Tradesperson inviting people into my home

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:03

Currently got a tradesperson in to do a job. They quoted me a day rate of 8 days work (which I think will take less time than that, but they're the expert...)

Anyway, that's not my AIBU. I checked my security footage this week and noticed a woman popped round to my house when I was out and tradesperson was working alone in my house. I can only see her walk past my front door to the back garden gate, she knocks and then the feed ends. She's seen leaving 4 hours later. The next day, same thing, except 3 hours.

At present the tradesperson gets here for about 8am and has already stopped working by 3pm. So that's 7 hours of work, fair enough, but 4 (and 3) of them an unknown woman here is (it's not his wife, I did a little social media digging and it's not her).

AIBU if I question him about it next week? He still has 4 days left to finish the job next week and I don't l like the fact there's an unknown and univited person in my house when I'm not there, plus, how much work can he really be doing if his "mate" is there for 4 hours.

My DH is trade and I've popped in to see him when he's been working for clients before. I'd usually drop off his lunch and then help out with a basic job like varnishing woodwork or more often than not would tidy up behind him. I'd also sometimes bring paperwork with me and sit and write out invoices while he got on with jobs. This was a convenience thing for me as I finished work a few hours before him and he was often on jobs in the town where I worked. I'd then get a lift home with him rather than catching the bus. I was coming straight from work so wouldn't have been dressed for construction. If I needed to help with something grubby or lifting stuff if chuck on his spare overalls.

Just thought I'd add this to the thread as so many are jumping to conclusions about what's happening. I would ask rather than put cameras up. Or pop in when you know she's likely to be there. If clients came home when I was there I said hello, shook hands and introduced myself and there was never an issue with me being there as it was obvious I was either helping or sorting out paperwork. Just speak to the man!

I agree to just paying for the job minus shagging. I'd also suggest he reviews his invoice again, and subtracts going rate for a cheap hotel room. I have done the calculations for you, and drafted a response to the invoice.

Dear Tradesperson

Thank you for your invoice. I had adjusted it as follows:

So invoice is £250 x 8 days = £2000
Accounts to £31.25 per hour
average of 3 hours per day shagging = 3 x £31.25 = £93.75
Deduct shagging from bill at 8 days shagging
= £2000 - £750 = £1250
Cheap hotel room = £75 per day = £3.12 (based on 24 hours)
3 x £3.21 = £9.37 hotel costs per day for shag (VERY reasonable)
8 days of hotel costs = £75
£1250 - £75 = £1175.00 TOTAL

I would also be inclined to put a note in there saying, I would have also charged you to change bed sheets, but I can see you supplied a pillow and comfy shag-fleece.

Therefore total amount payable is £1175.00

Regards
IvyPlant

ps. I don't think I can do a review for you but perhaps your friend would like to review your skills.

I adore this. DO IT OP!

But the woman is not his wife... And why would he hide her leaving the house?

I appreciate you trying to see the innocence in the situation though!

I wish that was his day rate, might be tempted to let him have a free shag at mine*

*joking obviously, it's still gross.

I would not jump too quickly to assuming this lady is entering the property so they can have sex.

It is plausible she is his worker. He may have a very large power tool which may need a helping hand to steady it while drilling holes, for example. If there are holes to be filled and plastering to do afterwards, he may have to fill some cracks and then may need her to hold the tube while squeezing the grout out. Many jobs need more than one person, if it is electrical wiring and replacements then he is going to have the odd box that will need to be screwed tightly against the wall and he cannot do that alone.

I think too many here are rushing to say he is shagging while on the job when, in fact, it is highly likely she is assisting him with some of the kind of innocent jobs I have listed above.

Yes, I always wear a floaty skirt when I am operating power tools.

@milkyaqua she was being sarcastic. Read it again... it's full of innuendoes! 🤣🤣

Popvan · 18/09/2022 12:14

Jumped back on to see if you'd posted pictures of her coming in and out with the bun and ponytail. Will come back Tuesday.

JacquelineCarlyle · 18/09/2022 12:16

I'd be so cross and upset as it's a real breach of trust (if she isn't helping him with the job) as well as ripping you off by charging for time when he's not actually working.

Definitely deduct at least a day from whatever he charges you.

whatsup00 · 18/09/2022 12:16

The photo is Timothy Olyphant but I cheated. I've never heard of him so I never would've gotten it!

I don't think the pic is identifying unless you know the actual person. It's not like the face is in there. It's funny how you can recognise people from their hands (in other situations) though.

I hope you find out exactly what's going on and also get a reduced rate. It's not on at all. For me it would be the fact I thought one person was coming in to my home, but it's actually another (random) person who I don't know, who isn't contributing to the job and isn't a professional of any kind (presumably). I also hope they are doing it outside in the garden rather than in your home. It's disrespectful. He should use his van or book a hotel if he's that bothered.

MrMrsJones · 18/09/2022 12:17

Once he has given you the bill, I would deduct the time his lady friend has been there.

Say he is welcome to take you to a small claims court, and you can use the CCTV evidence you have which your more than happy to share.

Not blackmail

Snazzysausage · 18/09/2022 12:24

I hope he's not also charging you for his time taken to visit Dunelm's soft furnishings dept. Probably click and collect but still .....

The amount of nylon in that blanket would have her pubic hair resembling Don Kings after a good sesh I would imagine
Sparks flying all over the gaff

Well, well, well, I went into the furthest outbuilding today and currently it's being used to store a few furnishings and furniture until we've finished redecorating the main house...

Some of the cushions I use in my office are stored in there which I used to cover my pc out of view of one of the side windows in the outbuilding... And they (the cushions) had been moved 😱😱😱 the plot thickens. I was going to base the colour scheme of my outside office on those pillows but doubt I can bring to use them at all now.

He's using your house as a shagpad.
I would accidentally put the picture on his fb profile saying "Hi builder, sorry to text you on the weekend but I just noticed this woman coming and going in my house and wondered if she's someone who works for you or has told you she knows me. Just a bit concerned if someone's been talking their way into my house while I'm not there!" Like I'd play the absolute fool, god I have no idea why there'd be a woman in my house, I can't work Facebook, looks like I've messaged you in the wrong place etc.

This.

derxa · 18/09/2022 12:46

Oh dear

z0fl0ra · 18/09/2022 12:46

At least if he has his own pillows and blanket he might not be using your bed….
