Husbands cousins have used the baby name we want

Their baby was born a couple of weeks ago. Ours is due next week.

Would you still use the same name ?

We have had our hearts set on it for years. They knew and obviously liked it too. Does it matter ?

Use it. It’s absolutely fine. My BF and her second cousin (same relationship as here) had the exact same first and last name pre marriage. No problem at all.

My wife's cousin had a baby, oohhh... five years ago, maybe? Haven't even met her yet. Had we given one of ours the same name, it would have been completely irrelevant.

I would use it , My cousins live 20mins away, I get on with them, see them once a yr at our Grandmothers only ( A few messages a few times a yr via social media)
If our kids had same names- Wouldnt be an issue tbh.
its a bit shit they used the name they know youve always liked though

Me and my cousin have the same name born a few months apart. Never bothered either of us growing up. I'd say go for it!

When you first told them that you liked the name (for yours) what did they say?

I think it's shit of them to use it, unless they'd said something at the time.

Do the rest of the family know you'd planned to use it?

whether I'd still use it or not depends on if it has a family connection or just a name I liked.

Of course you should use the name you have chosen. Have a different middle name if you want to distinguish between them. How many Mr and Mrs Smiths have thought "I know, why don't we call him John?"...

DH suggested we couldn't use the same baby name as his Cousin's 10 year old. 9 years on, I have yet to exchange Christmas cards with this side of his family.

One cousin has my first name, one has my second name. I've barely met them since we were children. I can remember feeling special that they were named after me. Obviously they weren't but at 6 you'll believe anything 🤣
