To make my kids eat their crusts

I am soooo over trying to make my kids eat their crusts! Like what is it!? What is so awful about a crust!!?
I am however going to continue to battle making them eat them each time in the hopes they eventually will.
Is this unreadable? My husband thinks it is and it's not worth the battle, that they'll eventually eat their crusts.
But what if they turn into those adults that don't eat their crusts!

Crusts are not food. They're handles.

@Littlegoth with some bread the crusts can be a bit 'bitter' (not quite the right word, but have a throng taste) I didn't like that as a child, but I do now. The majority of people don't notice as they eat bread & crust together, but with smaller kids they tend not to. It's also quite a different texture, more 'chewy'. For nursery/school I'd leave the crusts on as it helps to stop the bread drying out, but at home cut them off - less waste of the crusts (other uses) &!they eat more if the sandwich.

@cbaaaaaa don't make it the hill to die on.

Yes, crusts have a horrible burnt, bitter taste. I think you must have a really bland palate to eat something so dry and charred tasting. Bleugh!

Or a sophisticated palate. Many people enjoy stronger, more complex flavours.

if you go to the cheese aisle, it ranges from 1 to 7 in terms of strength - something for everyone.

Surely if you have a bland palate, something burnt and bitter tasting would be the last thing you'd want to eat?

My ds has never liked crusts, I cut them off his sandwiches - even now - thing is, he eats everything, has always done so. If he doesn’t like something (I can think maybe of one or two occasions in his whole 16 years) it’s been absolutely fine. A surprise but I respect it.

if your kids don’t like crusts, that’s perfectly fine.

Pineappleflowers · 02/10/2022 16:54

Lots of people don’t like crusts, it’s the crap bit of the sandwich. Making your children eat something when there’s no good reason to do so is simply bullying.

You need to chill out and back off.

Ps How you treat your children now will be how they treat you when you’re old… Good luck in the care home…
