To want pasta bowls

So boring but why oh why do dinner sets come with cereal bowls and not pasta bowls?? Who tf cares if your cereal bowls match?
Any ideas where I can get a decent set with pasta bowls included and not break the bank?
All my dishes are mismatched and I'm tired of pretending it's on purpose when people come over but i cant afford much at the moment.
Am I the only one who would rather pasta bowls br included?

Supermarket! Or Facebook, we have lovely second hand ones from marketplace.

We use them for curry, chilli, pasta, anything with sauce really. More than our plates!

Errr... what's the difference between a pasta bowl, cereal bowl and a desert bowl.
Are they not just bowls?

Pasta bowls are flatter than cereal bowls, but not as flat as plates. Our dessert bowls are smaller than cereal bowls!

Mochudubh · 05/10/2022 16:34

TK Maxx have some nice ones (IMO) for about £3 each, though I suppose it depends on the store.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 05/10/2022 16:34

Mine are Denby - I got them after our IKEA ones scratched liked nobody's business. I know Denby are £££ BUT we got them with Tesco Clubcard points - I think it's 4x the Tesco value. So I just paid a fiver for delivery.

I eat nearly everything out of a pasta bowl. No idea why. But the moral of the story is that I would not be without mine. Grin

^me too.

I only discovered pasta bowls quite recently but I adore them. I don’t particularly like cereal bowls, never have.

Needmorelego · 05/10/2022 16:36

@Incrediblebuttrue oh. I just have bowls but some are bigger than others. Different patterns. I'm not one for matching.
Cereal, pasta, noodles, crisps, puddings....all just goes in whatever bowl is nearest.
Not at the same time. Obviously 🙂

Brogues · 05/10/2022 16:37

We use our Denby ones as often as we do dinner plates. Anything with pasta, rice, beans etc in pasta bowls. We have a selection bought using Tesco points. Like a PP their noodle bowls are also awesome.

Agree we love our pasta bowls! Good for pasta, curry, stir fry....anything that doesn't need a knife! We just have everything white though so we can get a set of 4 pasta bowls very cheaply to supplement whatever else we get in a full set.

Same.

Had them for absolutely years (at least 20!) - cheap as chips from T J Hughes I think, or maybe Wilko's.

Asda do some cheap ones and I'm sure Ikea would too.

I've got two sets now (MIL bought me some "decent" ones). Weirdly I only use these "nice" ones for pasta, whereas my originals are used for dishes with rice OR pasta.

My new ones might have been more expensive, but I still actually prefer the look of the original cheapo ones!

WireSkills · 05/10/2022 16:46

PS Had totally missed that Denby was on Tesco Clubcard.

I've got a load of vouchers that are about to expire...

Dalaidramailama · 05/10/2022 16:47

Goodness this is a whole new world for me. Here’s me thinking a bowl was just a bowl 😄.

AriettyHomily · 05/10/2022 16:49

Dunelm.

We mostly eat everything out of pasta bowls, less slop from the kids. DH refuses though so the kids and I have bowls, he has a plate and slops

Dalaidramailama · 05/10/2022 16:50

Okay so I’ve googled pasta bowls and I’ve never had one. Probably because I eat pasta dishes in a flan dish like this one.

It’s also great for keeping gravy contained. I would never go back …..

We have the denby cereal bowls and prefer them to pasta bowls as you can fit more in. Like pps, we use them for all kinds of dinners. They’re a bit big for a quick bowl of cereal. Stacks of room in them for grated cheese, gravy, risotto, pasta, stir fry piled up (not all at once)
we also use the rice bowls a lot (not for rice but for small pudding and snacks) and the ramekins. Basically we love bowls in this house.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/10/2022 16:55

@Dalaidramailama love that idea!
cant get much gravy or cheese sauce on a flat plate!

Shortbread49 · 05/10/2022 16:57

Debby pasta bowls are great we got ours reduced at york designer outlet and have had them years they only break if you drop something on top of them

AsAnyFuleKno · 05/10/2022 16:57

Why do they have to match? Find some that contrast nicely with what you have already. Perfectly matching crockery is very 1980s Grin

APlanetFarFarAway · 05/10/2022 16:58

Pasta bowls are fab. We use them for curry and rice and stews/casseroles too.
I got some lovely ones from sainsburys a couple of years ago.

AmuckAmuckAmuck · 05/10/2022 16:58

Another vote for Denby.

The James Martin White set has pasta bowls, I bloody love them. You can also use Clubcard Vouchers with Denby.

Badger1970 · 05/10/2022 16:59

We've got Denby china, in 3 or 4 different patterns and have all sorts of bowls/plates. Their pasta bowls are amazing though, and used far more than the plates.

TK Maxx do loads, and there is an outlet in our local centre - I think I paid around £6 each for the studio blue ones I've got.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 05/10/2022 16:59

As many others have also said, all my crockery is plain white. Everything goes with everything else. But yes, pasta bowls rule in my house too!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/10/2022 17:00

CMOTDibbler · 05/10/2022 16:29

We have Denby and they do loads of different bowls which works for us. The noodle bowl is particularly good for a big soup

So do we. It was all bought separately not as a set.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 05/10/2022 17:04

What I find really difficult to find are small bowls - like for olive stones or to separate curries on your plate or a small amount of fruit or yoghurt - the cereal bowls that came with my denby set are huge

MrsCarson · 05/10/2022 17:06

I have plain white ones from Home bargains, cheap to replace if on is chipped or smashed.

WillPowerLite · 05/10/2022 17:06

Pasta bowls are essential - curries, beans and rice, anything with sauce. We barely use plates.
