Arguing with sister in law over DS age

Janedoe95 · 07/09/2022 17:04

Please do correct me if I’m wrong -

my DS is 6 months born on the 10th

I work out his age by weeks at the moment so 24 weeks = 6 months

but she says he’s not 6 months as it’s not the 10th yet?

am I the only one who calculates age like this? It aligns with his vaccinations and nurses haven’t said I’m wrong.

obviously I understand when he’s older every year on the 10th will be his birthday but from what I understand it’s calculated weekly as babies can change so much and grow so fast

I'd probably agree with your SIL, he'll be 6 months on the 10th

mountainsunsets · 07/09/2022 17:18

I agree with everyone else - he'll be six months old on the 10th.

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 07/09/2022 17:16

With your method he will turn 1 after 48 weeks so a month early. 😂

Good point Grin

MajorCarolDanvers · 07/09/2022 17:19
  • Not all months are the same length.
  • 4 weeks does not equal one month.
  • 6 months is half a year if you really want to do that in weeks then it's 26 weeks.

You child is not 6 months until the 10th.

You are incorrect.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 07/09/2022 17:19

I also agree with everyone else - he will be 6 months on the 10th

SnowyPetals · 07/09/2022 17:19

Your SIL is correct, but I can't imagine a situation where this matters or anyone cares. Medical staff will have his date of birth, let them worry about the age calculation if they really have to.

OriginalUsername3 · 07/09/2022 17:20

A month is not 4 weeks. His weeks and months won't really line up. Use whole months from 6 months

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 07/09/2022 17:21

You're wrong, she's right. Like others have said 26 weeks is 6 months not 24 weeks. Surely nobody counts 4 weeks as a month?!

Mardyface · 07/09/2022 17:21

Um.. why does it matter? Is she worried you're you going to start weaning 3 days early?

starbaby858 · 07/09/2022 17:21

wast542 · 07/09/2022 17:09

He isn't 6 months though. He's 6m on the 10th. There is no other way to work it out.

This

DappledThings · 07/09/2022 17:23

What everyone else said about the 10th being when he is 6 months but it doesn't really matter being that precise for anything.

I only counted in weeks till about 3 months.

Hours till 1 day
Days till 2 weeks
Weeks till 3 months
Months till 18 months
That's what I roughly used!

Soontobe60 · 07/09/2022 17:23

its 6 calendar months from 1st January to 30th June which is
31 + 28 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 30 = 181 days = 25 weeks 6 days

it is also 6 calendar months from 1st March to 31st August which is
31 + 30 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 31 = 184 days = 26 weeks 2 days

Half a year is also 6 months which is 365 / 2 = 182.5 days = 26 weeks + 1/2 a day

So there are several different ways of calculating 6 months!

hittheroadjackk · 07/09/2022 17:24

Not every month has 4 weeks in.

I agree with your SIL.

loveireland · 07/09/2022 17:24

A month can be 4 weeks or alternatively a calendar month like January/ February. She's a bit unreasonable to be so pedantic about a few days though and sounds like hard work!!

alotoftutus · 07/09/2022 17:24

I would say if he was born on the 10th then the amount of months he is changes on the 10th. That's how you would get to his first birthday which is the day he turns 12 months.

26 weeks is also 6 months not 24. I'm afraid I'm with you SIL on this one.

ancientgran · 07/09/2022 17:24

It really isn't worth an argument.

A lunar month is 28 days. There are 13 of them in a year. Gonna get awful confusing when he is 13 months old on his first birthday!

Its certainly not worth forty posts all saying the same thing.

User354354 · 07/09/2022 17:26

Why does it matter ?

I cannot stand the counting in weeks business after about 6 weeks. It just sounds odd imo.

Also people who say 'DC is 23 months'. Just say nearly 2 🤦🏻‍♀️

WillPowerLite · 07/09/2022 17:26

You and sil need to find something else to discuss? Music? Sport? Films?

Soontobe60 · 07/09/2022 17:27

To add - a child born on 10th March will be
21 + 30 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 31 + 7 days old today ie 181 days = 25 weeks and 6 days. They will be half a year old tomorrow in terms of number of days ‘ complete weeks, but in monthly terms he won’t be a full 6 months until the 10th.

Ourlady · 07/09/2022 17:39

It’s totally irrelevant how much baby changes or grows. Baby will be 6 months on the 10th. You are wrong.

lickenchugget · 07/09/2022 17:42

6months on the 10th. Hard to believe this is actually a question

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 07/09/2022 17:45

He's almost 6 months 🤷‍♀️

Darbs76 · 07/09/2022 17:47

6 months on 10th
