Arguing with sister in law over DS age

Please do correct me if I’m wrong -

my DS is 6 months born on the 10th

I work out his age by weeks at the moment so 24 weeks = 6 months

but she says he’s not 6 months as it’s not the 10th yet?

am I the only one who calculates age like this? It aligns with his vaccinations and nurses haven’t said I’m wrong.

obviously I understand when he’s older every year on the 10th will be his birthday but from what I understand it’s calculated weekly as babies can change so much and grow so fast

Six months is therefore 26 weeks, not 24 weeks.

Your sister sounds very pedantic even if she is technically correct. I can't imagine telling someone who says their child is six months that they're wrong and their child isn't 6 months old for another week or two - because who cares that much?

Well obviously your SIL is right... he's not 6 months old yet. There aren't exactly 4 weeks in a month (that would make every month 28 days old). You do understand this, surely?

Your ds is 26 weeks. Tomorrow is the start of the 27th week. You’ve miscounted. On that basis, he’s 6 months old.

I go by the date
My son was born on 16th so on the 16th of every month he is a month older in my eyes.
If someone asked me how old he is I would say 'he'll be 6 months on the 16th' I wouldn't say he's 24 weeks old

Here vaccinations are at 2 months. In some doctors surgeries they will not vaccinate the child if they are 8 weeks old, you are made wait until they are 2 months which goes by the date they were born. People have gotten sent home for booking them on the 8 week mark, instead of 2 months. So OP you are wrong.

To answer your question we weren’t I just posted a photo online just saying “6 months” and she messaged DH saying why have I posted that I’m wrong.

You can say 24 weeks, but not 6 months - as a month is not 4 weeks and it's not the 10th yet. Sheesh.

One month and four weeks are not the same thing. There are not four weeks in a month (except February).

You can't say a baby who is 48 weeks old is 12 months old.

I’ve seen this discussed before and it still gives me an unnecessary rage! 4 weeks is NOT 1 month. MONTHLY is the same date every month. So 10th April = 1 month, 10th June 3 months etc
Also I have too much spare time but I can’t work out when your baby was born if on 10th March they would be 26 weeks tomorrow / 6 months in a few days unless that was just a random date example 😂

I don’t know why it bugs me but no it isn’t actually a big deal you can count how you like 🙂

I had this conversation with a highly educated friend. She kept asking why I hadn’t started BLW when my baby was, according to her, 6 months old. I said that she was 24 weeks and had another 2 weeks to go, but she was adamant that 24 weeks is 6 months. It’s bloody not!!
