To want pasta bowls

So boring but why oh why do dinner sets come with cereal bowls and not pasta bowls?? Who tf cares if your cereal bowls match?
Any ideas where I can get a decent set with pasta bowls included and not break the bank?
All my dishes are mismatched and I'm tired of pretending it's on purpose when people come over but i cant afford much at the moment.
Am I the only one who would rather pasta bowls br included?

We have plain white Denby "every day" range including lovely pasta bowls with the wide rim. Bought from a factory outlet so didn't break the bank and they are really robust ! Easy to add to or replace if anything does get broken. They have a sale on the James Martin everyday range on their website at the moment.

FuckingHateRats · 05/10/2022 17:56

We have Le Creuset, and they offer excellent sizes of cereal bowls AND pasta bowls. Couldn't do without them - we use them most evenings for our main meal.

We bought 'allday' range from John Lewis - just the right size to make my spag bol look artistic :)

they come in a smaller size too. Very nice quality too.

Letsdorevenge · 05/10/2022 17:57

Just having a look at dinner sets now and on the Next and Marks websites the bowls are listed as cereal bowls not pudding bowls

The dc have random cereal bowls so j don't mind them not matching but with a dinner set say I was entertaining then I'd want it all to match whereas unless I'm serving a guest cereal alongside their dinner I don't much care if it matches or not

I got pasta bowls from Denby and we use them all the time, not just for pasta. They are really good for anything with a slightly runny sauce!

We also use them as fruit bowls.

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/10/2022 18:00

I have everyday pasta bowls from ASDA and nice dinner service ones from Denby.

Could not do without them.

Mine are Denby - I got them after our IKEA ones scratched liked nobody's business. I know Denby are £££ BUT we got them with Tesco Clubcard points - I think it's 4x the Tesco value. So I just paid a fiver for delivery.

We also got ours from Denby with Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Offers are now 3 x value but still brilliant value!

mam0918 · 05/10/2022 18:00

a bowl is a bowl... I honestly couldnt tell you the 'name' of any of ours but I use them all for pasta/cerial interchangably.

What is the difference between a pasta bowl and a cereal bowl and a pudding bowl? We just have one set of bowls and use them for whatever we want.

Thank you for this. I've been feeling quite inadequate reading this thread! I have a stack of mismatched bowls and just put food in them and then eat it.
I feel like a savage!

obsessedwithblankets · 05/10/2022 18:02

Another vote for Denby, especially when using Tesco vouchers

KingCharlespen · 05/10/2022 18:10

I buy mine from Denby using the Tesco clubcard offer. The nesting bowls are amazing also.

WendyWagon · 05/10/2022 18:14

Sainsbury, IKEA and Marks.
However my posh ones are Spode from a charity shop.
I only use blue and white. It suits my old house.

To those who asked :
Cereal bowls are small and deep
Soup bowls are technically plates with a deep rim (Good for pasta)
Pudding, shallow and small.

I don't mind what I get in someone's house bar a desert spoon for soup!

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 05/10/2022 18:14

Do you shop at Tesco ? I convert my clubcard vouchers for Denby individual pieces. You only have to pay postage and you can use it in the sale too. I've always had the Denby White range.

SeemsSoUnfair · 05/10/2022 18:14

If you have tesco clubcard points and can also wait until the sale then denby do great pasta bowls and coupe plates (with a decent sized lip). Stick with one of their classic ranges such as imperial blue so when they chip (in 20 years!) you can still get replacements. Over the last few years Ive got a full 8 piece set with dinner, side, coupe, pasta, cereal, mugs, serving bowls all for 1/3 of the price when 40% off all with tesco clubcard.

My previous denby lasted over 20 years with daily use but I cant get replacements pieces to replace a few chipped ones (glares at butter fingered ds and dh).

Also love their shallow cast iron Casserole.

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/10/2022 18:15

The dinner set I bought from M&S has bowls that are shallow with a wide brim. We use them for soup and puddings. I would have liked cereal and pasta bowls as part of the same range but only if the size was right, most cereal bowls are too commodious for my liking.

I bought some pasta bowls separately but they have a platinum line on and can't go in the microwave. So I bought a few pasta bowls from Emma Bridgewater but they don't fit in the dishwasher racks comfortably. I feel like I can't win... but really I need to get some without metal trim on, that should do it.

(We also have those little bowls for when we have popcorn or a few sweets, or crisps from a share bag. They get lots of use too as I also heat up beans/single portion veg in the microwave in them.)

Oh god ..sorry went all 'cancel the cheque' there. Obviously far too excited to give you this nugget of info.

JudgeJ · 05/10/2022 18:17

I've just eaten curry from a pasta bowl which shows signs of cracking all round the base, fingers crossed every time I use it. They are white with black words round the edge, they came from Whittards donkeys years ago and I was so annoyed that they didn't still have them last year!

PickAChew · 05/10/2022 18:18

We eat most meals out of pasta bowls. Ours are 25 year old Denby.

Macaroni46 · 05/10/2022 18:18

I bought matching plates, pasta bowls etc from John Lewis about 6 years ago.

I’ve got a Maxim set from M&S. I bought it because the soup plates are the wide shallow kind with broad rims. Excellent for pasta and salad. I use them more than the plates.

Me too!

JudgeJ · 05/10/2022 18:20

The Original Factory Shop often has some Denby lookalikes.

Letsdorevenge · 05/10/2022 18:20

Right I will have to be patient and wait for the sale so I can get the Denby ones with tesco club cards so thank you for thr tip.

The volcanic orange le creuset ones are lovely but too expensive for me
