name or in practicality, I can't confirm.

www.theguardian.com/society/joepublic/2009/jan/23/mental-health-mixed-sex-wards

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14509063/

This is the most recently dated article and it doesn't bode well lowdownnhs.info/news/high-number-of-assaults-still-take-place-on-mixed-sex-mental-health-wards/

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 12:26

So you agree @pass mixed sex spaces are bad for women. So why do you want spaces to be mixed sex?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/10/2022 12:28

@MNHQ
MNHQ have deleted a direct quotation from the Judgement in the Allison Bailey case because the example the Judge gave of how Terf has become offensive just like a certain racial slur is now offensive was too offensive - oh the irony. Yes MNHQ the judge likened Terf to an offensive word because it is an offensive word! I think it is inappropriate that MN has forced me to censor a direct quotation from a court judgement and I would ask MN to look again at their policy on this topic. This is not a random quotation but wording from a published judgement.
I've hidden the offending word but provided a link to the judgement where you can read what the judge said uncensored.
See para 60 on p16
"TERF stands for Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist, and while it
started as a descriptive term, in current usage it is offensive - as in the slide
from “Pakistani” to “!!!!”"
