To want pasta bowls

So boring but why oh why do dinner sets come with cereal bowls and not pasta bowls?? Who tf cares if your cereal bowls match?
Any ideas where I can get a decent set with pasta bowls included and not break the bank?
All my dishes are mismatched and I'm tired of pretending it's on purpose when people come over but i cant afford much at the moment.
Am I the only one who would rather pasta bowls br included?

Here a set of crockery is usually small plates, dinner plates & deep plates.

Cereal or müsli bowls would be what you buy separately.

I buy Le Creuset pasta bowls when they’re on offer at QVC. They’re £22 each at John Lewis but you can get a set of four for £40 at QVC. Admittedly, they’re expensive but they come with a 10 year guarantee. I have a blind child who is consequently quite clumsy with all our crockery but the Le Creuset dishes seem to survive all her clangs and bangs and knocks and scrapes.

I buy the Volcanic colour and I accept that orange is not to everyone’s taste but we love the shade in this house and all my pans and casserole dishes and bakeware is in Volcanic.

And, yes, we eat our roast dinners from our pasta dishes (the rim of the bowl stops my blind DD’s food escaping!)

All our crockery is mismatched but on purpose

DorritLittle · 05/10/2022 17:32

My pasta bowls are different to my other plates but I like mismatched stuff and have a crockery obsession! The pasta bowls are Italian pottery but were second hand. We also have some basic charity shop ones, they are very useful.

The first two there are soup plates!

Letsdorevenge · 05/10/2022 17:34

Ooh I did not expect this many replies!
I was cooking pasta for dinner so I'll read through them all when I can.
Ok so I stand corrected maybe they are dessert bowls not cereal but I eat neither cereal nor dessert.
I'm so glad so many of you agree that pasta bowls are just the best..we gave a lot of rice and pasta dishes that we wouldn't eat on dinner plates and if we do ever have dessert it's usually like a brownie or a cake that you wouldn't really need a pudding bowl for.
Ok so I do have a lot of white dishes so maybe I'll just go for plain white everything it would make it all a lot easier but I was wanting something fancier but still for everyday

Okay so I’ve googled pasta bowls and I’ve never had one. Probably because I eat pasta dishes in a flan dish like this one.

It’s also great for keeping gravy contained. I would never go back …..

But that would give you enough pasta for about 6 people!

LesserKnownKardashian · 05/10/2022 17:36

M&S - I think the pasta bowls were separate, but they match.

kitcat15 · 05/10/2022 17:36

i have Jamie Oliver white ones….they were cheap from tkmaxx….guessing they were a discontinued range

midsomermurderess · 05/10/2022 17:38

‘what's the difference between a pasta bowl, cereal bowl and a desert bowl.
Are they not just bowls?’ Generally, width and depth. Pasta bowls tend to be wide and quite shallow with a flat base; cereal, and maybe dessert bowls, are deeper because of milk, cream, custard etc.

bruffin · 05/10/2022 17:39

Tesco do matching pasta bowls in all their china ranges.

PinkiOcelot · 05/10/2022 17:40

I bought my dinner set from Asda and bought the matching pasta bowls separately.

Phos · 05/10/2022 17:41

I love my pasta bowls, I have 8 of them but they don't match my other crockery. I don't mind that too much though.

catsonahottinroof · 05/10/2022 17:41

We have Denby piazza pasta bowls and I love them! We just had plain white Ikea plates before, the lightweight ones and I agree pasta bowls don't need to match. Also think pasta bowls are the one crockery where it's best if they are heavy.
I've started getting more Denby to match when it's on offer/with clubcard.

kingtamponthefurred · 05/10/2022 16:22

My pasta bowls came from M&S and I eat practically everything out of them. I have dinner plates but rarely use them.

Same! Everything gets eaten out of a pasta bowl in our house.

Georgiarule · 05/10/2022 17:45

habitat as part of Sainsburys

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/10/2022 17:46

I got some from Next. They weren't in a boxed set but they did match one.

astarsheis · 05/10/2022 17:46

We use pasta bowls for any meal that doesn't require a knife. Pretty much stick to white so that I can add pieces as required...however not all whites are the same. So I try to keep them within one range if possible

skyeisthelimit · 05/10/2022 17:48

I agree that with a dinner service, the bowls are dessert bowls not cereal bowls. We had one dinner set where the bowls were really shallow with a brim, so great for dessert, not so good for cereal. The latest set I have, the bowls are more like cereal bowls again.

I bought a separate set of 4 pasta bowls to match. I have bought other odd pasta bowls as well, usually in pairs , and we use them for most meals to be honest rather than plates as we both like a lot of gravy. It also keeps the portion sizes down as the plates are rather large and very flat.

I buy most of my stuff from Asda, they have a great range, and often do pasta bowls to match 12 piece sets. I tend not to buy sets any more though , I just get a couple of bowls at a time, we like fun stuff like Harry Potter and Disney seeing as its just me and DD and I never entertain.

Lovemusic33 · 05/10/2022 17:49

I have pasta bowls from Asda, I eat most of my meals out of them, stews, pasta, curry etc.., I rarely use cereal bowls.

Longdistance · 05/10/2022 17:49

We have pasta bowls from Denby and Ikea. Both sets bought separately but are the same design as the set. Not sure, I thought they were soup bowls. Who knows?

Letsdorevenge · 05/10/2022 17:50

By the way I know i can biy them individually but that's what was annoying me! I wanted them to just be part if the set as the cereal/pudding bowls just wouldn't get used at our house at all.
I'm just going to have to buy some from Tesco or M&S I know but I'm glad to see it's not just me who loves a pasta bowl

@Letsdorevenge thanks for starting this thread. I've been wanting large flat pasta bowls for years now. I'm going to search Ikea for some since I'll be putting in an order this weekend anyway.

MsPrism · 05/10/2022 17:52

We bought 'allday' range from John Lewis - just the right size to make my spag bol look artistic :)

Flobbertybillop · 05/10/2022 17:53

I got gorgeous Moroccan style pasta bowls from Wilko. They do matching sets, but I just have the bowls because they are so pretty
