AIBU to think this government is now totally dead in the water..?

Wonder what all the Truss handmaidens tying themselves in knots to defend the tax cut will say now..?

Has it been confirmed?

I'm assuming you're saying reversing the tax band increase (45p)?

GoldenElephant · 03/10/2022 07:34

All he needed to do was increase the 20% and 40% tax thresholds (as was leaked for three days and universally liked).

They made a rod for their own back by doing this instead.

SleeplessInEngland · 03/10/2022 07:34

Kawteng confirming it on Twitter now (Truss obviously wants him to take the blame). And it only cost the BoE £65 billion in the meantime. These fucking people.

FuzzyPuffling · 03/10/2022 07:35

KK is on the BBC now. I can only think of swear words to describe the whole shambles.

EbbyEbs · 03/10/2022 07:35

It’s unbelievable - she’s been defending it all week and is now saying she never supported it in the first place

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 03/10/2022 07:35

It’s in the FT.

The Today Programme just stopped an interview mid-way to read out the statement from the Treasury confirming it

The wording is cringeworthy- ‘we get it, and we have listened’

They’ve clearly worked the wording out with several focus groups

They can't possibly last much longer, can they?

The depth of feeling around the country is very strong.

medianewbie · 03/10/2022 07:37

The sheer unnecessary WASTE OF IT 😡

AmIThatMam · 03/10/2022 07:37

They are absolutely shamless

35965a · 03/10/2022 07:38

Utter fucking shambles

Lunar270 · 03/10/2022 07:38

😂😂😂 classic.

As long as they don't repeal the IR35 repeal 🤦

HappyHappyHermit · 03/10/2022 07:38

Yet still certain people will have made millions from it being announced.

lannistunut · 03/10/2022 07:39

I think it is absolutely brilliant that the BoE had to step in with £65 BILLION support as a result of their uncosted budget proposals, and now they are not going to do them anyway - I really hope they are enjoying pissing away taxpayers' money! Angry

And this will not fully solve the problem that the markets are looking at the UK like Hmm, because they have shown they are completly out of control.

Bunnycat101 · 03/10/2022 07:39

The u-turn is too late though: the damage has been done. It’ll be of little comfort to those remortgaging at the moment.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 03/10/2022 07:40

TBH I’d rather have A leader who did U-turns on bad decisions rather than carry on through with them to save face. I mean did people want the u-turn or not? If the answer is yes then what are you moaning for.

The wording is focused on the Tory party IMO. This might help a little with the public but you only get one chance to make a first impression and Truss has really fucked up.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/10/2022 07:41

Holy fuck - the COST of this utter SHAMBLES !!!

DaydreamBelieve · 03/10/2022 07:41

The last sentence in the article...

Although scrapping the 45p rate would only have cost between £2-3bn a year, it was seen by....

only £2-3bn going to the richest 1%. Yup only pennies.

Because the economic damage has already been done - they are hoping to appeal to enough people who do not understand economics - like you @LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet !

Turkey18 · 03/10/2022 07:42

Chancellor on TV now wittering on!

DaydreamBelieve · 03/10/2022 07:42

Wait does that mean we still have the £65b debt from the BoE?!

FuzzyPuffling · 03/10/2022 07:43

I'm too poor to pay any income tax at all. The policies of this government have made my jaw drop to the floor.

Utter, utter bullshit.

ShandaLear · 03/10/2022 07:43

These people are the absolute dregs of the dregs. It’s almost like they’re actively trying to make us poorer.

Shepandawing · 03/10/2022 07:44

People complained bitterly about a policy, the policy is changed after the government listened, People complain bitterly still 🙈
