Tradesperson inviting people into my home

1000 replies

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:03

Currently got a tradesperson in to do a job. They quoted me a day rate of 8 days work (which I think will take less time than that, but they're the expert...)

Anyway, that's not my AIBU. I checked my security footage this week and noticed a woman popped round to my house when I was out and tradesperson was working alone in my house. I can only see her walk past my front door to the back garden gate, she knocks and then the feed ends. She's seen leaving 4 hours later. The next day, same thing, except 3 hours.

At present the tradesperson gets here for about 8am and has already stopped working by 3pm. So that's 7 hours of work, fair enough, but 4 (and 3) of them an unknown woman here is (it's not his wife, I did a little social media digging and it's not her).

AIBU if I question him about it next week? He still has 4 days left to finish the job next week and I don't l like the fact there's an unknown and univited person in my house when I'm not there, plus, how much work can he really be doing if his "mate" is there for 4 hours.

Can you pop home when and if she arrives again?

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:05

I work about 30 mins away, I could try but it would mean working from home after and he's working on the electrics so... It would make it pretty unfeasible.

Is she working for him? Female doesn't means she's not a trade herself.

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:09

She's not working for him, he wears a uniform, she doesn't. He's a sole trader, works alone and no sub contractors were mentioned and, just no. Very, very unlikely.

Any chance you could put camera inside to see what's happening.

Either way check fucker for allowing anyone in!

Railwaydogs · 17/09/2022 17:10

You do know this is completely unprofessional and unacceptable, don’t you? I wouldn’t have him back in the house.

GrazingSheep · 17/09/2022 17:11

Tell him you have footage
see what he says

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 17/09/2022 17:14

Ask him.

If only to see what kind of shite he comes away with to explain it all. 😉

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:14

Ironically I think he knows I have footage as he installed the security doorbell some months ago 🙄 at one point, he stands in front of the camera as she's leaving (but it's wide angled so still captures her leaving from the garden gate) and empties his shoe before putting it back on again.

The job isn't finished yet, and I'm very tempted to tell him on Tuesday to hand over my key and not finish the job and get someone else in.

Maybe it’s his side bit and he’s having sex with her while you’re out.

It happens.

A friend of mine was meeting with a tradesman and on the evening they would go to the house he was working on as it was empty and he had a set of keys.

finished31 · 17/09/2022 17:17

Can you plant something on the bed, or position the covers in a certain way you would know had been moved.

i should be a spy

IvyPlant · 17/09/2022 17:21

Unfortunately (or not) I doubt anything like that is happening inside the house. He's working on two out buildings in the garden so he has plenty of surface space to choose from so to speak.

The only thing I can think of is positioning the camera in my son's room to point out the window which faces the garden. I will be able to see if they go into an outbuilding but not much else and tbh I wouldn't want to film them having sex if that's what they're doing.

Ugh.

He's using your house as a shagpad.
I would accidentally put the picture on his fb profile saying "Hi builder, sorry to text you on the weekend but I just noticed this woman coming and going in my house and wondered if she's someone who works for you or has told you she knows me. Just a bit concerned if someone's been talking their way into my house while I'm not there!" Like I'd play the absolute fool, god I have no idea why there'd be a woman in my house, I can't work Facebook, looks like I've messaged you in the wrong place etc.

Bookworm777 · 17/09/2022 17:24

Why are you waiting until next week is to confront him???? He’s being a massive CF! I’d be messaging him now and asking why your security camera shows a woman arriving and staying for hours on both days when he should’ve been working! Also, have you paid him anything yet? If not, tell him he’s not getting a penny now and you’ll be getting someone else in.

MRex · 17/09/2022 17:24

As you're sure she isn't a worker, then no I wouldn't like randoms having sex in my bed, so I would sack him now. I suppose there's a slight chance she's a thief scoping the house rather than a shag, but she's a really crap thief if so.

I think the same, they're using your house for meeting up/sex.

100%.

Hiphophippityskip1 · 17/09/2022 17:28

Why is there a camera in you sons room? I hope he is just a baby!

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 17/09/2022 17:29

He's obviously seeing someone on the side and using your place to see her. I wouldn't want him back again on Tuesday but I've no idea what you can do if he's in the middle of a job, so to speak!

carefullycourageous · 17/09/2022 17:31

The obvious answer is often correct - they are knobbing.

I'd sack him, you've no option really. He won't kick up a fuss as won't want you to tell his wife.

namechange29004 · 17/09/2022 17:31

What a cheeky bugger! I would assume its his little bit on the side he's having round for a cheeky shag. I would put the camera in the window facing the garden. Is there a reason he would be going in and out of the house? The thought of a trades person having someone round my house for a shag would make me sick. Please go back home if you see her enter the property whilst youre at work.

Ludo19 · 17/09/2022 17:32

Another vote as him using your property as a shag den

OneFootintheRave · 17/09/2022 17:35

That's crazy though. 3 - 4 hours. Supposing you popped back, quite possible.

dontputitthere · 17/09/2022 17:36

How can you have him back in your house knowing this?

I'm with the shag pad line of thought

But even if not. He's charging you a day rate and half the day is spent entertaining his friend

Grim

BorisJohnsonsHair · 17/09/2022 17:39

I'd be too intrigued to get rid of him straight away 😂

Definitely put a camera facing into the garden (if you have an old phone handy you can use it as a camera via an app called Alfred).
