To make my kids eat their crusts

cbaaaaaa · 29/09/2022 07:30

I am soooo over trying to make my kids eat their crusts! Like what is it!? What is so awful about a crust!!?
I am however going to continue to battle making them eat them each time in the hopes they eventually will.
Is this unreadable? My husband thinks it is and it's not worth the battle, that they'll eventually eat their crusts.
But what if they turn into those adults that don't eat their crusts!

YABVU. Hope this is a joke. Who gives a fuck about crusts? Why do you have so much time and energy to spend on this?

Ifailed · 29/09/2022 07:31

Where did they get the idea in the first place not to eat them?

FourEyesGood · 29/09/2022 07:31

God yes - what if they do turn into adults who don’t eat their crusts. How on earth will you face the neighbours?

Let it go. They might grow into crust-eaters; they might not.

Oysterbabe · 29/09/2022 07:32

I never force my kids to eat stuff, I don't think any good comes of it.

femfemlicious · 29/09/2022 07:32

I dont eat my crusts. Stop bothering yourself

bloodywhitecat · 29/09/2022 07:33

Why does it matter if an adult eats their crusts or not? Eating your crusts is not a battle I would choose to have, I just trim them off for them.

Nameless3 · 29/09/2022 07:35

Forcing children to eat anything is never a good idea.

cbaaaaaa · 29/09/2022 07:36

Wow I actually didn't think I was being unreasonable but maybe I am!
I don't like fussy eaters and I don't like waste. But I guess I should maybe cut them some slack..

AlongCameBetsy · 29/09/2022 07:36

The amount of wasted bread started really bothering me - they were refusing to eat the bread that was near the crust as well. Now I feed them wraps and rolls to avoid the battle.

Magpiesalute · 29/09/2022 07:36

YABU - who cares? Let it go. There are adults everywhere who don’t eat crusts but live happy, fulfilling lives. 😂

Chattycathydoll · 29/09/2022 07:36

I feel the frustration when budgets are tight, there’s food on the plate and they won’t eat it because waah crusts are yucky.

If it’s for any other reason yabu

cbaaaaaa · 29/09/2022 07:37

@AlongCameBetsy that's what bothers me most, constantly putting crusts into the bin!

NumptiesIncorporated · 29/09/2022 07:37

If you don't like the waste, why not cut them off before they get the bread, and whizz them up in a food processor. You can use it for toppings on things like macaroni cheese and gratins. Add to mince for meatballs or meatloaf. Use in pasta dishes (there are ones where breadcrumbs are an ingredient). Mix with sugar to top stewed fruit for a crumble equivalent that is lower in fat.

cbaaaaaa · 29/09/2022 07:37

@Ifailed their cousin 🙄

Brefugee · 29/09/2022 07:38

there need not be any wasted bread. Cut them off prior to serving (or making) the sandwiches, dry them, store them in an airtight container (or freeze) and use for breadcrumbs

notforonesecond · 29/09/2022 07:38

One of mine suddenly decided she doesn’t like crusts this year. At first I was making her eat them and then I realised I have no idea why I was bothering.

I think it was some idea about wasting food. Anyway, I’ve sacked off even thinking about it and just let her crack on now - life is the tiniest bit more pleasant for it.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 29/09/2022 07:38

Do you always eat everything? Do you eat things you don't like? Things people make you eat?

Pick your battles..eating crusts wouldn't be one of mine!

They're yuk anyway 🤣

HavfrueDenizKisi · 29/09/2022 07:39

There's no reason for them to eat their crusts.

They should eat until they are full. Then stop.

By enforcing the crust eating you are telling them to eat regardless of how they're feeling and setting them up for a lifetime of overeating.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/09/2022 07:40

I put crusts out for the birds so they are not wasted. Forcing children to eat what they don't want is never a good idea.

londonrach · 29/09/2022 07:40

Yabu. Why do they need to eat them ...I stopped eating crusts 20 years ago especially pizza crusts...it's liberating...

YellowTreeHouse · 29/09/2022 07:40

YABVU. There’s no good reason they have to eat their crusts and you’re just giving them unhealthy food associations.

sandgrown · 29/09/2022 07:41

They will never have curly hair ha ha !

SalviaOfficinalis · 29/09/2022 07:42

Many adults have lasting memories of being forced to eat things they didn’t like. If anything it makes them less likely to eat the things in adulthood because they’re so repulsed by it.

I thought times had moved on.

Don’t make a big deal of it and they’ll probably just start eating them again eventually

mountainsunsets · 29/09/2022 07:43

Why would you force them to eat crusts if they don't want to?

Just cut them off before serving and use them for breadcrumbs or something.

FindingMeno · 29/09/2022 07:44

sandgrown · 29/09/2022 07:41

They will never have curly hair ha ha !

This is exactly what we were told!!
I don't have curly hair, but crusts are my favourite bit, so I suspect it's a fib 😁

Op, let them leave them. This isn't a big deal.
