Arguing with sister in law over DS age

Janedoe95 · 07/09/2022 17:04

Please do correct me if I’m wrong -

my DS is 6 months born on the 10th

I work out his age by weeks at the moment so 24 weeks = 6 months

but she says he’s not 6 months as it’s not the 10th yet?

am I the only one who calculates age like this? It aligns with his vaccinations and nurses haven’t said I’m wrong.

obviously I understand when he’s older every year on the 10th will be his birthday but from what I understand it’s calculated weekly as babies can change so much and grow so fast

OP posts:

He's 6 months on the 10th...

I can't imagine having a conversation this dull.

I know.

rocketfromthecrypt · 07/09/2022 18:26

So are you going to say he's a year old when he's 48 weeks? Six months is six months, so on 10th.

HowcanIhelp123 · 07/09/2022 18:26

You are calculating it wrong, there are not 4 weeks in each month as other posters have pointed out but the 10th is in 3 days time. I couldn't bring myself to care less 😂. Just say hes about 6 months or almost 6 months. If you're that annoyed you're splitting hairs over 3 days you clearly need a life!

Sally872 · 07/09/2022 18:27

At 24 weeks I would round to 5 or 6 months. If the response was "no he isn't 6 months until the 10th" i would say "ok, nearly 6 months"

Technically SIL is right. But weird to correct you/challenge you on it. Unless you were stressing about some 6 month milestone and she was pointing out he is not 6 monthss yet or some other nice reason for the level of detail.

Shinyandnew1 · 07/09/2022 18:29

24 weeks = 6 months

Nope!

LetstalkaboutBruno · 07/09/2022 18:34

I'm 1733 weeks old, not sure what the problem is?

😂

NiceCupOfTea2 · 07/09/2022 18:50

You really don't count in weeks beyond 6 weeks, ok doctors do vaccinations in weeks until 16 weeks but if someone asked you their age you go by months using the date they were born after the first few weeks, otherwise it's meaningless. I was on a mums group and someone was still counting in week beyond 1, it made me laugh to be honest, I wonder if she'll still be dealing in weeks by school 🤣! Oh and FYI 6 months is 26 weeks, 1 year is 52...

JenniferBarkley · 07/09/2022 18:50

Basic numeracy is ALWAYS worth arguing about Grin

User4648367373774 · 07/09/2022 18:51

I do the same as your sister. There is always over 4 weeks in a month - well apart from Feb obviously. I always do it with the date of the month so I'd say 6 months on the tenth.

Another way to look at it, is there's 52 weeks in the year. Meaning your son is 6 months, half a year at 26 weeks!

but honestly I guess it doesn't matter! I know lots of people who do it your way.

The only thing is, you will be celebrating his first birthday early if you go by weeks still then 😅

PopPopPopP · 07/09/2022 18:18

Have I missed something? How can he be 24 weeks today, but 26 weeks in 2 days time? (🤯)

Yep! If he was born on the 10th then he’s not 24 weeks old, he’s almost 26 weeks old or 6 months

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 07/09/2022 18:52

Sorry OP but for goodness sake does it really matter?!!!

ChronicOverthinkr · 07/09/2022 18:53

6 months doesn’t equal 26 weeks, because there are not exactly 4 weeks in every month. Surely you know this?!

ChronicOverthinkr · 07/09/2022 18:54

*24, sorry. Typo.

Thatboymum · 07/09/2022 18:54

It’s always been a major pet peeve of mine when mums say thinks like oh he’s 25 weeks or oh little one is 24 months , I don’t know why it’s just so irritating 🤣

Oysterbabe · 07/09/2022 18:56

Have you told your sister she's right yet?

Floydthebarber · 07/09/2022 18:57

But isn't the 10th only three days away? So it doesn't really matter? Or is it the 10th of October? But for three days? Why is it so important to your sil?

Andromachehadabadday · 07/09/2022 18:59

He isn’t 6 months.

However, if someone rounded up a few days to 6 months, it wouldn’t bother me enough to say something.

Your sister in law is correct. But, it’s not worth arguing over.

Musicaltheatremum · 07/09/2022 19:02

Vaccination schedules are 8, 12 and 16 weeks. Nothing to do with months

Dibbydoos · 07/09/2022 19:02

Why is OP.being unreasonable?

OP, your method is more accurate.

MyAnacondaMight · 07/09/2022 19:04

Are you going to celebrate his 1 year birthday at 48 weeks? No.

iwannabea · 07/09/2022 19:04

i Can’t imagine spending time thinking about this never mind arguing over it but since you insist, YABU

Johnnysgirl · 07/09/2022 19:05

You use calendar months, hence turning a year older every 12 months 😂
24 weeks is not 6 months, but who cares enough to argue their case anyway?!
What could it possibly matter?

Oysterbabe · 07/09/2022 19:05

Dibbydoos · 07/09/2022 19:02

Please explain how it's more accurate to say 24 weeks is 6 months?
